To drink a bottle of wine while cooking tea?

It went down so well, daddy was outside with the kiddies, gardening. Noones any the wiser really and I did a cracking roast. I'm certainly more chilled than is normal for this time on a Sunday. What do you think?

In fact I'd probably fall asleep in my dinner or burn the kitchen down.

OHforDUCKScake · 08/09/2013 19:56

YANBU

It takes 3 hours to cook a roast, it wasnt like you downed it in 20 minutes.

One mans bottle is another mans shot on MN.

ha bet op is asleep in her dinner Grin

why hide it though, does your dh frown at you drinking?

candycoatedwaterdrops · 08/09/2013 20:06

I think a bottle is a lot of wine to drink alone.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 08/09/2013 20:10

Ask the consumer(s) Grin

fber · 08/09/2013 20:18

No I'm still here..on the cups of tea now. dh well aware that I was drinking the wine but wouldn't think to notice how much. Hope I don't have too much of a hangover tomorrow morning.

A bottle really isn't that much. It's around 4 glasses, depending on the size of the glass. It's about the same as 3 bottles of bud I think we worked it out as. Then the alcohol content varies. Not all are 12%. One of my favs is 5%, and of course you can get less content than this.

3 hours isn't much either. Think how many times you have been to a resturant, and had several glasses of wine with your meal. Only difference is someone else is opening the bottles, and no-one is really keeping count until the bill comes in and you see xx amount of bottles.

ZingWantsCake · 08/09/2013 20:23

a bottle of wine while cooking dinner is too much.

YABU

of course I could say it's not nearly enough and wink, but this is casual drinking not a special occasion so I prefer to give you an honest answer.

why are you asking?

fber · 08/09/2013 20:24

I've just worked it out as 8 units :)

I think one person drinking a bottle of wine is a lot. What were you cooking that took that long? Next time get your husband to help with chopping etc.

duckyfuzz · 08/09/2013 20:27

I really enjoy my time cooking a Sunday roast, I love a couple of glasses of wine whilst I do it, but I would consider a whole bottle too much before the meal

teenagetantrums · 08/09/2013 20:28

YANBU I a drink a bottle of wine no problem and be fine the next day, I had 3 bottles of 5% cider while I was making dinner so probaley about the same as a bottle of wine. Just don't do it every day.

Rhythmisadancer · 08/09/2013 20:30

Boozy lunch/tea, early night. A perfect Sunday, and right as rain Monday morning - but remember the early night!!

duckyfuzz · 08/09/2013 20:31

I'd happily have a bottle or two with the meal and drift on through the rest of the day though!

BackforGood · 08/09/2013 20:34

I don't know about unreasonable, but I would be seriously worried about anyone who thinks it's OK to drink a whole bottle of wine by themselves, whilst cooking a meal, and reckon it doesn't have an effect on them. That can not be a good way to be leading your life.

LEMisdisappointed · 08/09/2013 20:35

Sounds bloody lovely :) I only had a glass of wine while i was cooking dinner tonight because there was only a glass left in the bottle, also because we only had pasta - I would say however YABU if you spent three hours actually cooking the roast and should have been relaxing out on the patio supervising your DH with the kids sitting in the sun :) Enjoy

I can easily polish off a bottle of wine in one sitting, at home alone i'd not even feel tipsy - if i was on a night out and had a whole bottles worth, i'd be shit faced, im not sure why that is

LEMisdisappointed · 08/09/2013 20:36

oh backforgood - are your judgey pants chaffing this evening? not a good way to be leading your life? really??? I am assuming the OP doesn't do this every day! It sounds like a lovely relaxing Sunday

BackforGood · 08/09/2013 20:39

OP asked for opinions......

McNewPants2013 · 08/09/2013 20:40

MN puzzles me sometimes.

How many times I have seen relax and have a Wine when a poster is upset or angry but when a poster asks if it was ok during a relax Sunday afternoon there must be a problem.

Shallishanti · 08/09/2013 20:40

a bottle of wine has 10 units, apparently and women are recommended to have no more than 2 or 3 units a day. So, not really a question of BU, but what are you doing to your health. As many have said, being able to tolerate that much alcohol and just feel relaxed suggests a problem.

WestmorlandSausage · 08/09/2013 20:42

I can drink a bottle of wine whilst cooking no problem, particularly something like a roast where you make it over a few hours. usually whatever i'm cooking gets a slosh of it as well.

MrsDoomsPatterson · 08/09/2013 20:42

One glass is ok if you need the edge off a shit day. A bottle is over egging the pudding.

stealthsquiggle · 08/09/2013 20:42

Given that you have bow switched to tea, I would say YANBU. Those of us without judgey pants wedged up our backsides can probably acknowledge that we could easily drink that on a night out.

I wouldn't do it whilst cooking dinner, personally, but that's because I would feel crappy and would still have the rest of the evening to deal with. If I drink anything like that much, I don't want to have to do anything more taxing than falling into bed. I also wouldn't do it on a Sunday, but I guess it depends how shitty your Monday mornings are.

stealthsquiggle · 08/09/2013 20:43

bow? Confused
