Aibu to think that In The Night Garden is a work of genius?

That's it really.

Result of a night smoking pot and eating special mushrooms perhaps, but some of the best artwork was done under the influence of opium/laudanum back in the day.

In generations to come they will look back on ITNG and hail it as an all time classic of the children's TV genre.

Not on a par with the glory days of Pat's Fun House and Mallet's Wackaday work of course. But nonetheless a work of genius.

It hypnotises children! It's genius!

PoopMaster · 12/09/2013 21:14

I love it and even sing along with the tittifers

2 yo DD laughs hysterically when they all get thrown about in the Pinky-ponk, for that alone it's brilliant

BigW · 12/09/2013 21:15

Utter genius!

I like it so much, the following two facts are true:

I prefer the ninky nonk and get disappointed when the pinky ponk turns up

I love the dance under the gazebo so much, i regularly join in.

Grin
ouryve · 12/09/2013 21:17

Hypnotises them? DS2 charges round the house, being a Ninky nonk! He's non-verbal, but loudly recites all the rhymes with his night garden toys and joins in with the pontipines' squeaking.

Twattybollocks · 12/09/2013 21:25

Yeah the pinky ponk is a bit lame really, ninky nonk much better

GingerBeerAndTinnedPeaches · 12/09/2013 21:25

So there really are differeent episodes. Sorry, I can't get over that. I al going to have to youtube it to prove it to myself and stay out of ITNG trance in order to believe it.

There is genuine excitement in our household when the Wottingers make a rare appearance!!

abuhamzamouse · 12/09/2013 21:33

Tis baby crack. My DS1 & 2 were in hysterics when the pinky ponk bumped into a tree.Genius.

MrsSparkles · 12/09/2013 21:34

Another Ninky nonk fan. There's one episode where everything blows away that used to send DD into hysterics - noooo - iggle piggles blankie - nooooo. I think I love it more than her really.

Meglet · 12/09/2013 21:42

My favourite ITNG episodes...

  1. The one where Iggle Piggle finds a tiddle.
  2. The one with the obbly bobbly (or something) flower up in the tree.
  3. Any Wottinger episode.
ItsOkayItsJustMyBreath · 12/09/2013 21:45

No no no, any episode with the wottingers and pontipines makes me seethe.

Best episode ever is the one where tombliboo ooo drinks all the pinkyponk juice, fact!

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 12/09/2013 21:51

No no, the best episode is when Iggle Piggle's blanket falls onto the Pontipine house and they have to use the trombliphone to call him and get him to come and take it off. Grin

I find the Haa Hoos a bit sinister. Macca Pacca is my absolute favourite, so cute with his cleaning everything compulsion and cuddling his stone in bed.

PollyIndia · 12/09/2013 21:56

Macca pacca's bleeding trumpet drives me potty. I have to confess that when 11 month old DS wakes up at 530 crying like the world has ended, I put it on for him and go back to sleep for an hour. But that ruddy trumpet gets into my dreams.
I love it though. Also get a bit wobbly lip at the beginning bit. And the haa hoos are sinister!

pudseypie · 12/09/2013 22:01

Is not genius but a sinister and twisted programme. .. the harboos pop up anywhere and just smile like something silent and scary monster from a dr who episode, upsy daisy is an x factor reject who just goes round shouting her name whilst bellowing into her microphone, there's a possessed train running amok and makka pakka is borderline obese as he needs a zimmer frame to help him get around. And who knows what is in the pinky ponk juice except that they all have a 'magical' journey?
It's just not right. ....and I get forced to watch it every damn night.....

greentea72 · 12/09/2013 22:01

I once watched whilst recovering from flu and having taken 2 codeine tablets. Felt like I was tripping!!

magicstars · 12/09/2013 22:04

Love macca pacca, especially the during the lovely dancey bit they sometimes do at the end, under the bandstand thing Smile.
Pontipines = dullsville.

olidusUrsus · 12/09/2013 22:08

I love ITNG but I hate, hate, hate Iggle Piggle. My DSS says it looks like it's been skinned and now I can't get over it. I love the Pontipines & the Wottingers more than words can describe.

dizzy77 · 12/09/2013 22:12

My favourite episode is the one with the tiddle too. Ds1 cracks up every time.

I spent too much time looking looked it up on Wikipedia once. Apparently there are 100 episodes so on law of averages its the same one about three times a year. They do all look pretty blinking similar. Ds1 is now 2.3 and starting to loose interest. I would always enjoy the hour of seated parenting from 6-7 but made the mistake of once joining in with the dances so now have to do it every time.

stiffstink · 12/09/2013 22:12

The ninky nonk is a terrifying ride through the seven circles of hell. And Makka Pakka is almost certainly a white dog poo.

AlexReidsLonelyBraincell · 12/09/2013 22:16

I have sometimes idly wondered how poor Macca Pacca wipes his own bum, he's only got tiny little arms. I bet it's very distressing for him not being able to reach, what with him being so fastidious about cleanliness and all.

Somebody on here once likened Iggle Piggle to David Cameron, once you see it, you can't unsee it. Grin

DownyEmerald · 12/09/2013 22:18

I miss it - I think it was one of the greats really. Waybaloo not so much. Third and Bird also genius.

DD is just graduating to CBBC, which is a bit scary for me. I felt safe with Cbeebies!

AcrylicPlexiglass · 12/09/2013 22:20

Really? It is so dull. Except when it's profoundly annoying (yes, I'm looking at you, pontypines & harboos). My daughter was briefly vaguely interested in upsy daisy but was never mesmerised by it and now has that snooty hatred that they get when they realise that they are too old for particular programmes.

AcrylicPlexiglass · 12/09/2013 22:22

I hate Waybuloo too. Fuck off, horrid floaty things. Third and Bird is amazingly good.

greenbananas · 12/09/2013 22:26

Ginger, I think it's the pot and the mushrooms that are making you think this is genius. Seriously, watch it sober. It's not that good.

Sometimes when I have watched In The Night Garden, I have wondered what it would be like to see it on acid. And then I remember why I don't take acid any more!!!!

I think that children young enough to find this programme entertaining are probably to young to be watching much TV. I did watch it a few times with DS 1 when he was two, and he was another one who found it disturbing that poor Iggle Puggle was expected to sleep and dream without his mummy or daddy next to him.

Nooneelseisallowedafergus · 12/09/2013 22:30

You should buy the cd of INTG the best £5 I've ever spent. My 3 and a half year old has loved it for nearly 2 years and now my baby loves it too. They ask for it on all the time, and much better than them watching tv.
