I saw the m&s mince pies and was horrified. Then I thought, "Hey, I always miss out on the good mince pies and end up with crappy tesco

ICantGoOverItICantGoUnderIt · 14/09/2013 18:43

Oops

Tesco ones because I leave my mince pie shopping to the last minute." So I picked them up, then noticed they are best before 29/9/13. Shock They are specifically targeting people with no self control/who want to eat Christmas mince pies in September!

I returned them to the shelf.

nipersvest · 14/09/2013 18:44

there were christmas chocolates on the shelves in my local co-op on august bank holiday weekend!

I don't understand why people start threads like this (not just on this forum).
a) mince pies aren't exclusive to Christmas. They can be eaten all year round.
b) No one has to buy anything just because it's in the shops. I probably won't buy any mince pies at all. I definitely won't buy any Christmas cake or pudding, because no one likes them and we aren't going to eat them just because it's December 25th.
I really don't understand all this 'christmas food' malarkey. Buy it if you want it. Don't buy it if you don't want it.

fatlazymummy I dont know about anyone else, but i generally start a thread simply because I want to. I'm not aware that one has to have any particular reason or motivation other than that.

I never understand the buying things over several months. If you go by what you read on here most people buy, eat and replace at least once - if they didn't the retailers wouldn't bother, would they?

Why not just stick £20 in a savings account each month to cover Christmas food?

fatlazymummy · 14/09/2013 19:28

lisavarna. Of course you can start a thread on whatever you want to. It's just something I've noticed year after year on many different forums and I just wondered why people get bothered about shops selling mince pies in September, or easter eggs in January.

Dawnywoo · 14/09/2013 19:33

Errr... it happens every year.

If you went by everything you read on here, you'd be too scared to leave the house! Grin

If I buy something for Christmas, I put it away until Christmas...just like the majority of people I know in real life.

MN seems to have a strange culture at times, whereby lots of people will pile onto a thread, to try and outdo each other in how much they can eat and how often they need to replace Christmas/Easter food etc.

I take a lot of it with a pinch of salt and then replace the salt I've pinched

LBsBongers · 14/09/2013 21:54

Yay!

FamiliesShareGerms · 14/09/2013 21:54

Bloody M&S has got their bloody Xmas cards out for sale now... That's unreasonable and mince pies are yummy at any time of the year

MrsBW · 14/09/2013 22:10

Shops stock them this early because people buy them this early.

Sales are monitored by the sq. ft.

If products are taking £0/sq. ft. they get replaced with things that are taking >£0/sq. ft.

Christmas products make money in September. So retailers stock them in September.

It's not rocket science...

Hmmm.... Mince pies.

KirjavaTheCat · 14/09/2013 22:13

Mmm mince pies.

MrsBW · 14/09/2013 22:14

Local WH Smith had the advent calendars out 3 weeks ago.
