once a week, I think, perhaps more, but around 9 am, there is this eejit man, playing golf,
he does stop when I walk by with my dog, hehas to stop for a while tbh, as he hits the balls quite far and has to avoid me and my dog
but surely it must be against bylaws to be playing golf, not actually playing golf, but practising his swing, or something. the balls are hard fgs

Actually golf need not be expensive most people live near a public course and can play there quite cheaply . Golf ranges do a bucket of balls (25/35) for a couple of pounds and pitch and putt courses are generally less than £10 per round . These prices are for the south east .

I had my checkbone fractured by a stray golf ball in a park at around 7 .... a cm to the left and It would have cost me my eyesite.

There are golf clubs and driving ranges for a reason.....

problem is it is not the council, it is the parish council, and I bet he is a member,
still I could email them, or may be ring them

What he's doing is dangerous and is why golf clubs have very strict rules about never teeing off until the fairway is clear (aka don't hit the ball 'til the previous lot have moved off).

I would complain - he's going to seriously injure someone if he's using proper golf balls. Even the lightweight practice balls hurt.

ThatVikRinA22 · 27/08/2013 22:31

it doesnt matter which council it is - call them.

or have a word with neighbourhood police team - they can speak to him.

pennyapples · 28/08/2013 07:57

Are you sure they are hard golf balls? My husband used to nip over to the local rec to practice his pitching until asked not to by somebody. Doesn't do it now but he was never using hard balls, just the practice foam ones. Most folders would use them i would expect - it's what they are made for

chrome100 · 28/08/2013 08:24

I think life is far too short to worry about these things. Let him get on with his golf.

picnicbasketcase · 28/08/2013 08:34

He shouldn't be playing it there, definitely consult local police or council before someone gets smashed in the face. But in my experience people take no bloody notice of what is and isn't allowed in parks - the children's play area near me is used by several fuckwits as a large 'run' for their massive dogs to shit in rather than taking them for a proper walk despite the 'no dogs allowed' signs.

waikikamookau · 28/08/2013 08:35

the consensus of opinion seems to be he is in the wrong, and they are hard balls.
will contact parish council

I suppose it is prohibited; but tbh, living in London and seeing what some people get up to in the parks here, someone playing golf wouldn't bother me at all.

I grew up in a house facing the first tee of a very nice golf course. The amount of golf balls hit in the opposite direction to where they supposed to go and into our front garden was quite suprising.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 28/08/2013 09:15

We live looking out on a recreation ground. When dd was 6 weeks old we were sitting in our garden enjoying the first decent evening of the year when a golf ball landed about 6 feet from her pram. Dh went and found the owners - it was a couple of lads. They were being sensible and aiming the balls in a deserted part of the ground (75 degree angle to the direction of ourcouldn't it had miss hit. We couldn't see them (and in their defence they couldn't see us)as there were small trees between us and them but that wouldn't have done dd any good if the ball had hit her.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 28/08/2013 09:16

That would say "75 degree angle to our house but they must have miss hit."
