to drink a bottle of wine and read a book?

DH is away, the flat is empty (except for me and the cat). Today I got up at five, cleared all my outstanding work, tidied, put up shelves, did my daughterly duties to my DPs and then made dinner for a friend with a two week old baby. Got home, to discover a lovely bottle of Chianti in the cupboard. And my book is halfway finished.

AIBU to drink the bottle with my book, maybe fall asleep on the sofa and recover from my hangover in peace with a long bath in the morning? I suppose I could do batch cooking, or yoga stretches or something productive but I really want to enjoy this stretch of time by frittering it away...

Fucking hell. Get off MN and DO IT

I did this the other day except I watched a whole series of Spooks.

And then followed it with some more wine

Get on it woman Grin

Oh, yanbu at all. I love doing this when I'm on my own. It's one of life's small pleasures.

I'm drinking wine now, but I'm not strictly speaking on my own either -my dd has nodded off the sofa with me (I'll carry her up to bed in a min) and I have the dog and MN! Although I'm the only one actually drinking the wine

I am currently on the first glass of my second bottle. (There may be one more glass. I knows my limits).

I've been dancing round my flat (note: I'm child free) to 70's disco. No books.

Your friend is a loon.

Just returned to this thread. Book is sooo good (won't say what's happened lest I spoil it but those who haven't MUST READ IT. WITH WINE. This is an order Smile ).

Tonight is probably the most perfect night I've had all year. If I were David Cameron I would actually make drinking alone with a book mandatory. At least twice a year.

One of my favourite books OP! So gripping, what part are you at?

I'm a big Marian fan.

Walter Hartwright has just got to Laura's grave.

I am a huge Marian fan. But really pissed off that I suspect that Walter won't fall for her after all. Maybe she finds a man (or woman) worthy of her...

Drinking fast so I may not remember much in the morning, and can then go back and reread Grin

Get thee off MN OP and ENJOY

Marian is far too good for weedy Walter! Not saying whether she ends up with him or not but he is a bit weedy.

I never understand this thing about not drinking alone. The people I know whose drinking worries me are the ones who are knocking it back in company every night without really paying attention to what they are drinking, and always going a bit too far. I know real alcoholics drink alone, but they just drink the whole time anyway.

But YABU to not have chocolate on the go as well.
