To wear flats and a mid length dress?

I know this isn't really AIBU but Style and Beauty annoys the shit out of me. I have a dress I love and which looks really nice on..very, very flattering but it's mid length! It falls kind of mid calf...I just can't wear heels due to a very painful foot issue...can Iwear it? I am a 12...5.6 so not tall really.

I never wear heels, I'm sure it's fine! What sort of style is it? Unless it's a very formal dress I wouldn't worry.

thebody · 15/08/2013 23:23

why the fuck would you care. sure you look fabulous and wear what you like.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 15/08/2013 23:24

Well of course I care! I don't want to look shit! I should have said..it's a special occasion I'm planning for.

I ser people wearing those past the knee tight dresses with Converse so don't see why not

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 15/08/2013 23:25

intheshed not formal no...it's just a nice dress, a tad floaty but fitted where it matters.

Flats and a mid length dress sound lovely together. I think you should go for it.

thebody · 15/08/2013 23:33

no you daft bat I mean why would you care that its mid length with heels.

sounds great to me.

Fourwillies · 15/08/2013 23:48

Depends on your ankles. If you've got chunky ankles and wear flats with a dress that cuts you off at the fattest part of your leg, it'll look like you were wearing heels when you got dressed but swapped them for your "travel home" shoes. Sorry!

tethersend · 15/08/2013 23:51

Flats are always ok- I do not believe in causing yourself physical pain to look nice. However, some flats will look good and some will look shite.

What's the dress like? Have you got a link?

MrsCocoa · 15/08/2013 23:55

Flats sound absolutely fine - can you match the style with mood of dress? If frock is floaty a pair of nude ballet flats might look the business?

Lj8893 · 15/08/2013 23:57

Yep, depends on the kind of flats you go for!

Some flats look good with certain dresses, others look better with other dresses.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 16/08/2013 11:39

ooh MrsCocoa that's it! That's what I need! I'm so crap at shoe shopping I always buy weird or ugly shoes....I knew I needed something tan or similar but nude ballet flats will look ace!

I don't have a link for the dress because my sister gave it to me and I'm not sure when she got it...i

Hhhmmm. I'm never convinced by ballet flats and skirts/dresses tbh. I'd go for a flat sandal, flip flop or a trainer/pump personally.

pianodoodle · 16/08/2013 11:47

I was at a wedding last week and wore ballet pumps with a mid-length dress looked fine.

Can't be doing with heels all day long!

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 16/08/2013 11:48

Girl I was looking at sandals and flip flops but it's a restaurant that we're going to...quite a nice one...I do love a flip flop though....what about a smart one? I can't find ANY sandals with a little heel...not that fit my size 7 flippers. I have nice ankles by the way so that's not an issue.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 16/08/2013 11:48

I find that ballet flats flatter me if I get ones that are cut low on the foot.

pianodoodle · 16/08/2013 11:48

Some people had nice sandals. I was going to but my feet aren't fit for public viewing...

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 16/08/2013 11:49

Also...if I wear navy dress with big white pattern, (sounds dodgy but it's gorgeous) and nude shoes...what bag do I need?

OP posts:
thebody · 16/08/2013 11:51

debenhams have lovely dressy flip flop type shoes.

could you do a small wedge?

thebody · 16/08/2013 11:53

the bigger the bag the more muted the colour should be I think. is it a clutch bag or do you need a bigger one.

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 16/08/2013 11:54

thebody yes...I can but I've not been able to locate any online...not in my size...I will go to Debenhams this week! I need to buy a bag....shall I get a nude one if I get nude shoes?

If the dress is floaty why not try some very clunky (can't think of the right word - tough looking) ankle boots, biker type.

CSIJanner · 16/08/2013 11:59

I don't know if this heeled sandal is too much for you? It is essentially a flat sandal with a platform on the bottom. A good?

tethersend · 16/08/2013 12:05

If you're going to a restaurant, your feet will be under the table. Wear whatever the fuck you like Grin

CSIJanner · 16/08/2013 12:05

Or this ballet pump. In the sale as well Grin
