to want the nursery to change dd's nappy frequently?

DD is 13 months and is about to finish her second week of nursery. I've been building up her hours really gradually and this week she has started to settle in nicely - no crying when I leave her, going for a nap, eating her lunch etc.
Today she was in from 11am - 4pm. She had an immunisation app at 10.30am. When I picked her up she was playing happily. When we got home I realised that her nappy seemed bulky. I was so shocked and disappointed to find that she was in the same nappy that I'd sent her in wearing!
It wasn't dirty, just wet. I know it was def the same nappy because the nappies that I handed in to the nursery for her use are Pampers, but at home I'm using unusual supermarket pull-ups. She's been in for shorter days and come home in a different nappy. She is my pfb - am I being over the top? Should I mention it? I do not want to piss them off. Maybe they'd checked and it was dry then? WWYD?

Yes I would mention it.

flossy101 · 15/08/2013 19:29

At my sons nursery they change his nappy 3 times on a full day, more of they know he has soiled it. He is 13 months. They write all his nappy changes in his record sheet which they give me to take home every day.

Do you not get given daily records?

Groovee · 15/08/2013 19:44

She should have been changed at lunch time then snack time if it was me! I'd definitely bring it up.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 15/08/2013 19:46

dd2's nursery changes nappies at 2 hourly intervals, and in between if needed.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/08/2013 19:47

thought nurseries have to change very 3hrs or so, and you are meant to have a record of when they change and if wet or poo

thebody · 15/08/2013 19:50

yep ex cm here. change as necessary but generally change every 3 hours.

I suspect the immunisation visit perhaps messed up their records/routine but still not on really.

maja00 · 15/08/2013 19:51

I'd ask them if they change to a schedule. DS's nursery used to do mid-morning and mid-afternoon (so 10.30 and 2.30ish) and then as and when they pooed - more than I would do at home tbh!

jumpingpillows · 15/08/2013 19:51

yes

SaucyJack · 15/08/2013 20:02

YANBU to want to raise the issue.

2 hourly changes is excessive for the average child tho. Modern disposibles really don't need it.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 15/08/2013 20:16

I'm surprised they didn't notice! YANBU, she should not have been left in the nappy for that long.

jumpingpillows · 15/08/2013 20:17

Oh shit sorry I meant no yanbu

sarahtigh · 15/08/2013 20:25

most nappies advertise that they are fine for 12 hours overnight without the baby feeling wet so I would imagine your child does not feel wet in the slightest though nappy bulky, however you should check policy

I never changed every 2 hours when I was SAHM; would change as soon as possible if dirty but not if wet the whole point of a nappy is that they absorb urine without it touching skin, they can absorb an awful lot

as a one off I would not be overly concerned if you suspect they are not checking I would be

lljkk · 15/08/2013 20:39

That's weird. DS nursery changed every 2.5 hours like clockwork which I recall as absurdly frequent. He was in cloth nappies for a spell & sometimes they came home bone dry!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 15/08/2013 20:53

DS's nursery change nappies every three hours. I feel like we're constantly buying nappies.

YANBU though.

WrongendoftheSTIX · 15/08/2013 21:17

My dd's nursery change nappies at 2 hourly intervals. I'd definitely mention it!

maja00 · 15/08/2013 21:22

2 hourly changes is ridiculous! What's the environmental impact of that? Some poor staff member must spend their entire day changing dry, clean nappies.

honeytea · 15/08/2013 21:29

Could it be that she had been saving up her wee and did a big wee just before she went home or on the way home? Ds does this, his nappy goes from dry to huge and bulky with just one wee sometimes.

Ds is often in a nappy for 5 hours, I am probably not doing things right but I thought if the baby isn't wet and there is no nappy rash then I can't really see the point of changing his nappy, how often are you supposed to change them?

gail734 · 15/08/2013 22:01

honeytea Your post really sums up my feelings - how often do other people change a baby's nappy? I've always changed quite frequently - maybe every three hours. Dd used to be a "dribbler", doing little pees all the time, now she's bigger and I think she is doing one big pee.
The nursery is very posh and expensive, but the nursery nurses in the baby room are just girls. No way do they have any kids of their own, but should that matter?
Dd will have her overnight nappy on for ten hours and it doesn't bother me, although for about her first eight weeks or so I used to change her in the middle of the night!

Exact same thing happened with ds when he was in nursery. I mentioned it cos I would've worried otherwise. It was an oversight. Hopefully a one off blip.

Mention it but do it matter of fact. I just asked straight what their nappy change 'policy' was and why I was asking. They were v apologetic & didn't happen again.

maja00 · 15/08/2013 22:06

I wouldn't change a wet disposable nappy unless properly wet, not 3 hourly. When I used reusables they had to be changed every 3 hours as they are less absorbent.

Nurseries usually change more frequently than you would at home though.

If she came in after the morning change, wasn't wet at lunch time and then was napping when they did afternoon changes maybe she got overlooked this time.

rootatoot · 15/08/2013 22:06

Oh and it was baby room manager I spoke to, not nursery nurse. As I say, didn't do it as in making a complaint but just say it straight. It'll be fine. No harm done.

Panzee · 15/08/2013 22:08

I change before each feed, and if it looks big.

mumofweeboys · 15/08/2013 22:11

My nursery writen on his daily record when he was checked and then if he was changed. They roughly check every 3 hours. If your not happy say something.

PastaBeeandCheese · 15/08/2013 22:12

YANBU. This isn't on. DD has her nappy changed every 2.5 hours at nursery. It's too frequent in my view but fortunately they provide the nappies. It's all noted down on her chart.

FannyMcNally · 15/08/2013 22:21

Unless it happens frequently I wouldn't mention it. And anyone who changes a nappy for no reason, why???
