Day off school for kids birthday party!?!

Dd (13) has just advised me that she has been invited to a friends birthday party.

They are going to a well known amusement park and it has apparently been booked for the Sunday, returning on Monday so they will all need to miss a day off of school.

I have said no. Am I being unreasonable as dd and I do not agree!!!

Mine always have their own and each others birthdays off school!

Id let little ones have the day off.. they spend most of the time faffing about with paper mache or learning songs anyway. Dont know about a 13 year old

Could have been exciting if they'd gone ahead with it. If the school found half the class having an unauthorised absence on the same day and discovered the reason, they could look pretty seriously at prosecuting the parents concerned for inciting it.

Haha YANBU.

DD is 16 next month. I think every year since about 9 she's asked for the day off and I've refused. Her best friend was given the day off to go shopping and DD was most put out that I refused to let her go with her.

If its Alton Towers it closes on the 10th November for the winter anyway.

I'd advise against giving a child a day off school on their birthday - the school has their Date of Birth on the system, and they are not so stupid as to spot a pattern!

I remember once in here there was a thread about weird parents who thought it perfectly acceptable to give their child a day off school on their birthday! It certainly isn't the norm- I have not come across it in all my years of teaching.

TheFillyjonk · 03/09/2013 17:34

they are not so stupid as to fail* to spot a pattern

It's the water park apparently which is open all year!!

Smug look on her face when I said park was closed and she countered with that. Felt my evilness was scuppered!!! Confused

Am totally Shock that people allow this.

McNewPants2013 · 03/09/2013 19:07

I never allow my DC to have their birthday off, no way would i allow them a day off for another child's birthday.

A wedding to a close family member i would give it a lot of consideration but not a birthday.

"I never allow my DC to have their birthday off"

What not even in primary schools? I dont think they miss too much. I guess I dont have a lot of respect for shool then!

McNewPants2013 · 03/09/2013 20:14

They are both in primary school, and no i don't.

The school allows them to bring in a shop bought cake and get to do special things within school. (like choose the story, take the register back 1st out for playtime ect)
