Bottoms from the bottom and tops form the top.

Shock

Shpuld I educate the poor soul?

I always put waistbands at the bottom, so that they can be blown about a bit, works for me! (but I would not dare tell someone else how to manage their wash line. That just smacks of line fascism to me!)

shrinkingnora · 06/09/2013 10:44

Dh never lines up the seams of t shirts. once he hung one out that was so twisted there was a sleeve at the front and a sleeve at the back. Horrible. And he never gives stuff a brisk snap to get the creases out before he pegs it out. It looks like crepe paper.

alterego2 · 06/09/2013 11:01

Can I just point out that shirts/dresses/t shirts should actually be put on hangers and the hangers put on the line? Minimises ironing.

And as hangers only need one peg to keep them in place there is no matching peg problem

KissMeHardy · 06/09/2013 11:22

No No No - bottoms from the bottom, and tops from the bottom. And socks by the ankles. Silly people Grin

shrinkingnora · 06/09/2013 11:28

Socks by the ankles means you can't pair them up as you take them in though. tis very efficient. And bottoms from bottom means the pockets and waistband take ages to dry. bottoms from the back at the top, not two layers together, mind.

stealthsquiggle · 06/09/2013 11:30

Would any of you care to run a training course? I am a lightweight compared to most (not bothered about matching pegs Blush) but I need my DC trained so that I don't have to re hang the washing after they have finished. DC1 throws things randomly at the line and doesn't see what is wrong with what he has done. DC2 I have better hopes for as she knows what it should look like but can't reach the line Sad . I refuse to let it default to her, though. I must train DS for the greater good of womankind, but he never listens to me, so I need to outsource the training to one of you lot...

AnyoneButLulu · 06/09/2013 13:27

Jeans from the hems, definitely, otherwise the waistbands never sodding dry.

And I judge all of you who have coloured pegs. I operate a minimalist washing line on which only Muji transparent pegs are allowed.

DeWe · 06/09/2013 14:09

You could hang out the washing like my df.

He likes to economise. On everything. So he economises on how much washing line he uses like he has to pay per inch. So the stuff is all crammed together and doesn't dry.
Dm is trying to housetrain him, and he is getting better slowly

SHarri13 · 06/09/2013 14:16

It depends on the material, surely? There's no definitive rule IMO, there are too many variables.

SHarri13 · 06/09/2013 14:17

And as for matching pegs, that's just boring!

SueDoku · 06/09/2013 15:46

Most things need turning over half-way through, so that every bit gets blown about (but they should definitely start with a good 'snap' shake and be hung bottoms from top and tops from bottom to begin with)

When you unpeg (and in heaven's name, why would anyone take all the pegs in every time when they can be on the line ready and waiting for the next load..???) they should be 'snapped' again so that they are soft (especially if you are like my DD and myself and are allergic to fabric conditioner) before folding.

Aforesaid DD now thinks that - just because she has her own house, DP and DD - she can ignore my years of teaching and peg the first bit that comes to hand onto the line - where did I go wrong....?? Grin

shrinkingnora · 06/09/2013 16:16

You take the pegs in because the springs go rusty and the wooden ones go mouldy and some of the plastic ones shatter if they are in direct sun for months at a time.

reelingintheyears · 06/09/2013 17:41

Tops from the bottom and bottoms from the bottom too.

HTH

Honestly Chaos

Whereisegg · 06/09/2013 19:02

All my pegs match.

[smug and not at all controlling emoticon]

Nanny0gg · 06/09/2013 19:44

Oh my god. I got a curtsy from NannyOgg. I probably owe her a really big favour now. She'll be storing that one up for future use.
Grin

I even leave an empty line between each washing-filled one as it helps air circulate... Blush

KirjavaTheCat · 06/09/2013 19:48

Can I just point out that shirts/dresses/t shirts should actually be put on hangers and the hangers put on the line?

Shock

My mind is blown. I am doing this from now on. I hate putting things away onto hangers.

nkf · 06/09/2013 19:51

I had no idea. Still don't to be honest.

stealthsquiggle · 06/09/2013 20:09

I am crossing SueDoku off my list of potential tutors - your teaching clearly doesn't "stick"

BergholtStuttleyJohnson · 06/09/2013 21:33

I hang trousers from the bottom (the waistband and arse pockets dry better if they can billow a bit in the wind) and tops from the middle and I don't use matching pegs.

dementedma · 06/09/2013 21:46

This friend has me actually sitting slack'jawed in amazement. People actually worry about matching pegs and how to hang their washing??. Don't you have lives?
I wash stuff, it goes on the line in any order, with any pegs, it dries, I bring it in. Job done. Or, if I don't bring it in, it stays on the line until it stops raining.
Why would you spend more than the bare minimum of time on this shit?

dementedma · 06/09/2013 21:46

Friend? I mean thread.

Sparklymommy · 06/09/2013 22:01

Also babies bibs- do them up over the line and no need for pegs.

I'm a bottoms from the bottom, tops from the top girl. Socks hung in pairs by the toe.

Matching pegs.

Knickers from one seam, sideways. 1 peg per pair.

Pegs ALWAYS brought in. Can't stand pegs left on the line.

omg become my mum!

DaleyBump · 06/09/2013 22:03

WTAF is NDN?!

Nanny0gg · 06/09/2013 22:21

Next Door Neighbour.

And I don't spend any time 'worrying' about this shit.

I just do it all automatically. Doesn't take me any longer than anyone else.

DaleyBump · 06/09/2013 22:30

Thank you thank you thank you. I was going slightly insane.
