To think size 12 is not "heavy"

CruCru · 30/08/2013 18:51

I keep seeing comments on here from people who are size 10/12 who think they are heavy. I would never think this is even remotely heavy, just a healthy slim size.

OP posts:
Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 22:40

Yeah right Russian-I must be jealous of all slim women right? Eh no I am happy in my own skin and as I said after having a life threatening disease I dont worry about whats around the corner.Whats for you wont go by you.I find it laughable that some posters on this thread cant accept how happy and confident I am even though I am a wee bit fat.It seems to really irk them.

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2013 22:44

Pinup I honestly don't think anyone here is going to give a shiny one about what you or anyone else weighs.

I think if anyone is getting irked, it might be because you've accused people of whinging when they're simply having an adult discussion about the topic in hand.

It's good that you're happy with your size and that you don't know or care what you weigh. It's also good that you're healthy right now.

But you're coming across as a teensy bit judgemental of those who do care imo.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 31/08/2013 22:48

pinupgirl People who feel the need to bang on incessantly to all and sundry about how attractive they are and how confident they are usually have ISSUES in my experience.

FYI I'm not irked by your claims of gorgeousness and confidence. I find them mildly diverting. And more interesting than the Gaelic music programme my DH currently has on the telly.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 31/08/2013 22:53

Am I allowed to say I genuinely don't find cake chocolate or crisps all that?

I don't crave them and could happily never eat them again.
Cheese, wine, yeah. Yum.
But the idea that we all crave/battle sweet stuff has always puzzled me. Going without is no deprivation for me and lots of other people I know. Of varying sizes and fitness levels.

tb · 31/08/2013 22:54

I'm just under 5"5', and last time I was a size 14, I measured 37-24-35 and weighed nearly 10st 7lbs. I was weight-training doing circuits 4 times a week.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/08/2013 22:56

Why is it wrong to care about ones weight though?

I mean, all power to women who are comfortable at whatever weight they are. But many aren't and it's important to acknowledge that too and provide support in making the changes that will enable them to be happy.

I'm not happy at the weight I am currently. I still wear the same size clothes but look better weighing a bit less. This is a fact that can be seen in photographs (not that I'm providing any). I've had eating issues in the past, quite severe ones and it's taken a long time for me to be able to trust myself to address weight issues in a rational way. I think I am at the point where I can do so now. So I will. It's half a stone, that's all. But I've had to deliberately concentrated on just enjoying food for years to get here.

Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 22:57

Wow Russian I have really hit a nerve with you havent I?-are you ok? Fyi I never laid a claim to gorgeous-I wish! But I am very confident and I suppose some people are threatened by that.Their problem.

Talkinpeace · 31/08/2013 23:01

pinupgirl
put up a profile photo to back up your words

Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 23:02

Allsvola-are you still getting help with your eating disorder?

RussiansOnTheSpree · 31/08/2013 23:05

Not at all. I just don't like people who bang on incessantly about how great they are. It's invariably either dishonest or deluded. I'm not the one acting as though they feel threatened, after all.

Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 23:07

No thanks Talkin-I come on mn to escape rl! And I have no need to"back up my words" to a bunch of strangers. I think you need to take a step back-you appear to be taking this thread way too seriously.words on a screen and all that-

Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 23:12

I dont feel threatened by keyboard warriors.Ever.I think thats your projection Russian.Again.where did I.say I was great? I dont believe I used that word once on this thread? I said I was happy and confident in my own skin because I am-what is YOUR problem with that?

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2013 23:12

Wow Russian I have really hit a nerve with you havent I?-are you ok? Fyi I never laid a claim to gorgeous-I wish! But I am very confident and I suppose some people are threatened by that.Their problem.

Why in the world would anyone be threatened by someone who says they're confident, overweight, happy and healthy?

That's like feeling threatened by a smoker who says they love smoking, they're confident and are happy and healthy.

The only thing running through my mind would be that I hope they're still healthy in a few more years and that they don't have medical issues due to their choices. Or that they don't choose to get pregnant and possibly put their baby and themselves at any avoidable risk.

But I don't see where 'threatened' would ever come into it?

Talkinpeace · 31/08/2013 23:19

One of the reasons I am unwilling to risk being unwell due to being overweight is to reduce the chance of becoming a burden on my children and later grandchildren.
Too many friends are caring for chroncally ill parents while still dealing with children at home.
The majority of chronic illness can be avoided by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
We owe it to ourselves and our descendants to try.

Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 23:19

Worra-well some people on this thread clearly are threatened by my confidence as they feel the need to deride it,respond or snipe at me.But as I said-their issues. I have to retire to bed now but I think this has been a very interesting thread.

SlobAtHome · 31/08/2013 23:21

Talkinpeace Yes I was saying that BMI IS a good calculator. I was arguing against someone who said it wasn't and said that waist to hip ratio is better. Like i said, waist to hip doesnt take into account hip build. BMI ignores build and is a good calc.

ouryve · 31/08/2013 23:21

The British are (on average) overweight.

Quite, Talkinpeace

I've been quite clear about my proportions. I am very borderline on all the health indicators. I've been quite clear that I have a joint disorder which can't tolerate me carrying too much weight. Unfortunately, the drugs I take to help manage the pain pre-dispose to weight gain. I'm taller than most of the women in my family in the generation previous to mine, but like them, I predispose to the classic British dumpy.

I'm by no means the slimmest mother on the school run, but those who make me think "Wow! She has a fabulous figure and she's glowing with health, ah, those were the days" (and by that, I'm not including the really skinny ones because none of the really skinny ones in this particular cohort do look at all healthy) are few and far between.

Butwilliseeyouagain · 31/08/2013 23:22

It certainly hasn't been my experience that men prefer 'curvy' women. When I was a size 12 I could have burst into flames and no-one would have noticed me. Then I went down to a size 10. Women told me I was too thin. Men were practically chasing me down the street.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/08/2013 23:24

Pinup

That is really fucking rude. I don't have an eating disorder anymore thank you very much. I haven't said anything against your posts is there any need to be so fucking rude and offensive?

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2013 23:24

Night Pinupgirl

RussiansOnTheSpree · 31/08/2013 23:25

You have said several times how attractive you think you are. You have said how confident you are. Several times. You have mentioned that you used to be a size 10 'stunner'. You have called so,e of the posters in this thread miserable boring twats. You have suggested that anyone who doesn't like the foods you seem to be somewhat obsessed by is depriving themself and has issues. Many many people in this thread have commented negatively on your posts today. Not just me. You have claimed that anyone who thinks your postings are a bit off must be 'threatened' by you. And yet you seemingly don't understand why people aren't embracing your posts with acclaim.

For myself, having also had a life threatening illness (when I was much younger) I loathe it when people flash that as some kind of moral trump card to justify insulting other posters. You were never insulting me since I don't even know what I weigh so I certainly don't obsess about it, nor do I whine, nor do I count calories. But you were being n kind to others in this thread. For no reason other than they aren't like you. Which is no good reason at all.

Pinupgirl Sat 31-Aug-13 23:02:42

Allsvola-are you still getting help with your eating disorder?

_

Why is this any of your business?

Wanting to be or stay a healthy weight is not a symptom of an eating disorder. Are you doubting this poster's assessment of the weight she needs to be to feel and be healthy?

ouryve · 31/08/2013 23:28

And I've done the life threatening illness, too. I'm sure that many of us have.

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2013 23:32

Obesity can cause life threatening illnesses too

Which is another reason many people want to look after their weight.

Alisvolatpropiis · 31/08/2013 23:34

Thank you ouryve.

Pinup

I mentioned my past issues because I am proud to have overcome them. Not for you to question it. Not as secure in yourself as you make out it seems.
