To think AA Gill must be the most joyless journalist on the planet.

He just moans and drones about everything. His restaurant reviews are almost unreadable and he seems to make a point of despising the kind of television programmes that the Hoi Polloi love. Why doesn't he just go and live on top of a tree someplace where he can look down on the rest of us, lip curled with total disdain.

Oh God, Grace Dent and that: 'Get me, looking all kooky in me polka dot dress and mad hair writing about some tapas I blagged in Soho or Queen's Park.'

LeGavrOrf · 25/09/2013 13:03

AA Gill is very good on the hideousness of some period dramas.

He also raved about a documentary series which is one of the best things I have seen in years (welcome to Lagos).

I think he is a lot better when he is not trying to be shocking in his TV and food columns, he has written some good articles about remote areas in the world.

LeGavrOrf · 25/09/2013 13:04

What is it with the mad hair?

If I went out with hair like that women would gather their children to them as I walked by.

squoosh · 25/09/2013 13:05

Every time I think of Grace Dent I'm reminded of her twitter spat with someone who compared her to a horse. She threatened to have him fired. It all got a bit embarrassing.

LeGavrOrf · 25/09/2013 13:05

It's so CONTRIVED.

That Camilla character did the same when she was the ST's 'roving reporter' during the last general election. Hair like Crystal Tips.

moondog · 25/09/2013 13:14

Don't they all use v old picture bylines?
One of my friends works for Telegraph and lovely as he is, he does not look like that anymore (as he freely admits).
Alexandra Schulman. God yes, What a mess. The kind of woman who one imagines has a soggy tissue up her sleeve and hugs her bosom over a bobbly cardy.

LeGavrOrf · 25/09/2013 13:30

I would just love to see Anna Wintour's face when confronted with the shambles that is Alexandra Shulman.

squoosh · 25/09/2013 13:35

I like Alexandra Shulman although agree that she looks decidedly un-Editor in Chief of Vogue-esque.

The sight of her probably curls a hair (just the one) of Anna Wintour's pristine bob.

EstelleGetty · 25/09/2013 13:44

I met Alexandra Shulman once. She was pretty nice, and not scary. She might look a bit bobbly on camera but in real life she looked expensive.

mignonette · 25/09/2013 14:35

Graceless Dent. I have no words.

curlew · 25/09/2013 14:38

She's wonderful!!!!!!!

Beeyump · 25/09/2013 15:00

Jeez, I really like Alexandra Shulman! I like the fact that she doesn't look scarily pristine and perfect. She makes British Vogue feel more accessible to me.

LibraryBook · 25/09/2013 15:05

I used to fancy him. I know. I know.

I was cured the day I saw Five Minutes with AA Gill. Properly cured.

Nancy66 · 25/09/2013 15:09

I saw Alexandra Shulman at LFW a few years ago and she was wearing leggings covered in dog hair.

Beeyump · 25/09/2013 15:09

Good on her!

EstelleGetty · 25/09/2013 15:26

I much prefer Shulman to Wintour. Vogue USA is the most safe and boring of all the Vogues. Paltrow-tastic. And I don't think Carine Roitfeld is her biggest fan either. Carine don't give two shits about nothin.' Grin

MirandaGoshawk · 25/09/2013 15:32

I can't say I've taken to Alexa Chung. The way she always stands with her legs crossed in photos really annoys me. Seems to be saying "I'm kooky, me."

limitedperiodonly · 25/09/2013 15:35

Oh God. Alexa Chung. I loved the reviews of her book Twit

limitedperiodonly · 25/09/2013 15:36

And I recently read that she looks like Noel Fielding in drag, and I thought: 'You're right.'

squoosh · 25/09/2013 15:39

There was a cringetastic interview with Alexa Chung in the Guardian the other day, she had absolutely nothing to say for herself. Hadley Freeman sounds as though she had to work very hard to fulfill her required word count.

nonmifairidere · 25/09/2013 15:49

Wintour - has never changed her hairstyle since uni and she rates Beckham. Wtf?

Beeyump · 25/09/2013 15:57

Hahaha, I just read that Alexa Chung interview - shockingly bad, like swimming through treacle! I like the sound of the Chanel bag though.

limitedperiodonly · 25/09/2013 16:14

Funnily enough, after reading that Chung has gone up in my estimation and Hadley Freeman has remained about the same.

I'm weary of Freeman's attempts to portray herself as a serious thinker.

donttellalfred · 25/09/2013 16:15

I quite like Grace Dent. I imagine she and Caitlin Moran would make good drinking partners.

I'll tell you who I like if we are thinking of an anti-Gill, or maybe an anti-Long, and that's Zoe Williams. She's an excellent writer, she does her research and has made the transition from writing for women's mags to all sorts of things.

squoosh · 25/09/2013 16:17

I love Zoe Williams.
