Twice a week I go food shopping & have my breakfast in the cafe (about 9.30) dc has already had a bf & a spoon of porridge. So when I order my breakfast, I always ask for the free stage one baby food. Manager (new) saw me put it in my changing bag & told me the food is to be eaten there & then. I gave the food back but politely explained that dc would have it for lunch & I would freeze the rest. No-where is the store does it say you cant take it home :-(

It's only the same as putting a half a sandwich in your bag for later if you can't eat the whole thing in the cafe. A sandwich you have paid for that is. I think the boss is being pedantic.

Retroformica · 04/09/2013 14:40

The baby food is just a freebee to get you in the cafe.

Wembley you're on one at the moment Grin

So, does your baby have to be with you to claim the meal?

Or could you just state 'I have a baby with a minder atm, can I have my free meal now please, I'll give it later.'

lol fem - its a fruit carton :-) & retro, this is the point - its a sweetner to get parents in who will meet friends ect who will buy snacks/meals/drinks & do a bit of shopping in store.

i cant see how, if asdas offer this freebie why it shouldnt be taken?!

Of course yanbu.

If you want you can take a whole sandwich that you purchase, or drink (yes, even if you put it in your own bottle/thermos).
Why not the baby food?

It would be different if you grabbed a handful of pots to take home.
If they give you one free because you have your baby with you, it's up to you if you give it to him there or elsewhere.

You should go back and demand it from the manager. Or stop going there.

Its fine. Of course it is. :)

lewji - i would never take one if i didnt have my baby with me ;-) but i am bf'ing so the likelyhood of me not having her with me when.shopping is not possibly atm lol :-D maybe i should dine at home & stop spending £20 a week in their cafe on x2 breakfasts + drinks. crikey, thats roughly £80pm, hmph toast at home i think :-)

YANBU I used to do it all the time. I've paid an arm and a leg for my meal and the free baby food was to entice you to eat there instead of somewhere else. Trust me you've paid for it within your own food costs.

CaptainCapybara · 04/09/2013 15:40

YANBU I would have taken it home too.

I used to use the free nappies and wipes that boots put in their baby change room even though I had my own because it saved the faff of getting stuff out the changing bag.

AnnaRack · 04/09/2013 15:49

What would happen if you had opened the jar, tried to give baby a spoonful, baby didn't want it? See in that situation I think it would be fine to take the opened jar home and feed it to your baby that lunchtime - why waste food? You would never do that on purpose of course ;)

lol annarack :-)
