to think the lollipop man shouldn't give my DD a toy

my 2yo daughter was crying about going in the pushchair when we got outside the school today. The new lollipop man produced a toy horse out his pocket & gave it to her & told her he wanted to know what she'd called it tomorrow. AIBU to feel incredibly uncomfortable about this?

Posting in AIBU invites the ranty response.

You would be more comfortable in the "Chat" topic.

No harm done, op. Dust yourself off. Not very long from now when the daily routine has become less fraught, you'll look back and be able to laugh at this episode.

OMG my children's hairdresser always gives them sweets when they've had a haircut so does that mean something sinister?? NO they are just being KIND!
Gosh people really do see danger everywhere don't they!
If it was a strange man saying 'do you wanna see my puppies?' and rubbing his thighs then yes I would be worried ;)

OP, I highly doubt one person giving your daughter a toy when she was crying once made her cry for toys all day. Children don't get 'spoilt' that quickly! You seem to pride yourself on being firm and the poor old lollipop man couldn't possibly have undone all that in one brief moment.

She was clearly just having a bad day, like two year olds do.

Perhaps hiss at him like cat next time you pass him?

To be fair, op, you moaned about the toy "sending her off on one all day", but she was already off on one, hence the lollipop man kindly trying to help her calm down? Your later posts show how and why you're a bit stressed, and I hope things improve for you, but your initial op was a bit scaremongering, you know, and you gave two totally spurious reasons why this nice gesture was in fact the sole cause of your bad day.
