To feel a bit tearful about my DC going back to school?

On one hand I am glad, I've run out of cash and ideas!

But another part of me is sad, we have had such a lovely summer. They will go back to yrs 8 and 10, and all of a sudden their school years are galloping by. Not looking forward to getting up in the morning. And dreading winter this year, after it seemed to go on forever last year.

Yanbu I'm feeling choked up about it, my eldest will be going back a Junior and youngest is starting reception, time flying far too fast and I'm going to miss them Sad

Groovee · 01/09/2013 09:46

My 2 are into week 4 next week and I can't believe it's our last year at the primary as we've been there over 10 years. Time is flying.

I feel exactly the same, DS will be starting year 8 and will become a teenager. I just want to turn the click back!

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2013 09:47

DD is going into Y2 and this is my last year at home with DS before he starts preschool and I go back to work.

I feel very melancholic about it. I love the long summer holiday. I feel like dd is mine again and I enjoy her company so much. Handing her over and letting go just that tiny bit more gets harder as time goes on.

dingit · 01/09/2013 09:47

Be prepared for lots of tears at the end ( mainly yours) Grovee!

Felt like this every year until this. Ds is 15. So glad to have him out of the house and back into school. The summer has not been fun

MrsDavidBowie · 01/09/2013 09:49

Mine are going into yr 10 and sixth form, and are both ready...we've had a great summer, they've done lots of things with their friends .

But they love school, and I too will be back to work after 8 weeks off.

And as dd was VERY rude last night, I think a bit of hard work will be good for her. She misses the routine of school.

claraschu · 01/09/2013 09:49

My PFB has gone to University in America. It is horrible. Every time I pass his room I start crying.

MsVestibule · 01/09/2013 09:52

Oh God, don't. DC2 starts Reception on Wednesday, and much as I'm looking forward to decorating and doing those jobs I've been putting off for months years I'll so miss that little hand in mine when we go shopping, or cuddling up on the sofa watching cbeebies and Disney videos .

Hassled · 01/09/2013 09:52

I always feel like this - I do love the holidays. We've done bugger all, really, but we've done nothing together and it's been lovely. Next week we're back to work and, back to school - I will really miss the time with them.

Hassled · 01/09/2013 09:53

clara - that must be really hard for you. Can you Skype?

Bowlersarm · 01/09/2013 09:56

I'm with Boozy -can't wait to shoo them out of the door.

I know what you mean though. One of mine has already left school, and quite honestly, I am in shock that I have a child that old, and that the years have suddenly gone by in a such a rush, all of a sudden.

They'll be on half term though soon, OP, Smile

allhappyfamiliesarealike · 01/09/2013 09:57

YANBU. Wish the school week was 4 days long or the holidays longer. DD agrees Grin

Bowlersarm · 01/09/2013 09:58

America seems a long way away claraschu.,what's he studying?

NoComet · 01/09/2013 10:04

Clara, DH will do that when DD leaves, even though it's not for another 3 years - my two are Y8 and Y11. I will miss her like mad too.

DD2 is more the ordinary teen who likes to escape with friends. DD1's friends live a fair way off and she is quite happy to muddle along with us a lot of the time. She thinks teen rebellion is a total waste of time Grin

It will be very odd, even next year as DD1 wants, for very good reason, to do her A levels at collage not stay at school.

BehindLockNumberNine · 01/09/2013 10:09

Same here, mine are going into Y10 and Y6 and it is a stark reminder they are growing up.
I am back to work after just under 6 weeks off and I really don't want to....
Sad

WhereMyMilk · 01/09/2013 10:19

I am dreading it. My precious last born starts reception on Thursday. It will be the first time in 10 years that I won't have a little one home with me, to do things with. Have that little warm hand in mine. Watch beebies. Library visits. Cooking. He has been such good company and is genuinely lovely to be around.

My oldest 2 will both be KS2 from this year (gulp) - how did that happen? How did my babies get so big?

The house will be very quiet when I get back from the school run that morning.

I will miss them all so much. :(

DarylDixonsDarlin · 01/09/2013 10:39

YANBU

Mine go back a week tomorrow and I am nearly crying already. DS aged 7 and DD aged 4.5 have tested mine and each others patience, skinted me, eaten me out of house and home, generally run me ragged, and I am going to miss them sooooooo much :( especially little DD, going into Reception. She cried yesterday because she 'still has to wait another week before school starts and it's so unfair, I want to go NOW mummy why can't I go NOW' goodness knows what I will be like once I've dropped them off!

I still have DD2 11 mo to keep me company, and her first birthday to look forward to, plus walking is imminent Grin so I will be busy in September and then we are onto to the dreaded festive season I refuse to utter the word which will keep me busy, I'm sure. I timed her right really, as she will be nearly 5 by the time she starts school, whereas DS was only just 4, so I'll get almost a whole extra year with my last baby :)

whiteandyellowiris · 01/09/2013 10:42

ikwym, i always feel a bit sad for the first few days, and it takes a good 2/3 days for me to adjust.
but then im fineSmile

chicaguapa · 01/09/2013 10:46

Yanbu. I always feel the same at the end of the summer holidays. So I count how many weeks until half term (8 weeks) and start planning Christmas next year's holidays. We usually go away in February half term so we're thinking what we want to do.

Sallystyle · 01/09/2013 10:48

I feel the same.

At the start of the holiday I wanted it to be over but now I am in the swing of it. All five are arguing like cat and dog so it will be nice not to listen to that all day, but I don't want them to go back now.

My 'baby' starts full time school too so for the first time in 14 years I no longer have a child at home.

Mintyy · 01/09/2013 10:48

Yabu! I'm really looking forward to mine going back Grin.

Bea · 01/09/2013 10:52

I've just given up teaching and was sooo looking forward to the summer hols....as I foolishly thought I wouldn't have that "going back to school" feeling....but... I'm feeling it on behalf of the dc's now!
I've loved the laziness of the hols... no rushing around, finding uniform, looking through school bags, lugging instruments back and forth, no after school clubs....
getting up when we want, eating when we want, wearing what we want, going to bed when we want... just the pure freedom of it!
sigh! They're back on tues/weds.... gutted! Sad

He11y · 01/09/2013 10:54

I know what you mean.

I used to hate the end of the summer holidays and resented what felt like handing over my child for 12 weeks.

Now we home-ed so we will be enjoying a Not Back to School Picnic when others are digging out the uniforms.

Best wishes to you all for the first day back.
