AIBU?

...to really dislike the things that Shona Sibary writes

Her latest 'effort'
www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2424643/I-know-little-girls-young-school-I-need-bit-time-says-SHONA-SIBARY.html

It is NOT about the fact her 4 year old has started school, if I had had an August baby I would have probably sent them to school too. It's her smug writing - and the fact that in an earlier article she spoke about giving her kids medication when they go on a plane to knock them out.

Really don't like the way she writes about things.

Her children pretty much have their heads screwed on, surprisingly. Her eldest daughter wrote a follow up article to one written about how she Shona hits her children and the daughter wrote how it humiliated her etc. Made me cry that articlee did.
Proves that this woman is not making stuff up which I find all the more tragic. However, she doesn't care as online traffic, even if negative, is worth a lot of money to her. Look at Samantha Brick...

Do you have a link to her daughter's article? I'd be very interested in reading it.

here JCDenton

Hitting a 14 year old is just beyond disgraceful in my opinion. I don't like smacking, but can see that it can have its place with very young children.

Total lack of respect to hit her, she sounds like a reasonably measured girl who could be reasoned with and punished for any bad behaviour in a more appropriate way. I'm pretty sure one day the DD will snap and thump her back!

And when she does, Shona Sibary will write an article in the Daily Mail about living in a household where you are in fear of your abusive child.

OP, did you know that if you go to your local library you will find works which you don't like? My advice:

  1. Don't read them
  2. Don't bother telling us what you don't like - we don't give a shit.

    HTH.

All these women seem to describe themselves as 'freelance writers' though.

You want to be a writer? that's fine, find something interesting to write about then.

If you can only write about the crap way you treat your children and your husband, that's a shit job and it's not going to last very long love.

I don't know anything about her other articles. On its own, I don't have a problem with most of what she said in this one. Not thrilled with the photo, though.

I thought that most of it was made up-as with LJ, SB...

But Cairngorms we don't give a shit that you don't give a shit! I suppose the only thing for it is for everyone to stop writing things in case someone who claims not to be interested accidentally reads it.

OP I agree that (wording this carefully so as to avoid making a personal attack) Sibary's articles make her look like a bitchy cuntbucket.

Don't read the DM, don't read or listen to the deliberately provocative tosh the likes of Jones/Brick/Hopkins/Sibary spew, keep healthy blood-pressure level - as that ruddy meercat says "simples".

She's talking out of her arse.

Saying that people only send their August-borns to reception because they want them out of their hair or because they're just competitive.

I fall into neither category but my August born went because SHE WOULD HAVE MISSED THE WHOLE OF RECEPTION AND HAD TO GO STRAIGHT INTO YEAR ONE if I had kept her home until she was five.

Idiot.

She's a paid troll. Horrible. Disgusting to make that 4yo pose with a sad face and a dummy in her uniform. Bet the school those kids attend is terrified of her, wondering what the hell she'll write next.

Report
TheHammaconda · 20/09/2013 12:52

Do you think she pitches this drivel herself to the DM or do they approach her with the ideas?

Report
squoosh · 20/09/2013 13:01

I'm sure she pitches it herself, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of these 'writers' offering themselves up on a plate. It seems as though no aspect of family life is out of bounds and for every one that gets published she probably offers two that are rejected.

It doesn't even pay that much, probably £1000 per published article.

Report
Saffyz · 20/09/2013 13:04

I find her articles smug and self-righteous. She doesn't seem connected to the real world at all.

Report
GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 20/09/2013 13:28

£1000 an article isn't too bad though. She seems to do one every couple of weeks, plus her rent a gob slots on daytime TV she's making herself a nice income, especially as her articles involve zero research and are pretty badly written. Can't take more than an hour or so to write. Easy money.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 20/09/2013 13:39

Liz Jones said at last year's Blogfest that she wished she'd never started writing that stuff, but now she was stuck with it.

If my mother had plastered me all over the DM (or any other paper) I'd never have spoken to her about anything. Why would you?

Report
squoosh · 20/09/2013 13:41

Yeah it's easy money, but I meant £1000 isn't much considering she's selling her kids privacy.

(not that that should have a price obviously!)

Report
GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 20/09/2013 13:48

Everything has a price and I guess whatever she earns is hers. It's horrible though. I wouldn't write such drivel about my children for £1000 but she obviously thinks she is on to something. The Fail is the most irresponsible newspaper out there, and I think they and Sibary are well suited to each other. She's horrible.

She sits on twitter gloating about her crappy articles too.

Ladyhawke127 · 20/09/2013 13:58

I just felt sick reading that article! Poor little lamb! I just have a little 14 month old, though, and to see that sadness reflected in his eyes as I forced him to face something he wasn't ready for would just about kill me. But I am not renowned for my bravery. What a horrible woman. I havnt read any of her articles before, and will surely avoid in the future.

Report
Merrylegs · 20/09/2013 14:44

I have a theory that her family is actually made up. The kids are hired actors and are paid on a 'humiliation' sliding scale. Shona, as puppet master gets the biggest share obvs.

Report
Pinkpinot · 20/09/2013 15:29

Merrylegs I was going to post that

She's just such an odd character, and it almost seems unbelievable

Sadly it's not made up. She lives near my sister and is a very odd woman.....

Speaking as a freelance journalist who has worked since her kids were very small I have two words for her: CHILD CARE. It's this wonderful invention that enables you to work and have kids at the same time. And bear in mind it probably costs less than private school too.

She makes it all up in my opinion.

Compare:-

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2082932/Letting-BBC-film-giving-birth-wrecked-precious-moment-life.html

And

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1324358/Having-children-ALL-holds-Shonas-marriage-shes-happy.html

Now I'm as forgetful as the next person but I do remember whether or not my husband was in the room for the birth of our kids!
