It went down so well, daddy was outside with the kiddies, gardening. Noones any the wiser really and I did a cracking roast. I'm certainly more chilled than is normal for this time on a Sunday. What do you think?

How did dinner turn out? I struggle enough without impeding my crap cooking skills with BEVVY. One bottle, fuckaduck I'd be out cold

pointythings · 08/09/2013 20:48

A bottle would leave me very hungover, not going there. A glass, maybe.

Shakey1500 · 08/09/2013 20:52

Personally I couldn't drink a bottle of wine now without being absolutely trollied. Years ago yes, but those days are long gone

dexter73 · 08/09/2013 20:53

I'm a complete lightweight so half a bottle would finish me off, but if it isn't something you do every night then I don't think it is too much of a problem.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 08/09/2013 20:57

I have a glass that holds a bottle of wine.

Sharptic · 08/09/2013 20:58

I could easily drink an 8% bottle as you did and feel ok. I wouldn't usually drink it all over a short space of time tho as I like it to last the evening!

Give me a 12% bottle though and I'd have been stumbling and slurring! Hangover material.

The percentage makes all the difference as well as how long it took to drink.

PicardyThird · 08/09/2013 20:58

Dh and the dc were out this afternoon. I cooked dinner and listened to music and yes, had approx a third of a glass of red even though I hadn't wanted to open a new bottle, because it made it even more relaxing and enjoyable.

A whole bottle is far too much, though. I would be seriously ill if I drank a bottle. I don't think I could manage it, tbh.

SPsTotallyMullerFuckingLicious · 08/09/2013 21:01

Btw I used the glass last night at a friends and finished it. Felt fine.

squoosh · 08/09/2013 21:13

I can easily drink a bottle of wine. Definitely tipsy but never a hangover.

JustinBsMum · 08/09/2013 21:18

Hopefully your DP was sober, otherwise that is too much to drink if you have DCs, if one of them had an accident you wouldn't be able to respond well after a bottle of wine. Not worth the risk imo.

OneUp · 08/09/2013 21:22

I don't drink but a bottle of wine to one person seems like an awful lot to me!

VileWoman · 08/09/2013 21:28

A glass of wine while cooking dinner is perfectly acceptable but a whole bottle on your own? Too much.

festered · 08/09/2013 21:29

Not at all if It's not a regular thing! Got to have our little pleasures in life and if you're relaxed and it doesn't affect you in a way that is adverse to anybody elses' dinner/evening then no YANBU.
If it was every night I'd be concerned, though!

iwanttobelola · 08/09/2013 21:29

A bottle of wine if it doesn't render you a slurry mess is fine it is up to you ..people use alcohol for different reasons , for me it helps me relax and I actually enjoy the taste , its my only vice I do not consume vast amounts of chocolate, overeat, shop excessively, smoke or take prescribed chemical mood lifters and I do not hide it or pretend that I don't drink .
Although saying that I am a crap cook and couldn't produce a sunday dinner whilst drinking .. so well done you !

CharityFunDay · 08/09/2013 21:42

One bottle of wine over the course of three hours?

Perfectly reasonable, although I wouldn't do it on an empty stomach.

thebody · 08/09/2013 22:11

do that easily, never have a hang over.

whether that's unreasonable or not is debatable.

Beamur · 08/09/2013 22:17

I reckon my DP could drink a bottle of wine while cooking and still bang out a great meal. I'd probably have burnt it or fallen asleep on the table!
I had 4 glasses of wine yesterday in the evening, fell asleep on DD's bed while having a competition with her (who could fall asleep the fastest - but I hadn't planned on winning). I woke at 1.30am a bit confused with my contact lenses feeling a bit crispy and DP a bit shirty with me - apparently he'd tried to wake me twice...

TeamSouthfields · 08/09/2013 22:33

A bottle of wine isnt anything at all ...

My partner drinks a bottle of wine every night, normally with a couple of ciders too

Snorbs · 08/09/2013 22:35

TeamSouthfields, your partner is an alcoholic.

thenightsky · 08/09/2013 22:40

A bottle is only 4 glasses.

Over 3 hours sounds ok to me, especially if you are nibbling/tasting food as you go.

Beamur · 08/09/2013 22:41

A bottle of wine a night (or more) every night, is excessive and harmful in the long term.

CiderwithBuda · 08/09/2013 22:42

Mmm. I drink a lot of wine. Too much. But a whole bottle just while cooking would be too much even for me. I think I have done it once but it was not a good idea. How long were you cooking for?

CheckpointCharlie · 08/09/2013 22:49

Well am not one to shy away from wine but wouldn't quite be able to manage a bottle on my own when cooking. Nothing I cook takes very long to cook and in the day I would be hammered.

In the evening though DH and I can drink a bottle each. Not on a school night mind, only at the weekend.

samandi · 09/09/2013 08:23

Sounds quite a lot to me, but more worrying that you need to keep it secret from your partner - what did you do, hide the empty bottle and wash the glass up quickly before dinner?

ZillionChocolate · 09/09/2013 08:37

I'd do it with a little bottle of wine (185ml?) but not a full sized one (750ml).

Would drink that much on a night out though but doing it at lunch time without company while children are around seems a bit wrong.
