to have used the mobility scooter?

FishfingersAreOK · 28/09/2013 22:26

Went to a National Trust Property and made use of their mobility scooters to explore the gardens (they lend them out for free). I can get around on crutches - I have broken my foot - but am not infirm or disabled in any other way.

My cast was hidden under a long skirt - so I felt a few hurumphy looks sent my way. I also had a lady hurumph at me when I used the disabled loo (ladies loos had so many doors and were tricky - I am really struggling to use them.

So WIBU to use the "accessible" features with just a broken foot?

I don't even know why you're asking to be honest

Seems perfectly normal to me

Sparklingbrook · 28/09/2013 22:30

YWNBU. I wouldn't give it a second thought. How did you break your foot? Sad

frogspoon · 28/09/2013 22:31

YANBU, crutches are very uncomfortable for long periods of time.

FoxyRoxy · 28/09/2013 22:33

Surely having a broken foot renders you temporarily disabled?

VivaLeThrustBadger · 28/09/2013 22:39

Well I'm disgusted.

CharlieAlphaKiloEcho · 28/09/2013 22:39
Shock
GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 22:39

I would have harumphed at you. Its no wonder the National Trust is so expensive if people are borrowing their scooters willy nilly.

And as for the disabled loo - totally wrong! You say yourself you were wearing a long skirt, surely you could have worn some tena lady and just gone as and when without needing to hog the toilet!

I hope you break your other foot.

FishfingersAreOK · 28/09/2013 22:42

Sparkling was sliding down the banisters? Snowboarding? JimmyChoos on the cat-walk?

Blush Stupid and dull.

And know IANBU...was just trying to help liven up viva's wait in A&E. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childrens_health/1866686-Can-anyone-tell-me-if-we-need-to-go-to-a-e-or-not?msgid=41896245#41896245. But am not exciting enough to have caused enough controversy Grin.

How about if I confess to the fact we parked in the disabled parking space. Even though I do not have a blue badge?

Grin I used nearly all the battery on the scooter too- nearly had to leave it the middle of the lawn. I wasn't to know that doing donuts and going top speed would nearly break the thing was fab fun though

OP posts:
GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 22:47

THE MIDDLE OF THE LAWN???? Will nobody think of the poor grass?!!

SunshineSuperNova · 28/09/2013 22:47

Gladbags that's a shitty thing to say.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/09/2013 22:49

What are you up to tomorrow? Can I recommend that you park in a parent and child space at the supermarket and then borrow one of their scooters and do wheelies in the fruit and veg aisle

FishfingersAreOK · 28/09/2013 22:49

I am crap aren't I. Fuck - always been far to bloody reasonable. I remember my first every AIBU (was about soup if anyone remembers) I asked AIBU, people said yes. I said brilliant, thanks, turned my day around, was reasonable and everyone seemed stunned that I had listened and acted. I now realised this is not that often Grin.

BTW - my mother has a blue badge.....hence the disabled spot parking - cannot even be controversial there.... Though - come on, flame me.....have been dripfeeding

GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 22:50

Dammit I was aiming for controversial rather than shitty.

FishfingersAreOK · 28/09/2013 22:53

Noooooo, not the parent and child spaces....nooooooooo but the DCs are away with DH....I have no DCs with me.....and DH has the automatic so cannot drive anyway til he gets back

OP posts:
jacks365 · 28/09/2013 22:56

Your dh has taken the only car you can drive -LTB

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 28/09/2013 22:57

The DC's are away with DH WHAT? Drip.. drip... drip... what kind of parent are you OP?

GladbagsGold · 28/09/2013 22:57

Maybe you could get a friend to take you to supermarket and put you in a trolley, sort of an extension of kids in trolleys. You could even take a Not Baby on Board sign to hang on the trolley.

FishfingersAreOK · 28/09/2013 23:00

too bloody reasonable not "to" Blush

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/09/2013 23:05

YABU

How many mobility scooters do you think there are?

Disabled people have campaigned long and hard to make things accessible.

I don't think they thought oh, paraplegics and quadriplegics and people who have a cast for a couple of weeks.

You have the choice to visit in a few weeks when your cast is off. Wheelchair users are usually a bit less lucky.

FishfingersAreOK · 28/09/2013 23:05

DCs are camping with DH on an outward bound weekend. They are 5 & 7yo and probably currently still up, mixing with adults and children alike in a tepee bar, with campfires and marshmallows out in the fields, live music, bedtime stories around the fires, carrying around their just-made bows and arrows and paracord bracelets. When they finally go to bed they will be led there by paths lined with tea-tree lights. I was supposed to be going but I decided that with crutches in the equation I couldn't be bothered-- I am not Envy and Sad to be stuck at home. Not at all. Hurumph.
