To put the heating on?

BizzyLizzy70 · 15/09/2013 16:29

DH says I should put socks on first and then decide. Will put on hat and scarf and run up and down stairs. I may even resort to doing the ironing, holding the iron extra close. He reminded me that our neighbours resist til October.

Who cares what the neighbours do, it's cold, turn it on.

misdee · 15/09/2013 16:32

I don't care what my neighbours do. I put it on when WE feel cold.

bigbluebus · 15/09/2013 16:32

DH put ours on about 2 hrs ago. He said he was cold. I told him to stop lazing about in a chair and do some housework. Grin

sarahtigh · 15/09/2013 16:43

the principle guide to heating on/off should be temperature not the date

it can be 5C outside in september, it can be 15C in december

even if money is exceedinly short the guide would still be temperature albeit perhaps a lower temperature than would otherwise be chosen but to forego heating in october or april when it is snowing simply because you only use heating from november to march would be a little silly

it is also silly to be wearing t shirt and shorts with windows open and heating on

poorpaws · 15/09/2013 16:50

Have to admit I try to hold off until October if I can but if its very cold in September put the heating on.

FlapJackFlossie · 15/09/2013 17:04

Our neighbours also freeze until end of October. We've got our on today !!

cozietoesie · 15/09/2013 17:07

I think it would be appropriate to 'test' it OP. Imagine how awful it would be if you got to a frozen October and it had failed during the summer - you wouldn't get an engineer out for days!

(I would suggest a couple of hours run minimum for the test.)

teenagetantrums · 15/09/2013 17:07

its a bit cold here, I have not put it on, just put on a jumper, we are on a prepayment meter and if I put n the heating the credit will run out before I have more money to top it up. But if I could afford it I would have it on a while.

HalooJones · 15/09/2013 17:09

I try not to put ours on till the clocks go back.

tywysogesgymraeg · 15/09/2013 17:10

We've put radiators on in living room and kitchen only, as a compromise. Usually not until October at least, but I think it's particularly cold for the time of year :(

TallyGrenshall · 15/09/2013 17:11

I put mine on last night because I have to get school/work clothes dry and it's been raining all weekend.

I try to leave it as long as possible and sit under a blanket etc but that won't sort my washing out

Bowlersarm · 15/09/2013 17:12

Ours is on. I hate being cold.

NettoSuperstar · 15/09/2013 17:12

I put mine on when I'm cold, couldn't give a shit what the calendar says.

DTisMYdoctor · 15/09/2013 17:13

We had ours on for an hour this morning - it was really cold! If we do put it on early, I tend to turn a few radiators off.

McNewPants2013 · 15/09/2013 17:13

I have mine on low, it quite warm now so it will be going off

BizzyLizzy70 · 15/09/2013 17:13

Aha methinks the imminent arrival of cold-adverse inlaws maybe on DH 's mind! I sense a plan!

Merlotmonster · 15/09/2013 17:13

Im with Netto!! cold..therefore...heat!! he he

StuntGirl · 15/09/2013 17:14

I'd rather not have ours on but we had some washing hanging for five days that hadn't fully dried. The bugger's gone on now.

justmuddlingthroughit · 15/09/2013 17:14

Sod the neighbours and sod the date. If it's cold, put the heating on. But only after you've put on a jumper and some warm socks and are still cold...

It's slightly chilly, nothing that a jumper and thick socks won't sort out.

Topseyt · 15/09/2013 17:23

I'm not cold enough yet to put it on, but have reached the point where the washing is difficult to dry properly without it.

I shall hang out a little while longer, but when I really find myself needing it I shall have no reservations about putting it on. I go by temperature and how I feel, not the date or what month it is (although I do prefer to wait until October).

alistron1 · 15/09/2013 17:23

I've got mine on. It's chilly, rainy and windy. Aside from feeling cold I also hate how damp the house feels if the heating is off on days like these.

MrsMook · 15/09/2013 17:30

We have a themometer in the lounge. If it's under 18oC we'll put it on happily. How we feel is relative to things like humidity and activity level. I don't care about the date or neigbours. If my nose feels cold through breathing cold air, no amount of layers seems to warm it up.

Jan49 · 15/09/2013 17:31

I usually just test the heating in September to make sure it's all OK, but I've been using it a little each day for the past week. I'm wearing 2 jumpers. I hate being cold so I'd rather spend more on heating than do without.
