To think I've seen how children become entitled!

Met up with a group today - all mums with their children in a local country park. I knew some people but not others. DS (9) had bought some bats and balls, things to play with etc as had some others.

A girl we didn't know but was with group asked to use his bat and ball. I said yes. She started hitting the ball far. Eventually it went into some bushes and she just shrugged and walked away. When she came back with bat I asked her where ball was. She said it went in bushes. The following conversation occurred.

ME: can you go and get it please it belongs to my DS
GIRL: But its all the way over there
ME: It's DS ball, you borrowed it and need to go and get it
GIRL: but it's in the bushes
ME: Can you reach it?
GIRL: Yes, but I don't want to go all the way over there.
ME: You need to go and get the ball, I'll come with you and help.
GIRL: I don't want to go.
ME: OK, I'll go but you cannot borrow any more of DS stuff if your not going to care for it.

The mother then laid into me - and I mean shouted and screamed - that I shouldn't be making her DD go and get the ball if she didn't want to, and how mean I was to not let her use any more of the stuff as she didn't bring anything to play with as she didn't want her stuff to get broken. My face was just Shock then Hmm

We left shortly after!

So WIBU?

YWNBU

You should have thrown the mother in the bushes with the ball, after first ensuring there were lots of stinging nettles there.

hardboiledpossum · 21/08/2013 15:13

Yanbu

polkadotsrock · 21/08/2013 15:14

Are you serious?? I don't even think I can write what my response to that fool would have been!!

polkadotsrock · 21/08/2013 15:14

The fool being the mother

aturtlenamedmack · 21/08/2013 15:18

I think I would have jst laughed in her face.
Poor kid, I have a feeling she's going to get a short sharp shock in the next few years. Or at least I hope she does, otherwise she'll be a very lonely and unhappy adult.

TylerHopkins · 21/08/2013 15:18

I'm Angry just thinking about it. I would have been tempted to hit the mother with the bat. violence is not the answer but thinking about it helps

GrimmaTheNome · 21/08/2013 15:28

Of course YWNBU. The mother was totally out of order. The girl was too, but can't blame her if she's been brought up with that degree of self-centredness.

TylerHopkins · 21/08/2013 15:30

Was she called Chardonnay or Charmaine. This would have warned you what her mother was like instantly and you wouldn't have given her the bat & ball in the first place.

runningonwillpower · 21/08/2013 15:32

^^

That you Katie?

Yep you are right - this is a classic entitlement training scenario.

My response clearly suffering PMT today would have been: "So get your sorry ass over there and bring my DS ball back or give me the money right now to replace it and compensate me for my time in doing so. You are bad mannered and so is your brat - stay away from me and DS in the future"
Together with a loud "at least you have the manners to share your toys rather than being a precious spoilt brat, well done DS"

Or just minus PMT "really" with a raised eye brow

LynetteScavo · 21/08/2013 15:51

Bizarre. There are some really odd people out there.

OKnotOK · 21/08/2013 15:55

Holy.
Crap.

Cake

has no other words to add

expatinscotland · 21/08/2013 16:03

I'd have told the mother to go to fuck.

Morgause · 21/08/2013 16:05

Dreadful woman. When the child is a teen she may regret her early parenting ideas.

LazyMonkeyButler · 21/08/2013 16:07

Jesus, what an idiot (mother). Who the hell does she think she is? Shock

BrokenSunglasses · 21/08/2013 16:08

I find it hard to believe that people like that really exist, I have never come across anyone who would even begin to behave like that in real life.

MammaTJ · 21/08/2013 16:09

How did everyone else react?

MollyBerry · 21/08/2013 16:39

:o
What did the other parents say?

quesadilla · 21/08/2013 17:21

Yeah what sort of response did you get from the other parents?

I would have ordered the mum to buy a new one. What a shower...

Sirzy · 21/08/2013 17:23

What a stupid woman! (her not you!)

lottieandmia · 21/08/2013 17:24

YANBU at all!

But I think people like this are hopefully in the minority. If the mother is like that then no wonder the child has not learned how to treat other people with respect.

lottieandmia · 21/08/2013 17:26

I am getting sick of seeing people come on (loads!) of different threads saying 'I don't believe this'. It is happening an awful lot lately and it's not on.

If you don't believe it then why post? Troll hunting is not allowed.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 21/08/2013 17:34

YANBU.

DD1 has been at a bespoke bakery today at a cupcake decorating class. This was a present.

Entitled-brat central. "Why are you still *talking^ about cupcakes? Where are MY decorations - I've been sat here ages."

And "I DON'T want to even look at this crispy cake - move it now."

One boy refused to share decorations at all.

Lots of parents who just thought it was hilaaaaaaairous that they were bring so rude.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 21/08/2013 17:35

I bloody believe you OP
