AIBU to be a bit cross and disgusted that my sister is still going to let her dog sleep on her bed?

My sister has a smallish dog that she lets sleep in with her and her husband. He's around 8 or 9 years old and has been allowed to do this since day one when they got him when he was around 4 years old.

He can be a bit aggressive sometimes, but is generally just a bit of an anti social dog more than anything else.

My sister is pregnant and is going to have her baby in approximately 3 or 4 months time.

She has said recently that she can't not let her dog stay in her bed/bedroom because he's so used of it, he couldn't cope without being in with her and her husband.

AIBU to think this is pretty dangerous when the newborn baby is also going to be in the same room as they are? He could jump in the moses basket/cot/pram (possibly) and when she brings the baby in to breastfeed the dog could get aggressive as he's very territorial and jealous. Equally he sheds a lot of hairs and would get loads of hairs on the blanket and the baby could get that in their mouth.

We have a dog too but he sleeps outside in the corridor when we are in bed (daughter is 5 months old).

I don't think I can do anything else about this as she seems pretty adamant about it and is a lovely person but is very stubborn and set in her ways and don't want to start an argument with her but AIBU to really quite worried about this?

Prepared to be called silly as many posters are on AIBU, but just really don't think it's all that safe.

NCd as she could possibly be on MN.

Sorry again. I thought that the OP was having a dig about her sister but I completely misread.

Any animal on a bed is disgusting in my opinion. However other people are entitled to have opinions too (until I become supreme ruler anyway!)

One of my favourite pics is of DD about 10 days old fast asleep on the bed and me cuddled up around her and the dog lying on the bed

Shoot me now

She survived ...as did the other two. All 3 in their own beds tonight and DDog under my bed Grin

The old bag has slept on my bed since the day she came home as a puppy 14 years ago. So has feral dog for the last seven years. I could see no reason to change the comfortable sleeping arrangements of many years. DS went in to his cot in his room, Old Bag stayed curled up next to me, Feral on the end of the bed. When DS woke up and needed feeding, I brought him back to my bed and old bag just stuck her head under the doona to keep the light out. Now, DS comes in for morning cuddles and feral dog, who thinks the sun shines out of him, comes up and has cuddles with him. She drapes herself across his lap while he watches cartoons and plays with her ears. My favourite time of day :)

The cat was in the actual crib with me. I slept in the living room until a room was built for me when I was two. In 1970, no one knew about SIDS and such. We also had a Newfoundland and a Saint Bernard who played freely with me and my siblings when we were toddlers. I was also fed only formula, given rice cereal at four weeks, and put in a windup swing to be less bother when meals were prepared. What my mother regretted was giving me a pacifier. It was supposed to be more modern, and better for the teeth. It was lost much more easily than a thumb. My sister sucked her thumb until she took up smoking at sixteen.

I'd rather have a dog in the bedroom with (my hypothetical) child than a casual boyfriend. It's much safer.

Her dog, her bed, her baby... I'm sure she won't have the dog and baby sleeping in the bed together...

Quite a few people assured me when I was pregnant with DS1 that the cat was going to suck the breath right out of him if I let her anywhere near.

Guess what? The cat didn't give a fuck about the baby. She was with me through 2 babies and nothing ever happened.

Unless your Sister is a moron she can probably figure this out.

My next door neighbours have a basset hound.

It's very cute but it doesn't half bark all the time :)

YABU, our little dog slept on our bed because she was such a nervous dog. The night before DS was born she slept on the floor nearest me. For a week after DS she slept on the floor right by his moses basket and then came on the bed but would be at my feet unless DS was on the bed and then she was on the floor.

My dog sleeps on my bed. When dd came along it didn't phase him at all. In fact, with no input from us, he stopped as soon as I came home & only this winter (dd is 5) has he started to come up again.

We gave him clear signs that her bassinet was off limits & we had no issues. Baby had her space, dog had his space.

They adore each other now, best of friends. he will do anything for her.

I am pretty sure your dsis knows what she is doing.

I do so wish my dog would sleep on the bed but he cannot get up the stairs. Sad
