Day off school for kids birthday party!?!

Madamecastafiore · 03/09/2013 16:41

Dd (13) has just advised me that she has been invited to a friends birthday party.

They are going to a well known amusement park and it has apparently been booked for the Sunday, returning on Monday so they will all need to miss a day off of school.

I have said no. Am I being unreasonable as dd and I do not agree!!!

YANBU, that's ridiculous!

meditrina · 03/09/2013 16:43

YANBU!

(Unless it turns out the Monday is in half term or an inset day).

Squitten · 03/09/2013 16:43

Have they invited the whole class? The teacher might notice if half the pupils are missing on the same day...

YANBU

usualsuspect · 03/09/2013 16:44

YANBU.

Why can't they go just for the day on Sunday?

OnTheBottomWithAWomensWeekly · 03/09/2013 16:45

an overnight birthday party? how many of them?

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 03/09/2013 16:47

YANBU, that's ridiculous!

Bowlersarm · 03/09/2013 16:48

I have never heard of that happening before. Surely the school won't allow it, even if parents did?

Madamecastafiore · 03/09/2013 16:49

No idea how many of them. Have told her to ring friend and see if it is deffo September and say no way if she is correct and they have to miss a school day.

I think she must have it muddled up.

What patent would think this acceptable?

OP posts:
usualsuspect · 03/09/2013 16:51

I bet she's got in muddled up.

Why would they need to stay overnight?

thebody · 03/09/2013 16:53

wouldn't surprise me to be honest if she's got it right.

yanbu to say no.

Madamecastafiore · 03/09/2013 16:53

She has just rung her friend.

She was right.

Her friends parents are letting her have the day off school as its her birthday party??

WTF???

Have told dd that the school won't let them have the day off for a birthday party!!

YAabsolutelyNBU!
Can you check with the birthday girl's parents yourself? (Or would that be terribly uncool for your DD?).

usualsuspect · 03/09/2013 16:55

I don't think many parents will say yes to the invite.

whattodoo · 03/09/2013 16:56

Oh, x-posts. Wow! Bet there will be quite a few 'with regret' replies to the invite!

RobotHamster · 03/09/2013 16:56

Why does it have to be overnight? Can your DD just do the theme park bit or are they staying away somewhere?

KatyaRachmanova · 03/09/2013 16:56

YANBU

I don't think the girl will have many coming with her.

TSSDNCOP · 03/09/2013 16:57

The school will have a fit when they discover half the class is off because of a child's party.

And who would really let their child go and have a fun day off in September when they will likely miss essential curriculum learning that impacts the rest of the year.

Stupid parents. Also for putting you in the position where you have to say no to DD and look like the bad guy.

The girls parents are crazy, and very selfish to put others in this position. They are probably saving a few pounds by having it on a Sunday.

usualsuspect · 03/09/2013 17:01

Are they staying overnight or just getting back late on Sunday?

If they were just getting back late,I would say yes.

Madamecastafiore · 03/09/2013 17:06

Is in November and did didn't have it wrong. They going on Sunday morning, coming back Monday!!

But

Everyone invited has declined. Not surprisingly!!

Has changed it to the Friday, coming back late Saturday, which I do not have an issue with.

I am shocked that a parent would think it acceptable to allow their child a day off of school for this reason????

5 girls, all sit together in majority of classes too so would have been a give away!

I know someone whose kids always have birthday off school. She'd probably try this.

exoticfruits · 03/09/2013 17:09

At least you know that all the parents were sensible and declined.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow · 03/09/2013 17:12

Is it the sleepover suite at Alton towers resort? Coz that looks fabulous - not on a school day though, obviously.
