To wonder if I should report this person to the police?

A school run mum hit my car yesterday while I was dropping my kids off at their classrooms. This morning a witness, thank god, left a note on my car windscreen leaving the other cars registration number and saying she'd seen the driver hit my car while trying to park hers. I've spoken to the witness who says the driver hit my car while pulling into the parking space in front of me, got out of hers to look at the damage to my car (lots of BIG scrapes, she couldn't have missed them!) and hers, got back in her car, drove off and parked further away. The driver left no details on my car.

I'm dealing with the insurance company but I'm wondering if I should report her to the police for failing to stop at an accident and leave her details? She clearly knew she'd caused damage to my car and drove off to park elsewhere, leaving no details.

Have you asked the witness if they would be prepared to make a statement for your insurance? We had a lorry smash the side out of a car of our outside our house. We were out at the time. Witness came forward a day later and he said he would be prepared to make a statement. Gave his name to our ins. co. Lorry driver coughed up.

Not sure about the calling the police thing.

They've said it's up to me YouTheCat and that it won't affect the insurance claim. I'm just not sure what to do. I'm lucky the witness came forward or it would have cost me £175.00 for the excess because she didn't leave her details.

Peachyjustpeachy yes I've got the witnesses contact details and she's happy to help. The driver's car must be damaged, looking at what's been done my mine. bundagerg I've told the insurance company everything.

My friend did this. She knocked a parked car and someone who witnessed it took her reg down and reported it to the police.

She was so embarrassed when the police knocked on her door, and has been given a warning.

In your case, the other person is liable, failed to handle the unfortunate situation in the decent way, and has tried to get out of it by moving their car. Their at fault and you have a witness to this fact.

Yanbu, why should you be left with the hassle with their misjudgement?

I think because I'd never do this to someone else, I'm trying to think of a logical reason why she didn't leave her details (needed to drop the kids off, was late for some reason). I don't know.

I think the logical reason you're looking for is that she didn't realise she'd been spotted and thought she would get away with it. Report!

Maybe she's not insured OP. Which is why she didn't leave any details. This happened to me too on another occasion when an uninsured lad from down the road hit my car and drove off (my cars must have targets painted on them).

A witness saw it happen, we told our ins. company. They advised reporting it to police. Police told us he wasn't insured and therefore he would be prosecuted for driving without insurance but we wouldn't get a penny out of him. It had to come off my ins., but we had to pay the first £150 excess.

Bloody annoying.

My insurance company have checked their system and she's definitely insured so everything should be sorted out in that respect. I just don't know whether to leave it at that or not!
