Wet hair at work

When working in a professional role which involves working with people do you think it looks unprofessional to turn up to work with tied up but obviously wet hair?

Absolutely.

Suelford · 17/08/2013 12:10

As long as it wasn't dripping, I don't think I would care at all.

YouStayClassySanDiego · 17/08/2013 12:11

I don't think it looks particularly polished but as long as it doesn't affect the job they're doing I don't think it matters hugely in the scheme of things.

CuriosityCola · 17/08/2013 12:13

Preferable to up and washed than unwashed. I have a couple of friends who can only tie contain their hair when wet.

IslaValargeone · 17/08/2013 12:13

Yes.

VodkaRevelation · 17/08/2013 12:14

I often do this. I teach. It's dry by the time the children turn up.

Jovellanos · 17/08/2013 12:15

No; I think it's fine as long as it is a) combed and b) neatly tied back.

I often have wet hair at work first thing because I shower after my cycle ride in and there are no dryers. It dries quickly, no biggie

lifesgreatquestions · 17/08/2013 12:15

It will look like the person was unprepared, hadn't left themselves enough time to finish getting themselves together for the day. And that gives off a negative message to the customer, are they going to be like that with my project?

YouJustMetTheAlphaParent · 17/08/2013 12:16

Erm, wouldn't bother me in the slightest. I'm not a pernickety twat

Lj8893 · 17/08/2013 12:16

I never blowdry my hair, always leave it to dry naturally. That sometimes means I get to work with wet hair, but by the time I see any customers my hair is pretty much dry.

I would rather have wet hair than greasy hair. Yuk!

OddBoots · 17/08/2013 12:18

If it is neatly tied and not dripping then I don't see the problem but then I have long thick hair that takes hours to fully dry so maybe I'm biased.

Solari · 17/08/2013 12:18

Have never done it myself, but think it looks quite fresh and clean actually, as long as its combed and tied back, and not literally dripping water.

nomorecrumbs · 17/08/2013 12:18

If it's tied up, who cares?! I manage a team of marketing consultants and I wouldn't turn a hair if any of them turned up with wet hair in a bun or ponytail or whatever. The smile is the first thing the clients notice!

Solari · 17/08/2013 12:19

Should add also: as long as it is actually freshly-washed hair, and not slathers of wet-look gel!

nennypops · 17/08/2013 12:20

So long as it's not wet when you're meeting people from outside the company, I can't see the problem.

Cheesyslice · 17/08/2013 12:21

What lifesgreatquestions said. Just looks messy.

I'm not a pernickety twat, but I'm also not a lazy slob who can't be arsed to make an effort to look half decent when I turn up at the office

Letticetheslug · 17/08/2013 12:22

I have short fairly fine hair. I wash my hair in the morning shower and then just head out to work, it's usually dry by the time I get there. I can;t be bothered to blow dry it, but I have nice clean hair for work.

BadPoet · 17/08/2013 12:23

I do this all the time, particularly when it's hot - I just dry my fringe / the front, leave the rest damp and tie back in a bun/ with a clip. My hair is far more manageable when damp. Have to wash every day and don't have time to fully blow dry - honestly cant see that it matters.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/08/2013 12:23

Totally unprofessional looking.

Tuppenceinred · 17/08/2013 12:24

Depends on how professional the role is. If it's public-facing then I'd say not right. In an office with other staff then maybe OK. Thing is, I've always been pretty career minded, and part of that involved looking as if I was ready for the next step up at work all the time. Cynical as it might seem, I wanted my managers and higher up to look at me and see me in a higher role than I was currently. I think being at work with wet hair looks lazy and indicates a certain lack of - for want of a better word - respect. So if your boss's boss would come into work with wet hair maybe it's OK...

WilsonFrickett · 17/08/2013 12:25

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest, in my last job lots of people cycled but the hairdryers were rubbish in the change rooms, so I would probably just assume they'd cycled tbh.

My hair is wild when not tamed with a blow dryer so I wouldn't do it, but I don't think it looks unprofessional. I see it on the train a lot and all I think is that their hair is probably in better condition than mine!

Pozzled · 17/08/2013 12:33

Wow. I had no idea people judged others for having wet hair. I never use a hairdryer. I wouldn't notice or care about someone else having wet hair unless it was dripping.

ImNotBloody14 · 17/08/2013 12:34

"but think it looks quite fresh and clean actually, as long as its combed and tied back, and not literally dripping water."

^this.

wet hair combed neatly into a ponytail/bun looks very sleek and professional IMO- and is obviously freshly washed.
