Went to pick dd3 up from after school club today and her coat has gone. It's VERY distinctive and she loves it Sad. She had it lunchtime, says she hung it up and by 5.30 it was gone. Checked the whole area, lost property and outside. I know what's happened - same thing that happend with a sunhat last year - some feckless idiot will have turned up at school pick up when it was raining without a coat, seen that hadn't been taken from the peg and has pinched it. Bet it will mysteriously reappear in a day or two. At least I hope so. I'd better not be there when they return it though - I had to take her home distraught, thankfully it had stopped raining by then. Of course worst case is they've just nicked it. Poor dd3 was so sad. She really loves that coat. Her name is in it btw.

There is a PE kit in my classroom.
It has a brand new t-shirt, brand new rugby top, TWO brand new pairs of rather nice trainers. Not a name anywhere in sight. No-one has come looking for it. It's been there almost a week.
I know it's slightly off-topic but we have this all the time at school.

ProjectGainsborough · 12/09/2013 22:52

I refuse to believe that any of the nice people I talk to outside school are stealing things. Much nicer to believe that laguardia is a random alleycat who has wandered in by accident.

McNewPants2013 · 12/09/2013 23:06

I do tend to forget returning children clothes back to school, one time it was 3 weeks of accidentally forgetting that I remembered.

What pisses me off is that I will eventually remember to take it back it still leaves me short.

It's only the logo stuff that bothers me so now I have both DC name stictch under the logo

imawigglyworm · 12/09/2013 23:27

Ive been told of a mum who 'goes shopping' in the schools lost property box Shock

My DS lost a (named) coat when he was in yr r, it was never found or returned. Surely someone found it or must of taken it home. It drives me bonkers with the amount my boys lose at school that's never to be seen again.

Peachyjustpeachy · 12/09/2013 23:28

I am also guilty of not noticing. I get bags of stuff given to us, which I'm truly thankful for. But all I care about is that the stuff is clean and fits.

If I found a named item, with a name I didn't recognise as one of dd's immediate classmates, I'd assume it was something given to os or bought from the charity shop.

Mimishimi · 13/09/2013 00:40

We have a gorgeous tartan lined duffle coat with a hood in my son's school colours. I think it might actually be allowed as part of their winter uniform although it's officially just a blazer. We sent him with it once and the teacher advised that we don't do it again if we wanted him to keep it. Sad

catsmother · 13/09/2013 09:39

northern - have PM'ed you!

catsmother · 13/09/2013 09:44

Can't believe the minority of parents who shamelessly nick stuff like allmycats experienced. It's a good job we're not talking early Victorian times as people were transported for less!

I can understand similar items like school sweatshirts or PE t-shirts getting mixed up - have had that happen myself when my kids were younger. But you do usually notice it seems to fit differently or looks newer/older than your child's, so simply return it the next day. However, distinctive coats are another thing entirely - it's so bloody mean.

MrsDibble · 13/09/2013 09:56

That's really sad. I hope it turns up. Have you spoken to the teachers about it at all? Can they help?

Pixieonthemoor · 13/09/2013 10:19

OP is the one ProsandCons seen on ebay yours?

My dd's v expensive school coat disappeared halfway through her first term. They all wear identical coats so it is entirely possible that it is at the bottom of a heap of navy coats on someone's coat stand at home which is annoying enough.....or someone has pinched it and cut the names out. Her teacher couldn't give a monkeys.

Some people are SUCH scumbags!! Makes my blood boil.

Beehatch · 13/09/2013 10:37

That one on ebay looks like the one the OP described. Could it be coincidence? Does the Staffs location mean anything NL?

Rooners · 13/09/2013 11:43

No one ask any questions please on the ebay one. I am going to PM NL Wink

alemci · 13/09/2013 11:51

hope your joking La Guardia.

it is so annoying this happening.

My DS had brand new football boots that were pinched in Y3. He was really upset. I did write to school but nothing happened. it isn't nice and I sympathise but seems to be a sign of the times.

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 14/09/2013 09:03

I have been lurking on this hoping for a happy ending, is there any update?

LadyFlumpalot · 14/09/2013 09:23

My pencil case with a lovely fountain pen in went "missing" in year 7. It was one of those plastic ones that are a copy of a packet of Walkers Crisps. It had my name inside in massive marker pen. Midway through year 10 (!) I spotted it lying in the supplies cupboard in a science room. Completely different set of stationery inside it and very battered but with my name still inside.

Must have become the spare pencil case for the science block!

BoneyBackJefferson · 14/09/2013 11:32

Pixieonthemoor
"Her teacher couldn't give a monkeys."

What do you expect the teacher to do?

As I posted up thread the teachers options are very limited.

LadyFlumpalot

I store pencil cases for 1 term. then they get recycled. In your case though it would have been very simple to get it back to you.

TheProsAndConsOfHitchhiking · 15/09/2013 14:04

Any joy with the coat op?

jojoh1979 · 15/09/2013 14:18

Honestly I do not hold any hope in my childrens primary schook. It just seems to get worse every term.

Both my childrens coats have gone missing within the first week of being back this term. My sons is from last spring but my dsughters was brand new. Both have their names inside but that obviously doesnt mean a thing.

Last year my sons whole PE kit wandered off (even the bag) and someone took my daughters school shoes too.

Teachers looked for them and also sent letters and texts out but none have ever been returned.

It just amazes me how people can do this? The kids dont stand a chance either if they see their parents stealing too.

I swear some parents think im rolling in spare cash whichis so not the case. Take the kids to schook before I head off to work and a fellow mummy mentioned maybe because you always look so smart they think you can afford to be stolen from.?

northernlurker · 15/09/2013 18:23

No sign of it yet sorry. Will take a note to put up tomorrow......

TootiesFrootie · 15/09/2013 18:31

Why don't you make a 'WANTED' poster with pictures and the promise of an award. You may get the kids on board with trying to locate it.

lljkk · 15/09/2013 18:39

Bet it's in a lost corner of school field.

breatheslowly · 15/09/2013 19:11

In recent years we have bought DD's winter coat from eBay. You can get used ones in great condition. I am now getting suspicious about their provenance - perhaps they "fell off the back of a toddler".

northernlurker · 15/09/2013 19:29

Checked the field.........

EverythingIsTicketyBoo · 15/09/2013 20:16

Grin arf @ 'fell off the back of a toddler'

northernlurker · 19/09/2013 08:04

Still no sign of the coat but the very lovely catsmother has sent dd a coat her dd had outgrown - very nice! dd is delighted. No just have to hope it doesn't get nicked too......
