to think this man should not be practising his golf at the recreation ground

once a week, I think, perhaps more, but around 9 am, there is this eejit man, playing golf,
he does stop when I walk by with my dog, hehas to stop for a while tbh, as he hits the balls quite far and has to avoid me and my dog
but surely it must be against bylaws to be playing golf, not actually playing golf, but practising his swing, or something. the balls are hard fgs

Park boards often say "No Golf". What do the boards in your park say?

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 26/08/2013 20:40

What's the issue?

He's using recreational ground recreationally playing golf in a recreational manner. It's there for everyone.

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/08/2013 20:47

our local park has signs up saying "no golf, no horseriding, no motorbikes" etc. We had a bloke doing the same a few weeks back - the notice boards got bigger so i guess someone reported him.

20quid - its a safety issue - getting hit on the head with a golf ball could do some real damage - what if it hit a kiddie? golf is prohibited on parks for that reason.
if you want to play golf - go to a golf course!

IAmNotDarling · 26/08/2013 20:47

ILet Hmm Small hard balls being hit quite far in a public space.

OP - I'd ring the local park warden (try council website) and tell him.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 26/08/2013 21:08

Oh for goodness sake I'm sure he's perfectly capable of making sure there's no one in line of his ball. Christ I grew up near some of the best golf courses in this country, they have paths just behind the green, roads right through them too!

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/08/2013 00:41

golf is prohibited on public parks - end of story. he is doing wrong whether or not you agree or not.

op - if you inform the council they will / should act.

Floralnomad · 27/08/2013 00:50

ilet even professional golfers do duff shots so there is no way he can guarantee where that ball is going . We have had problems with horse riders on the local Heath ,using the trim trail as a cross country course but the parish council seem to have sorted it out .

Floralnomad · 27/08/2013 00:52

Posted too soon , if you're walking on a golf course you keep an eye out for stray balls ,you don't expect to do that in the local park .

PrincessLayer · 27/08/2013 01:25

There was a bloke near me used to play the bagpipes (very badly) in the middle of the recreation field.

DropYourSword · 27/08/2013 05:40

He stops when you walk by so presumably stops for other passers by too. Since there is then no risk of anyone being injured I just don't see what the problem is.

ILetHimKeep20Quid · 27/08/2013 07:44

No wonder we are a nation of tubbies who are crap at sport when any open space is littered with conditions as to what you can and cannot do on them!

CaptainSweatPants · 27/08/2013 07:50

I agree with 20quid

Plus golf courses are expensive to join

InternationalPower · 27/08/2013 07:51

I can't believe people think this us ok. My dad has no front teeth because of someone like this. Report to the council. If he's there at regular times he will be easy to stop. And they will because they know how dangerous it is/ that they could be sued if they don't.

MrsHoarder · 27/08/2013 07:56

The opposite approach 20quid is that if you let a small minority stop the rest using public space then people go out less. No golf, motorbikes or horseriding is a fair set of rules in a busy park.

comingalongnicely · 27/08/2013 08:33

A quick flick back through the past 100 years or so of the local rag will allow you to collate the number of Golf related mishaps that have occurred.

If it's less than 5 in the whole century then YABVU if, on the other hand, it's 1 a month or so you will certainly have a case.

I do think it's quite sad the amount of people that want to busybody in other peoples affairs for the "greater good" of an as yet undefined victim....

InternationalPower · 27/08/2013 09:28

Nonsense coming, for most of the last 100 years public spaces will have been properly policed, either officially or by the public so instances of people playing golf in public spaces will be rare, let alone accidents.

I still remember the blood when df took that golfball in his mouth when i was a child and he's been suffering for it ever since with pain and dental treatment.

Mind you, I'm also a bit Hmm about people who think sports fields/playgrounds are suitable places to exercise dogs!

inconvenience relating to dentures /dental treatment

waikikamookau · 27/08/2013 09:32

the dog walkers walk round the edge of the fields, the footballers, kite flyers, bike riders, aerobics class, are in the middle.

"Golf is a game for twats anyway"

Well that's alright then! Hmm lock him up & throw away the key...

DropYourSword · 27/08/2013 10:46

"Golf is a game for twats anyway"

What a strange argument.

toomanyfionas · 27/08/2013 10:48
