to have told my work colleague that she isn't being healthy?

My work colleague is going away for a weekend to Bristol for some music event. She made a big thing about how this week she is going to be really healthy in next for week.

She then gets out a massive salad drenched in sauce.

Was I unreasonable to point out that this is actually not very healthy and contains a lot of calories??

OP posts:
QuintessentialShadows · 23/09/2013 21:24

What "sauce" was it.

A Vinaigrette?

BasilBabyEater · 23/09/2013 21:29

Yes YABU.

Putting a lot of calories on something, whether in a sauce or a dressing, is not unhealthy.

Parmarella · 23/09/2013 21:29

CALORIES ARE NOT UNHEALTHY, you nutter OP!

Do women really think that healthy eating equals eating as few calories as possible?

Would a super healthy meal consist of shredded lettuce, sone cucumber, half a tomato and no dressing?

Do all women have disordered eating?! Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggggggghghhhhh

BasilBabyEater · 23/09/2013 21:30

Unless the sauce contains heroin of course.

That would probably be unhealthy.

LoopThePoop · 23/09/2013 21:32

OP, I agree with you.
I know someone who is constantly harping on about her diet .
She then sits in my kitchen, eats half a packet of biscuits, tells me where they're going for dinner and shows me the latest fitness app she's downloaded.
Never actually does the exercise and I have yet to see her actually cut out any food.

Oh, same person constantly points out fat people and tuts but fails to realise she's the fattest person I know.

DebrisSlide · 23/09/2013 21:33

But very moreish, Basil.

BasilBabyEater · 23/09/2013 21:38

Indeed, DebrisSlide. Grin

RosePearlTulip · 23/09/2013 21:40

You were very rude and I would have been upset if you had said that to me. I have struggled with my weight for my whole adult life and there is nothing worse than someone commenting on what I eat.

But to be fair the OP didn't randomly come out with it - as that person was making a bit announcement about being healthy.

Maybe she appreciated it. She might be struggling to lose weight because she is eating the wrong food when she thinks they are actually the right foods.

Being more aware of what you are eating is a real eye opener.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 23/09/2013 22:00

I used to have an annoying colleague who would sit their joylessly chewing on the following:
A small pile of processed crisp bread things
Spread with a smear of diet sugar free jam
Some rice cake crisp things
And an instant choc-lite powdered drink thing
And a diet coke
Plus some grapes.

(I started to take an interest because she sat opposite me and quizzed me daily about my pre-wedding diet and exercise efforts)

It was up to her what she ate, obviously but she was always berating people for their [perfectly normal choices like dressed salads or sushi or cheese sandwiches] choices and saying 'ooh! Naughty!' And yet she looked extremely unhealthy with awful skin. And very miserable in herself.

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 23/09/2013 22:23

You were rude.

Also, you have no idea what she had on her salad, so your comment was incorrect as well as rude. In addition to that, calorie counting does not equal healthy.

garlicbaguette · 24/09/2013 00:52

I need to tell this thread that I had chips & curry sauce this evening, for the first time in generations! Yes, literally, I am that old.

It was all this talk of sauce Grin

They were grand.

HooverFairy · 24/09/2013 01:02

Everything contains bloody calories, the majority of the meal was healthy and just because dressing contains calories doesn't make it unhealthy. I doubt it was as calorie filled as a Big Mac and fries or a filled sandwich or bread roll. YABU and rude, stop being a bitch about your colleague.

MidniteScribbler · 24/09/2013 01:02

Try that with me and you'd end up with the salad so far up your arse you'd need a proctologist to remove it.

Lj8893 · 24/09/2013 01:15

Sauce on a salad?!

Not necessarily unhealthy but sounds pretty gross!

Or do you mean dressing?

aturtlenamedmack · 24/09/2013 01:17

Low calorie doesn't automatically equal healthy. High calorie doesn't automatically equal unhealthy.

WafflyVersatile · 24/09/2013 01:18

high calorie and unhealthy, and, low calorie and healthy are not synonyms.

sugar free gum has no calories but there's nothing particularly healthy about it.

Avocado has high calories for a vegetable but is full of goodness.

Lj8893 · 24/09/2013 01:19

Ok, I've skim read some more of the thread now and it appears I'm not the only one confused over the sauce/dressing!

I'm really interested to know what the Op would deem a healthy lunch!!

BlackAffronted · 24/09/2013 07:36

Id have lectured you back on how little you know about nutrition, how to get your head out of your ass and that an olive oil or mayo based dresssing is good for your salad. So there.

pictish · 24/09/2013 07:39

I had to laugh at "I would have cried" - sorry.
Bit dramatic. Hmm Grin

TimeAgainForWellies · 24/09/2013 07:39

All this has done has made me want a giant salad with eggs and shrimps and stuff. Mmmm.

MrsMelons · 24/09/2013 07:39

Depends if you are trying to eat healthily or eating healthily plus trying to lose weight.

Having low cal stuff is sometimes then unavoidable which means you end up eating unhealthy sweeteners etc. If I am dieting then I would eat salad, fruit and veg plus fresh meat and so on but would also have low cal stuff as I get bored.

I just assumed the OP meant the person was eating healthily to lose weight and was therefore commenting on the cal intake.

MrRected · 24/09/2013 07:43

Que??? So your colleague made a throw away comment about eating healthy food. Whips out a salad drenched in sauce and you are wondering if YABI to comment??

Of course YABU, she might live on Big Mac burgers and fries, so for her, a salad is a healthier option. Noyb!

BlackAffronted · 24/09/2013 07:43

MrsMelons, low calorie isnt the only way tolose weight though. Low carb works (better, in my case) and allows for plenty of olive/coconut oil & mayonnaise :)

SoupDragon · 24/09/2013 07:45

YABU. Given you apparently have no idea what the "sauce" was. It sounds like you were really bitchy.

BMW6 · 24/09/2013 07:52

OP - you have not posted what kind of salad dressing (sauce to you) was on your colleagues salad, so we cannot comment on whether it was healthy or not. If you didn't know what kind of dressing, you can't pass judgement on whether or not it was healthy.

In any event, you were rude to make any comment, and frankly sound rather pompous. I rather wonder if YOU have a problem with food......
