We fly tomorrow morning, have a trunki as a present, and a two year old. I don't know whether to take it or not as it seems like if they can't propel themselves along and we are taking the pushchair it might just get in the way.

total first world problem I know, and also first post I have started on this forum.

Should I take it on the off chance they will play with it or am I being stupid for taking something we might not use in a confined place.

Or am I being unreasonable for even asking this question when there are so many more important things in the world!

Old new mummy thank you' I can't WAIT! It's been a really long time coming.!

Mrs to, we have bulkhead seats so there should be room in front of us? I can take a different bag for carry on but I would be worried I am ripping kid off by not taking the trunki. It's the gruffalo one as kid loves the gruffalo.

yoni, love the name. we have massive baggage allowance of two bags each plus one for him and we are only taking one each plus changing bag at he moment. I can easily throw everything in that's in his entertainment bag n it right now.

I am still waverig but lovinf the points everyone is making. Thanks so much!!!

I always get bulkhead seats. It isn't that huge a space.

Ours is the Gruffalo too

Not got a trunki but was strongly considering one til saw lots of kids with them on flight to florida from england. They were not easy to move around, the kids were too tired to sit on top, and the parents i spoke to said you couldn't pack much in. We were glad to have gone with a buggy (despite nearly 4 year old who hadnt used it for ages) and a backpack. Top tip is not to give up your buggy until the last possible moment.

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 12/09/2013 23:59

I have just packed it. everyone who is advising against I totally agree with, but I can't not take it if kiddo might have fun with it and also, the fact that someone of you say it might keep kiddo occupied have made me think I would rather bitterly regret taking it than the off chance that someone else might ride past on one having a whale of a time and kiddo wonder where his is.

Thank you so much all for your help and input.

Please PM me afterwards. Grin

Fresh01 · 13/09/2013 00:02

I would skip it as inevitably the child is sleeping or too tired to walk coming off the plane at some stage and the pram often isn't given back till baggage reclaim. So you need to carry two carry ons, change bag, knackered 2 year old and trunki. You say you have space for toys in other bags so I'd be keeping the trunki for next trip when they are older and enjoy it more.

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 13/09/2013 00:09

mrs to how do I do that? So new here

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/09/2013 00:12

Do you see where it says Message Poster next to my name ^ up there? Click that and tell me how awful the Trunki was. Grin Preferably from the airport as you sob. I know I shouldn't laugh but I was close to tears with my Trunki. You have another adult with you so you will be fine.

Have a fab time. If all else fails, seat back cartoons for hours.

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 13/09/2013 00:14

You funny lady. I bet I do get massively pissed off by it. Will let you know how I do when I get back. Keep your eye out for a WIBU to ignore advice and take a fucking trunki on holiday against my better judgment post x

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/09/2013 00:17

I'll keep my eye out. When you are ready, Grasshopper, I will impart my traveling wisdom.

Have fun.

whatareyoueventalkingabout · 13/09/2013 00:29

Any other too tips? X

I rather like them. "What other colour Trunkis can you see?" is an airport game that entertained dd (then aged 2.10) and dh (age 36) for a good 20 minutes.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/09/2013 00:37

Throw yourself on the mercy of your fellow passengers. Go on about how sorry you are before anything happens, they will be sympathetic. Play nice with the attendants, they are your best friends. Know where all the important stuff is. If DC still in diapers, bring pull ups because you won't get a kid your one's size on the plane change table.

Pinkpinot · 13/09/2013 00:57

Our trunki has been a godsend
It's no more difficult than pulling a small suitcase through the airport
And when they're tired, waiting in queues they can just sit on

Just one tip, it is a bit if a pain of child decides they want different things out if it, as you have to open it up completely on the plane and its a bit bulky. So when you get on the plane take everything out that you think you might need
Trunki actually sell an inner cover bag thing, which clips on to the front seat of plane, they might sell them in the airport.

Pinkpinot · 13/09/2013 00:58

Colour wonder colouring pens
Lots of little new games, we always had little animal flash cards
Little figures maybe

whats4teamum · 13/09/2013 07:34

Trunki are brilliant for tripping up other passengers and clonking them on the ankles.

Take the pushchair.

mycatlikestwiglets · 13/09/2013 08:53

Probably too late for you OP but DS (then 2.5) had a fab time hurtling through airports on his trunki this summer. Entertained other passengers too particularly when he got away from us and sped down a couple of ramps. I wouldn't take it plus a pushchair though - for us it was a good way to deal with the need to get through airports faster than toddler walking pace but without taking a pushchair. The fact you can pack it full of toys is a bonus!

StHelenInPerson · 13/09/2013 10:33

I'm a bit late too but want to put my half pen 'ath in.Smile
I got one this year for my 3yr old it was great in the airport for practically running to the other side of Edinburgh airport with her sitting in it.
And if you haven't got the buggy you might be able to convince your dc to sit on it in cues.
Not great when I had
It over my shoulder and bent down to deal with toddler and it thwacked her in the face for everyone to see and left a pretty bruise too.

The bag you can buy for the trunki is really handy though.

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 13/09/2013 12:29

Absolutely love ds's Trunki, he rode on it the whole way, in the airport, shops, the walkway to the plane and down the aisle as well.

When we were 3 hours delayed coming back he rode it up and down a slope with a few other children as well.
I was so glad I took it.

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 13/09/2013 19:06

we took one in may for 2.8yr old but didn't take buggy was handy for filling with toys books n snacks n we pulled him along he loved it and often plays on it now

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 13/09/2013 19:14
