AIBU to make H re-do uniform shopping?

He's moaning A LOT about how much I've spent.

Spent £220 for 2 DCs. The school have moved sites and we have a new uniform from September, completely different colour from the last, so I've had to buy EVERYTHING from new.

AIBU to cancel the online orders and make him do it himself? Might shut him up for an hour or two at the least Confused

Just print off the bill; show him the school list and prove your point.

Dumbledorable · 22/08/2013 08:37

I have! He still thinks I should have been able to do it all from Tesco for £10.

£10??? Does he not think they need blazers shoes bags coats underwear etc? He really has never done it before has he??!! :o

purrpurr · 22/08/2013 08:47

God my DH thinks you should be able to get the moon on a stick for sixpence. When out and about he is continually surprised and disgusted by how expensive things are - but he doesn't use that information to build a picture of how much things cost in the real world rather than in his head, he just decides Tesco is expensive...

Cancel and get your H to do it over. He presumably thinks you've spent £10 on uniform and the rest on, what, glitter and chocolate.

I've bought 2 logo jumpers and 1 logo polo shirt each. The logo items came to £90 but that includes book bags, PE kit and bags and tie.

He wants me to have 1 set of uniform for the week, that I wash every day or every other day if they're clean (Y1 & 3 so unlikely!). Which would be fine but I don't have enough hours in the day as it is!

Primary, I guess?
It's a bit high, but I usually manage to buy 2nd hand.

mrsjay · 22/08/2013 09:14

mrsjay · 22/08/2013 09:15

I should think washing everyday would be more expensive once you've added up powder, water, electricity and how will you get it dry in winter, tumble drying would cost a fortune .

Dobbiesmum · 22/08/2013 09:31

DH finally understood how the uniform bill was so high last year when we had to buy all new for DS's school uniform. Poor bloke had a fit of the vapours when we got to the till with his pe kit, all with logos in specific colours and it came to £90! It was in part his own fault as him and DS decided he should get the waterproof jacket which bumped it up rather...
But that plus blazer, ties etc plus his sister's(no logos thank god) uniform makes the uniform bill fairly eye watering.

mrsjay · 22/08/2013 09:32

and the uniform will be washed out quicker if you are washing it ever other day so will need to buy more anyway

marriedinwhiteisback · 23/08/2013 07:54

Doesn't the younger get the older one's stuff! How do you manage with one polo each - hopefully you have stocks. At that age min of three shirts, three jumpers, three shorts.x

BlissfullyIgnorant · 23/08/2013 08:00

Laundering every day is false economy. Tell him you worked out that it will cost 8 x the cost of a uniform, over the course of a year and add to that wear and tear on the washing machine.
Don't to forget to remind him that kids grow and they'll eventually get round to needing more Grin

Inertia · 23/08/2013 08:21

Why have you got to wash it every day ? Is dh allergic to washing machines ?

Don't cancel and get him to reorder because it'll be the children in bother if he goes off -piste. I would give him the itemised list and the school phone number , and suggest he discusses with the head why the children have to have logo uniform.

MammaTJ · 23/08/2013 08:25

My DP is taking the DC to his parents next week. We live in a small ends of the earth town, they live in a city. It is more convenient for him to do the uniform shop, he doesn't moan about the cost then!

The school has changed uniform - every single item has changed colour. I have nothing to hand down! I could understand his moaning if we couldn't afford it but we can Confused

He works and lives away during the week so presumably I am meant to wash and dry the uniform every night whilst attending to one 3 month old and the 3 bigger DC?!

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 23/08/2013 13:33

Tell him to do it then! Seriously, does he think you just spend money for the sake of it?
I'd like to see how far £10 gets him!!

GlaikitFizzog · 23/08/2013 13:34

And, if Dh questioned why I was spending money on something and asking me to justify, I would be livid! Is he like this with money regularly?

Mabelface · 23/08/2013 13:40

With primary school, I bought sweatshirts and polos in the school's colours from tesco. I didn't bother with the overpriced logo stuff, and they can't enforce it either. I'm with your DH on this one!

noisytoys · 23/08/2013 15:28

Uniform is expensive. I don't wear the cheapest of cheap clothes because they are scratchy, non stretch, uncomfortable and don't fit or wash right, why should DCs wear the cheapest of cheap just because they are wearing them to school. I do buy second hand and re use when possible thought so got it all in for less than £70 ish for one DD

Toohottohandle · 23/08/2013 15:39

I spend alot on both dds they r both starting in a new school
Both needed embriodered jumpers, polo shirts, pinafore dresses, pe bags, pe kit, etc

AnythingNotEverything · 23/08/2013 15:42

What Glaikit said. Does DH often treat you like a child?

Seriously - you're a grown woman, with the intelligence to plan what's best for your kids and your routines. Does he check all your receipts?
