Just butter for me, I am a plain girl. Sometimes though I will put some ham on it. But mostly just the butter will do :)

OP posts:
PipkinsPal · 17/08/2013 12:16

At the moment, homemade gooseberry jam. I do like pate on toast though.

BetsyBell · 17/08/2013 12:17

If it's a dense bread then my absolute favourite is butter, marmite, avocado, tomato, pepper & lemon/lime juice.

This morning I had fried egg, ham and spinach & pepper with a bit of plain yogurt instead of butter.

If thick white toast or granary and I want sweetness then lashings of butter and a smear of 3 fruit marmalade. Or honey.

Now I want some toast and marmalade.

NicholasTeakozy · 17/08/2013 12:26

I let it go cold then smear as much butter on as is possible.

thecook · 17/08/2013 12:54

Tinned mackeral in tomato sauce

dazzlingbrook · 17/08/2013 13:08

ketchup - just a bit on the side to dip in!

ThursdayLast · 17/08/2013 13:10

Always butter, but after that it varies...
Marmite
Peanut butter
Both acceptable with cheese on top.
Pâté if we have some in the house
MIL homemade blackcurrant jam when I'm in the mood
I also use Bovril as a spread

I am hungover today and my morning toast saved me

ouryve · 17/08/2013 13:11

Depends.

Butter and Marmite.
Butter and Honey
Home made jam.
Peanut butter
Houmous and cucumber

ouryve · 17/08/2013 13:18

oh yes - forgot about pate - don't buy it very often, now, as I've become too adept at reading ingredients lists and those on pate, even the expensive stuff, are always scary.

And sardines in tomato sauce. Sainsbobs sell skinless and boneless ones, which are most excellent.

Wallison · 17/08/2013 13:19

Dijon mustard, then ham, then cheese, then grill it.

Cheese and Worcestershire sauce then grill it.

Dijon mustard, then cheese, then coleslaw (not grilled).

Marmite.

Marmite and cheese.

Or just some St Agur on its own.

Yes, I love my cheese.

Also, butter, marmite, beans then cheese. Sometimes an egg between the beans and cheese. NB this also works really well with potato waffles.

I also do the savoury then sweet thing sometimes too.

Toast is ace!

EllaFitzgerald · 17/08/2013 13:21

Sardines in tomato sauce, no butter. Lush!

chesterberry · 18/08/2013 16:59

Oh goodness, so many options! I love love love toast. For me it largely depends on what kind of bread I am using and whether I want it to be sweet or savoury.

butter
butter and jam
peanut butter and jam
butter and marmalade
cheese and herbs (grilled)
tomato paste and cheese (grilled)
mango chutney and cheese (grilled)
butter and cheese (not grilled)
peanut butter
chocolate spread
chocolate spread and jam
peanut butter, chocolate spread and jam
chocolate spread and lemon curd
butter and lemon curd
lotus caramelised biscuit spread
butter and honey
veggie sausages and cheese
beans and cheese
spiced chickpea pate

HHH3 · 18/08/2013 17:02

Usually marmite for me and DS1. DS2 is too young for marmite so he is just trying some cashew butter. So far it seems to be a hit Grin

nannyafrica · 18/08/2013 17:07

Marmite with avocado on top, yummy :)

forevergreek · 18/08/2013 17:10

Marmite and butter
Or
Cheddar and beetroot

Mintyy · 18/08/2013 17:14

A tip for toast lovers:

Cut a thick slice from a loaf of bread (as always with toast, white is best for this Sad), butter it generously and stick it under the grill.

The toast magically smells of bacon while grilling and when done its a bit like a cross between toast and fried bread.

Yummy Grin

SueDoku · 18/08/2013 17:14

Butter and Bovril - the ultimate comfort food for me and both my DC... (note: Marmite just will not do, it has to be Bovril Smile)

If I'm in the mood for something sweet, then butter and grapefruit marmalade (which Rose's have stopped making 'Because there was no demand' - bastards..! I'm on the last of the 6 jars that DS managed to get from Home Bargains )

Callaird · 18/08/2013 17:15

Butter
Butter and marmite
Butter and peanut butter (there is NO butter in peanut butter!)
Butter and ketchup (when hung over)
Butter and poached eggs (fresh from our chickens, delicious)
Butter, coarse pâté and sweet chilli or caramelised onion chutney
Laughing cow cheese spread with or without marmite
Ketchup, oregano, tomato slices and thick mature cheese and grilled
And tea tonight cheese, beans and poached egg on top.

I love toast and bread in any form!

McNewPants2013 · 18/08/2013 17:17

1/2 tin of ravioli with grated cathedral city mature cheese.

Marmite with scrambled egg

Poached egg

usualsuspect · 18/08/2013 17:19

Butter and marmite,or cheese spread or just cheese.

McNewPants2013 · 18/08/2013 17:19

That's with anchor spreadable

Sokmonsta · 18/08/2013 18:21

Marshmallow fluff
Peanut butter (crunchy) and then popped under the grill so the peanut butter gets warm.
Philadelphia
Thick marmite. Very thick!
Chocolate spread.

That's about it really. Not with butter.

If I get a cheese topped load from the bakers ill have that toasted with just butter. But it has to be done while the toast is hot.

gordyslovesheep · 18/08/2013 18:24

salted butter - on cold toast

justmakingdo · 18/08/2013 18:26

Only have butter if having Marmite as it doesn't spread otherwise!
Jam
Pate
Mashed avocado
mashed hot soft boiled egg with loads of black pepper

manchestermummy · 18/08/2013 19:58

Butter
Peanut butter
Nutella (or generic hazelnut chocolate spread equivalent)
Tomato puree mixed with oregano with grated cheese on top and grilled
Pate
Houmous

Jackanory1978 · 18/08/2013 20:06

Peanut butter; yummy yummy yum! Could eat spoonfuls of the stuff. (has to be smooth not crunchy)
