to drink a bottle of wine and read a book?

DH is away, the flat is empty (except for me and the cat). Today I got up at five, cleared all my outstanding work, tidied, put up shelves, did my daughterly duties to my DPs and then made dinner for a friend with a two week old baby. Got home, to discover a lovely bottle of Chianti in the cupboard. And my book is halfway finished.

AIBU to drink the bottle with my book, maybe fall asleep on the sofa and recover from my hangover in peace with a long bath in the morning? I suppose I could do batch cooking, or yoga stretches or something productive but I really want to enjoy this stretch of time by frittering it away...

You'd be mad not to, tbh.

RainbowCake · 31/08/2013 21:30

YABU to not be halfway through the bottle now.

GetStuffezd · 31/08/2013 21:31

Sounds perfect. Do it!

dancingwithmyselfandthecat · 31/08/2013 21:32

Thank you! I mentioned this to a RL friend over the phone before who said "drinking by YOURSELF???".

No, with mumsnet, a book and a cat. There is a difference Wink

YANBU. I was going to call you on it if you were drinking Merlot and reading a Katie Fforde Smile but seeing as you are on the Chianti and hopefully reading something good it sounds the perfect way to spend the rest of the weekend

dancingwithmyselfandthecat · 31/08/2013 21:35

The book is Wilkie Collins, The Woman in White Grin inspired by another thread. My only fear is too much of the wine and I might miss crucial plot developments.

Do it. It sounds like my dream evening.

I like drinking alone!

I'm so glad you folks agree. My friend made me feel like an alcoholic. I haven't had a glass since last weekend, and its such a pleasure to be in blessed silence. (Massive introvert alert).

The way round missing crucial stuff OP, is to read it tonight with your wine. Then re read tomorrow to make sure you've not missed anything.

Double enjoyment.

teenagetantrums · 31/08/2013 21:44

I am 1/2 way through my bottle of wine, have fished my book, would love to go to bed now but have to wait up to let annoying teenager in, have no idea why I said to her don't worry about your keys I will be up until midnight. I love to drink alone I know its supposed to be a sign of having a problem, but really I don't want to go to the pub on Saturday night, I like being alone and I like wine.

dancingwithmyselfandthecat · 31/08/2013 21:44

bowlers you speak very good sense...

Absolutely nothing unreasonable about this. Wish I had some wine and a good book but staying with in-laws tonight and have neither.

Enjoy!

absentmindeddooooodles · 31/08/2013 21:48

Yyou would be crazy not to tbh. I have wine and a book....but I also have a 2 year old who will be ready to go by 5am, a dog who will not stop barking. And a cat and kitten who are insisting on stealing my coveted milano. Pahaha. Not so good eh.

RafaellaNhaKyria · 31/08/2013 21:48

YAsoNBU! I have rented two DVDs and have a bottle of prosecco in the fridge. This is the first day I have been alone and with no commitments since I don't remember when and I have done nothing productive other than trim the cats claws so that he can knead my lap to his hearts content.

ExitPursuedByABear · 31/08/2013 21:50

I must be thick. Your question is?

Just drink the bloody wine!

Binkyridesagain · 31/08/2013 21:52

YABU for asking such a stupid question.

teenagetantrums · 31/08/2013 21:52

oh just realised thanks to other comments im not drinking alone really I have two mad cats running around so that makes it ok.

YANBU, sounds perfect :)

dancingwithmyselfandthecat · 31/08/2013 22:01

You don't drink alone with a cat or two. Certainly not mine, who will try her best to get in the glass and nearly drowned herself that way as a kitten..

Buddhagirl · 31/08/2013 22:55

Do it, nothing wrong with drinking alone, not as if you do it every day and who cares if you do. Life's too short.

MadBusLady · 31/08/2013 22:58

Oh that's such a great book as well! I really need to forget it quicker so I can read it again.

K8Middleton · 31/08/2013 22:59

I dream of such an evening Envy

RevoltingPeasant · 31/08/2013 22:59

OP that is one of my very favourite books - I hope you are ignoring this thread because you are frantically turning pages and glugging vino!
