Aibu to stick a pin in my black fingernail?

I've just shut my thumb in a car door. It's not broken, but the whole nail has instantly gone black/blue.

I've run it under cold tap and iced it. The pain from the pressure under the nail is hideous.

Would I be unreasonable to stick a pin in the nail as it's cracked at the base and there's a bit if blood anyway?

Ooh doctor is not an option as it's 40 min drive and I have to get a toddler to bed.

People put the most disgusting things on youtube. Some of them have made me feel physically sick.

Have antibacterial wiped it and put in a loose sterile dressing so I don't infect it (I hope).

I may beg for anti Bs at the docs tomorrow- am scared now!

(btw - I always found cauterising immensely satisfying & quite liked the smell - more like catching your hair on a gas hob than burning flesh!)

The doctor tried to cauterise it today, but I was a gibbering wreck and kept flinching so he stopped and told me to either do it myself again or leave it alone.

By evening it was hideous again, so I caved.

Candle,
Paperclip,
Big swig if wine...

20 mins later I did it!

Stuck my thumb in a bowl of warm salty water and it all came out.

Pain has gone and have a loose gauze tube over it. Feels so much better.

Suspect it will be gruesome as the nail falls off as it's already lifting away at the base.

What a bloody stupid accident to have.

I have to say it was so weird to know burnt paper clip can make a hole through a fingernail like that... Bodies are wonderfully odd things!
