Nom, nom, nommm! Nice with brandy butter sitting on the patio in the mid-Sept sunshine. Happy to eat my way into Christmas!

usualsuspect · 14/09/2013 15:57

I think it's ok to eat mince pies anytime.

GoldenGytha · 14/09/2013 16:07

It's never too early to eat Mince Pies!

I could eat them every day.

ouryve · 14/09/2013 16:13

September is the usual time for these things to appear on the shelves. Back in the 80s, I remember working in an upstairs shop, as my Summer job and watching the council put the Christmas lights up.

daisychain01 · 14/09/2013 17:31

I was agast the other day - I drove past a house in the broad daylight and it was completely covered in blue and white Christmas lights from top to bottom flashing away. How horrible for the neighbours to be confronted by that. I bet there will be a dispute going on with the council due to light pollution!

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2013 17:34

Some people need to do their Xmas shopping bit by bit....adding a little each week to their baskets.

As long as the use by date will still be intact at Xmas, it's sensible to buy early if you need to.

McNewPants2013 · 14/09/2013 17:47

Mmmmm mince pies.

No doubt go through boxes even before Christmas

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 14/09/2013 17:52

There were loads in our sainsbury's yesterday. Mince pies, tins of Roses, stocking chocolates, Christmas cake.

It is bloody ridiculous.

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2013 17:57

Why is it ridiculous?

Surely this is the best option all round.

The people who need to/want to buy a bit every week can do so and those who don't are not being forced to.

Can't see a problem Confused

McNewPants2013 · 14/09/2013 17:59

Agree with worra.

I'm starting Christmas shopping soon, I have a big family so need to start to spread the cost over the next few months.

Darkesteyes · 14/09/2013 18:10

So its ok now but come January there will be loads of fat bashing threads on here like there was last time. Putting xmas food/decorations etc in the shops this early is a marketing tool My DM bought some mince pies at the beginning of October one year and i had to point out the use by date was 2nd November. (english isnt her first language and her eyesight is terrible)

People end up eating mince pies and tins of chocs way before XMas and its just not healthy I refuse to buy anything Xmas food related until two weeks before Christmas.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 14/09/2013 18:13

In Sainsburys, they're available all year round...they justadd stars to the packaging for Xmas....I don't really see the big deal....aside from the fact they taste like shite....

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2013 18:17

Well I'm sure some people do but that's up to them isn't it?

If they want to eat them before Xmas and they've got the money to keep replacing them, it's their right to do so.

However, I don't see why people with less money (who have to plan more) shouldn't be given the option to shop bit by bit, just because some people lack willpower.

I have no idea what 'fat bashing' has to do with this Confused

Darkesteyes · 14/09/2013 18:19

I absolutely HATE mince pies Christmas pudding and traditional Christmas cake...

But i do like chocolate and things like those choc yule logs with the little robin sitting on top. And Christmas is the only time of year i eat Pringles.

cardibach · 14/09/2013 18:19

I like mince pies and would eat them all year round, but I object to 'CHristmas' packaging this early. The problem as I see it, Worra, is that it affects the enjoyment of Christmas of many people to have it spread over so many months. I (and many others) like it to be confined to December then I can really go for it and enjoy it. I really don't get the 'spreading the cost' arguments - why not just put some money by and spend it at the appropriate time (in December, or, if you must, very late November)?

Darkesteyes · 14/09/2013 18:21

Worra i quite agree. Not everyone can afford to leave everything to the last miniute.

I just think its an unhealthy marketing tool

Watching The Men who made us Fat/Thin really opened up my eyes to it.

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2013 18:23

Because cardibach times are getting hard for a lot of people...so if they put the money away, they may well end up spending it on something else.

Buying presents and food bit by bit is the only way some people can manage.

If that spoils other people's enjoyment because they don't want to see these things in the shops, well that's life.

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2013 18:25

I can see where your train of thought is coming from Darkesteyes but as always, people really do have to take control of their own eating habits.

Blaming Asda for stocking tins of chocolate isn't going to cut it...especially considering they sell them (and lots of other crap) all year round.

Darkesteyes · 14/09/2013 18:26

Talking of stars i noticed last year that Sainsburys added a few extra choc stars to their Taste the Difference Belgian Choc cake and then plonked an extra 2 quid on it.

They did the same thing last Halloween by adding a chocolate spider on top.

Mintyy · 14/09/2013 18:29

People will buy them and eat them (and then complain they are sick of mince pies by Christmas). Same with big tins of chocolates. Yep, people really are that silly.

usualsuspect · 14/09/2013 18:29

Christmas is a very lucrative time of year for shops.

Of course they are going to cash in on it as early as they can.

Darkesteyes · 14/09/2013 18:31

Imagine the outcry if someone posted this.

People really do have to take control of their drug habit.

Blaming the drug dealers for selling it isnt going to cut it especially considering they sell drugs all year round.

FlapJackFlossie · 14/09/2013 18:31

Shelves of mince pies, christmas cake, etc. in Asda today. I refuse to even THINK about Christmas until after Halloween, so they won't be getting MY trade !

WorraLiberty · 14/09/2013 18:34

Darkesteyes People really do have to take control of their drug habits

No-one else is going to do it for them. You can't force people to give up drugs and you can't force over eaters to stop over eating.

It's one thing to have a problem but it's quite another to sit back and blame the environment we live in.

Because one things for sure, food and drugs will still be on sale long after we're all dead.

That will never change.

Saving is tempting fate, every time I do something breaks down and then the savings are gone.
