DD is in Year 11. She has been pledging to get her head down this year and work as hard as she can Hmm in order to get the best grades she can in her GCSEs.
Her school is closed for strike action on Tuesday. I think this is an ideal opportunity to put her plan into action and do some extra work.
She and her friends have hatched a plan to go to Thorpe Park for the day. She wants me to do one of the lifts (back).

I'm adamant that she shouldn't go. She's appalled (as only a 15 year old can be) that I "seriously" expect her to work on "her day off." DH (bloody lightweight!) is wavering.

Well? AIBU?

Just to say that she went, and they had a fabulous time. The place was half-empty and they went on all the major rides at least numerous times each, with hardly any queuing.

The M25 wasn't too bad when collecting them, and they were all very grateful and appreciative. DD then cooked dinner and is now doing some extra homework!

Result!

Clam Very very good result all around, I'm glad they had a really good day! She sounds lovely :)

Though, you do realise, she has totally fucked up her one chance of becoming a Dr!

Aww glad she had a good time. Just wanted to say though, YANBU in your initial reaction, it's the equivalent of us being told to work from home and then us buggering off to the pub...

Though I did wangle a morning to work from home once and spent it in bed with my new at the time DP. Had to blag my progress in the afternoon but that was easy.

I don't regret it now Grin

Shit! No free medical advice for us then!

Shame, as my blood pressure rose when I arrived at the pick-up point to see that the electronic message ticker-tape thingy over the entrance was "aPPologising for the diSSaPointment" regarding a certain ride being out of action.

Every doctor I know has been of the "work hard, play hard" philosophy so don't congratulate yourself on avoiding 5 years tuition fees just yet!

No Clam you'll have to slum it with the rest of us on the NHS I'm afraid.

Great bit of spelling there Hmm - have a Wine, call it medicinal Grin
