To think no Disney does not have a lot to answer for for your child being rude

Over the holidays a number of parents of friends of my kids have commented when their kids answer back, to them (the parents) or to others, or have made rude comments, the parents have laughed and responded 'Disney has a lot to answer for with how children now talk to adults', and not repremanded the children.

My dc watch Disney channels and also know not to talk in a rude way. The two are not interlinked.

AIBU to think it's bad parenting (lack of parenting) not the watching of Disney that has created the rudeness?

I agree about curious George that fucking monkey never listens. DD knows I don't like it so TV goes off when it comes on.

This isn't even rude but if DD says "boring dry leaves" one more time this week I'm banning that little twat Peppa for life.

When we watch TV I tend to do a running commentary on each characters unacceptable behaviour, it's any wonder she watches TV at all. Grin

Agree with everyone upthread that Peppa Pig is a gobshite.

We don't have sky so i can't comment on the 'Disney' channel influence but DS who is 6 has seen Horrid Henry a few times on CITV. Tbh, what I don't like most about Horrid Henry is that all the characters are 'Horrid'. I've sat and watched it with DS and we both agree that the parents are miserable and horrid to Henry- Henry is responding to his parents' treatment of him. It is therefore not necessary for DS to talk to his parents like this as we don't blame him for everything. I strongly believe it is a really distasteful programme as it promotes a level of acceptability for disrespect and anger in a family set up.
