To think size 12 is not "heavy"

CruCru · 30/08/2013 18:51

I keep seeing comments on here from people who are size 10/12 who think they are heavy. I would never think this is even remotely heavy, just a healthy slim size.

5mad I think that'd be a 32G?

As far as pinching an inch I can pinch much much more. Always have been able to. But I think it's just skin not fat.

5madthings · 31/08/2013 18:09

Thanks sorrel I just imputed those measurements on an online calculator and it said I should be a 36c... Ha ha ha that would be way to lose on the underband and my boobs would be spilling out!

5madthings · 31/08/2013 18:11

Yep some of mine so skin, carrying five babies of 9-11lb means my tummy is never going to be flat and toned! Small price to pay tho bit oh how I wish I had appreciated my tummy before children!

usuallyright · 31/08/2013 18:18

Parmarella, that's the most sensible post on this entire sorry thread. And I agree, who really gives a fuck about measurements and comparisons? Really, who?
Depressing.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 31/08/2013 18:19

Well, apparently you do.

Talkinpeace · 31/08/2013 18:20

Funny,
I do not think I look scrawny in my profile picture .....
And yet in the other picture I was a size 12.
I'll never ever allow myself to get that heavy again as it was damaging my knees.

5madthings · 31/08/2013 18:22

You look fab talkin well done :)

hardboiledpossum · 31/08/2013 18:22

I don't understand the pinch an inch. Surely only people with rock hard abs can't? I can certainly pinch an inch and i have a waist measurement if 24"

5madthings · 31/08/2013 18:23

How tall are you btw? Tbh I would say you looked bigger than a 12 in the other picture, but this not a full body pic, and pics can be deceiving.

Talkinpeace · 31/08/2013 18:23

hardboiled
the day my profile pic was taken I could pinch about three inches (stretch marks)!

5madthings · 31/08/2013 18:24

Are you pinching horizontally or vertically? Am sure most people can pinch an inch, mine is a bit more than an inch, tho much less if I pinch vertically!

Thumbwitch · 31/08/2013 18:24

pinching an inch = a) not that useful and b) you're definitely supposed to do it vertically :) as you can see from the pic.

usuallyright · 31/08/2013 18:24

clearly I am the only mumsnetter who doesn't weigh herself, know all her measurements off by heart etc, lol?!!

5madthings · 31/08/2013 18:28

I don't know my measurements by heart, I do weigh myself once a week or so and I know my was it as it has gone down as I have been exercising, I took all my measurements and re did them after a month to see the difference, you can tone up but not lsoe ,much weight but still lose inches. I got the tape measure out again today as have been ,meaning to check my bra size ams this thread prompted me to check hip size etc.

It think it is interesting how size and weight can vary so much, just shows how different we all are :)

SorrelForbes · 31/08/2013 18:38

I never weigh myself (slight issues with that in the past).

5madthings Step away from the on-line calculators, most of them are bonkers!

Metalgoddess · 31/08/2013 18:38

Usuallyright I agree with you totally on everything you have said.

BuskersCat · 31/08/2013 18:40

I'm 5foot3, weigh 10 1/2 stone (makes me 2 stone overweight) and am a size 12. I'd say that I am heavy.

ouryve · 31/08/2013 18:42

So if you're fat at a size 12 then you're fat at a size 12.

If you're not then you're not.

But admitting you are and doing something about it, does not mean you have some sort of eating disorder or that you're body dysmorphic (SP).

Worra - if there was a MN quote of the day, this should be it.

forevergreek · 31/08/2013 18:43

At a slim size 6-8, I can still pinch an inch.

SorrelForbes · 31/08/2013 18:43

The bra calculators that is!

ouryve · 31/08/2013 18:46

And I saw a woman today who was probably a size 4, not even a 6. She was no bigger than my 9 year old, but not completely devoid of a little shape around her hips and boobs. Really tiny. What actually caught my eye was the gigantic platform wedges she was wearing to get her above 5'. They were bigger than her head.

karalime · 31/08/2013 18:47

I have read this entire thread and it seems the only person with size/weight hysteria seems to be you usuallyright. The consensus seems to be that we're all different shapes and sizes but to you it's only size 12-14 that is 'healthy'. And since size 6 is a children's size, is a size 16 fat? I'm 5'4", an apple shape, 9st6 with skinny legs, no boobs or bum and a size 12 on me would be FAT. My mum is a bit taller a has bigger boobs so for her a size 12-14 is normal. To paraphrase earlier 'we can't all be size 6/8/10', we can't all be bloody Kim Kardashian so enough with the lanky bashing.

fossil971 · 31/08/2013 18:47

A short person might be over BMI 25 at a size 12.

I am truthfully a bit too heavy for comfort. I'm BMI 27-ish , 5'3" and fit into some M&S size 12 trousers, although I normally buy a 14. I'm sure some other fit healthy athletic people might be a similar weight but not feel they need to lose anything - fine!

Due to vanity sizing a current size 12 is a lot bigger than it was 20 years ago.

(slimming bore moment: Buskers you are the same as me, you can't be 2 stone overweight. You could lose 2 stone and be slim rather than borderline, is that what you mean? I'm holding out for 9 stone).

Pinupgirl · 31/08/2013 18:48

You were not a size 12 in that before picture talkin-no offence but I am a size 16 and I don't have as round a face as that.

I do think you look very slim in the other picture but if you are happy with that then good for you-perhaps accept that other people are just as happy being a bit heavier?

Nope I never weigh myself either-I go by how my clothes fit. At a 34 inch waist I am sure many on here would think I am horribly fat whereas I think of myself as very voluptuous.

SparkyTGD · 31/08/2013 18:53

I think in general for the average height woman (eg 5ft 4/5) a 12 is not overweight but for anyone smaller it might be, and for anyone taller a 12 is (usually) slim.
