So we have been on holiday in accommodation used by other family members. Earlier on in the week we went swimming. I put the washing machine on when i got back. (d)h had a moan because i put washing machine on. Think mil may have had a moan about electricity bill as i used tumble dryer last time but only guessing.
So after our last swim of holiday dh got back before me and put out towels to dry on balcony.
These towels were than put away for next ones down to use.
Aibu to think they should have been washed.
Now i know i should have said something but i couldn't face another arguument.
It has not been our best holiday ever but that would be another thread on two.
Aibu and too fussy.

I don't see why towels need washing on holiday.

fifi669 · 01/09/2013 17:00

You def have to wash the towels if you're leaving them to be used by other family members. Even if you thought they were ok for your own use I doubt they'd want to think they're drying their face where you dried your arse!

EasyToEatTiger · 01/09/2013 17:01

I think, when you arrive at a holiday house, whoever uses it, that the bedding and towels are clean. When everyone is piling in together it seems to matter less about sharing a bit of dead skin and bodily fluids, but when you arrive, it is nicer if things are clean.

pictish · 01/09/2013 17:02

I wouldn't bother washing them, but I am a bare minimum kind of chore undertaker.

FetchezLaVache · 01/09/2013 17:03

Good lord, YANBU!! Of course the towels needed washing for the next visitors to use.

Coffeenowplease · 01/09/2013 17:06

Vom ofcourse they need washing. Urgh. Jesus.

guiltyconscience · 01/09/2013 17:09

Bloody hell I feel sick at the thought we don't use each others towels at home and we certainly wunt use anyone else no matter if they were family or not it's gross yadnbu stillbusy84 !

Pozzled · 01/09/2013 17:10

I wouldn't wash towels after every swim, but I would certainly expect them to be washed before being used by another family.

pictish · 01/09/2013 17:18

I thought they were being used within the same family?

Xales · 01/09/2013 17:20

Yuck.

If you don't wash them, the person before you didn't wash them, the person after you doesn't wash them...

Don't go back in a year or take your own with you then!

Mindmaps · 01/09/2013 17:22

eeeekkkkkkkk wash wash wash

PiratePanda · 01/09/2013 17:23

I wouldn't wash towels after every swim, no - but I would definitely wash them before someone else used them!!!

WowOoo · 01/09/2013 17:23

You could have just left a note to say you hadn't washed them.
If it's family, they wouldn't mind: I'd appreciate that you'd told me.

ExcuseTypos · 01/09/2013 17:24

Of course the towels need washingShock

Whether you're swimming in the sea or a pool, your body is covered with chemicals or dirt. The towels need a blooming good wash.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/09/2013 17:24

Wash them at the end of the stay for definite, but not in between.

Notcontent · 01/09/2013 17:25

Gosh, yes. I am quite happy to use the same towel for a few days (and do) but it's just common sense that you wash towels before you put them away.

In any case, using the washing machine on a short cycle doesn't use that much electricity.

ChasedByBees · 01/09/2013 17:27

If its going to be used by the same person, fine. If its going to be used by another family member, gross and I wouldn't like it (but could put up with it). If its for another family between lets, just Shock - massively unacceptable.

loopyluna · 01/09/2013 17:28

Yanbu. Next time, make sure you wash the towels before you use them too, in case the previous users have thr same cleanliness levels as DH!

littlewhitebag · 01/09/2013 17:30

Yuck you need to wash them if you are leaving them for someone else. I would be furious to arrive and find the towels were dirty.

MmeLindor · 01/09/2013 17:30

YANBU

Everyone cleans when they leave a communal holiday home. It is only fair.

The cost of washing machine and tumble dryer is so low, that it is really not an issue if it used once or twice a week.

Sounds like the washing wasn't the issue though. Sorry your holiday wasn't great.

usualsuspect · 01/09/2013 17:30

I would have washed them at the end of the stay ,so they were clean for the next guests.

But I wouldn't have washed them in between.

BreconBeBuggered · 01/09/2013 17:36

They should have been washed at the end of your stay, for sure. And I'm definitely at the more slatternly end of the MN demographic.

AllDirections · 01/09/2013 17:37

That is totally minging Shock

I would have washed them after every visit to the swimming pool if a washing machine was available. Those places are disgusting. If washing facilities are not available then I would reuse towels but only by the same people.

AaDB · 01/09/2013 18:13

I may have washed inbetween. I would want all linens and towels clean before I used them and would wash and dry them. I'mShock
