To put the heating on?

DH says I should put socks on first and then decide. Will put on hat and scarf and run up and down stairs. I may even resort to doing the ironing, holding the iron extra close. He reminded me that our neighbours resist til October.

I've just got my gas fire on. It's toasty.
Might put heating on for bath time. I'm paying so bloody much each month I may as well enjoy it.

PicnicPie · 15/09/2013 17:38

We have put ours on so that house is warm and toasty for the evening. Have on a fleece jumper and socks but I'm still cold. House is lovely and warm now just the way I like it. DH will probably want to switch off soon though....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/09/2013 17:45

Our temp indoors is 19.5C which isn't cold, but it does feel a bit coolish.

It's so dull though that its really tempting to light the log burner. I'm resisting though as we've just had a log delivery and we've also been splitting wood (I Did It -I managed for the first time ever and I didn't chop my foot off) so our wood shed looks lovely and full. I need to admire it for a few days before we start using it up.

If your cold, put it on, but I'm also with the brigade that if your sat with bare feet and short sleeves on, more clothes comes before the heating going on!

SquinkiesRule · 15/09/2013 17:56

Who cares what the neighbors do. I've had the heat on here, on and off over the last week and a half.
Funnily enough I haven't switched it on today.

Meglet · 15/09/2013 18:02

Mine's on. I'm cold and I want to get the laundry dry.

DENMAN03 · 15/09/2013 18:17

Mines on. Ive been in a leaking tent all weekend in wet clothes! I need some warmth!

giraffescantdanceallnight · 15/09/2013 18:19

It is really cold here yanbu

Dawndonnaagain · 15/09/2013 18:19

Mines on. It's bloomin' cold, wet and windy in Suffolk today!

lljkk · 15/09/2013 18:25

I'm fine without but teenager was ranting so on the heating went. Hall temp where thermostat is was only at 13 so maybe teen had a point. 2 of the cats who hate each other are battling with DD over prime spot in front of the fire, too.

claretandamberforever · 15/09/2013 18:27

Buy a little electric 2kw fan heater for about £20 which works out at around 25p per hour to run and just use that to heat the room you are sitting in. DH and the kids don't feel the cold like I do, so no one needs the gas CH on yet. I don't see the point in heating 5 rooms and a staircase if we're just a little chilly sat in the living room x

pianodoodle · 15/09/2013 18:30

I've got ours set not to come on unless the thermostat goes below 16. 16.5 currently and I'm not budging on it :)

sittinginthesun · 15/09/2013 19:03

I normally hold off until October and just pile on layers, but we've realised that DS2's asthma improves amazingly if we keep the house warm, particularly at bedtime.

Heating's been on at bedtime every day this week, or as soon as I hear the coughing starting. Don't feel guilty at all, as I'm putting it on for health reasons:)

Notcontent · 15/09/2013 19:37

I was planning to wait until October but house was cold (18.5) and feeling damp so have given in tonight. Also washing taking ages to dry! Will have to economise on something else.

purple15 · 15/09/2013 19:58

claretandamberforever this is exactly what I think, I am quite lucky we have got loads of rooms, and the living room is at the front of the house, and the coldest room in the house, if I am chilly it seems pointless heating the whole house when I just need this room to feel warm.

We do have a woodburner, but that seems to be red hot when it is on. I was contemplating getting a gas fire. Are the small heaters okay ? My parents did have one of the electric radiators but the electrics in this house are so sensitive it kept tripping all the electrics. should I just get a fan heater ?

valiumredhead · 15/09/2013 21:12

Piano that's what ours is set to most of winter.

claretandamberforever · 15/09/2013 21:56

purple15 - yes the heater throws out loads of heat. we put it on for 2 hours earlier after getting in from footy and then turned it off vos it had got too warm.

LimitedEditionLady · 15/09/2013 22:19

Do people only put it on when it reaches certain months?I did not know this!i just put it on for an hour or so if its cold and switch it off again although i always seem to be ironing or running around like a looney so i dont notice.
