Think I've broken an unwritten "mum rule"

Decided to bake cakes with the dc. Filled one tray and there was still half the mix left over and the dc were going mad about licking it out so I just have them the half full bowl and a spoon each.

Tell me I'm making memories and they will always remember the day I let them eat cake mix rather than just being a lazy slattern. Or aib hideously unreasonable?

YABVU - i can think of few things more disgusting than the taste and texture of cake batter (and i've drank cat wee!). I have memories of my mum trying to foist manky bowls with the stuff all over the sides on me to lick clean - because she loved doing that with her mum she wanted me to have the same experience - but the thought of getting my fingers all gakky and licking the gak offf Oh god i feel gippy now. Grin

When I bake with the DCs I tell them they can't lick the bowl because it has raw eggs in and then, when they are not looking....

They are allowed the butter icing bowl though..

mrskoala I arrive here fresh from the terrible weddings thread, on which you feature hilariously, and discover you here, on my friend D0Gs thread admitting to drinking cat wee.
You are a regular caution and need to be made into a film.

And D0G YANBU, of course.
DD is still overjoyed that I once threw mashed potato at her when she dared me to (anyone remember 'Bodger and Badger')

Blerghh, I think I'm the only person ever to hate cake mix. All tha raw flour, yuck.

If my kids wanted to lick the bowl, however, they're welcome to. As long as I don't have to join in.

Ha Norks - I would like to say some of what i post is exaggeration, but sadly not, this is actually my actual life! I have often been told by people with normal families and experiences, that i should write a book. There is Mner trying to convince me to blog. But to me these are just normal everyday occurrences, it's not till i mention them to people that i realise how bizarre i am. Confused

I am hoping there is a meet up in late Dec/Jan so i can prove i am not a troll.

MrsKoala · 30/08/2013 22:50

and i am now singing bodger and badger! so thanks for that.

If the cake mix gets to the tin without having some of it eaten I count that as a win! Reminds me of the time I turned round, 2 seconds later turned back and dd1 had her entire face in the bowl of chocolate cake mix. To which she just smiled with her face covered in cake mix. Very funny!

Fairy1303 · 30/08/2013 23:30

My best memories are of eating the left over cake mix with my nan
couldn't eat it with mum because she used to cry and curdle the fairy cakes

I'm pretty sure DSD only ever wants to bake with me so she can lick the bowl.

In fact I would argue that it is a mum rule to let them, rather than not let them.

Everyone knows the raw batter is nicer than the actual cake. For that reason I even sent in raw cake batter to a cake sale at our school. (Not really.)
