To tell you that asda school polo shirts are crap

School started on tuesday. Tuesdays polo shirt was tumble dried and shrunk vertically by 2 inches. Thought it must be me as my tumble drier is quite hot. Dried yesterdays on the rack and it has shrunk by about 1 1/2 inches.

Great. They both look crap now. I have others obviously but they are all adsa so will all be the same. Are tesco any good? Am kind of limited to shops here.

So far I've been through M&S, Debenhams, Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys all rubbish. Asda were the best of the bunch. I haven't tried BHS or John Lewis yet, they might be better.

HappyMummyOfOne · 15/08/2013 08:19

Adama were the best ones I have had used but we had Asda ones last term and they were fine. Washed on a 40 degree wash and i dont tumble dry anything.

Groovee · 15/08/2013 08:20

I find M&S keep the colour better but tesco's wash well.

Fruitnut · 15/08/2013 08:22

I always buy them from Matalan. They keep their shape and last all year.

TheTurdsOfMisery · 15/08/2013 08:23

I recommend Primark. Bought my son 6 from Primark in Y7 - slightly too big but he likes them like that - they were still going strong when he left school. And in fact they're still alive 6 years later and being used as night wear!

Runningchick123 · 15/08/2013 08:24

I've had asda ones in the past and they have been fine, albeit, all the supermarket ones are a bit rough in texture and are more difficult to iron. I find the school logo polo shirts are usually much better quality as they contain trutex and are easy to iron but obviously they also cost a lot more.

Wonderstuff · 15/08/2013 08:24

All DDs shrunk, which combined with the low cut trousers they make for girls resulted in her getting a sore back. So she went in pinafores, which covered the polo shirt length.

witchface · 15/08/2013 08:27

Well dd does have a pinafore so I might just leave it. Is annoying though.

We haven't had any problems with Asda polo shirts as of yet.x

NeoMaxiZoomDweebie · 15/08/2013 08:46

YANBU they are awful! My Mum keeps buying them for my DC and I've told her not to as they get a week's wear out of them and my house is filled with them! I turn them into dusters! But she says "Oh but they're so cheap!"

Hmm
PomBearWithAnOFRS · 16/08/2013 00:42

I just bought age 8-9 for my 6 year old, 11-12 for my 8 year old, and 14-15 for my 10 year old. Same with the cardigans and sweatshirts, although with the sweatshirts I think I went a size bigger again - they are minute.

Weegiemum · 16/08/2013 00:45

My dc went back on Wednesday. Dd2's cardi already has a rip (button edge separated from front) by tonight. Asdas best!

crazykat · 16/08/2013 00:48

I've found they shrink a bit but only after washing them loads, but I find most clothes shrink eventually. I did find they shrunk in the dryer so I've never rumble dried them again and they've been fine for at least half the school year which is longer than any others.

Pancakeflipper · 16/08/2013 00:53

John Lewis are the softest after umpteen washes but I need to 'whiten' them as they seem to grey out quick. But I have a child who rolls in dirt daily.

CookieLady · 16/08/2013 03:09

Another vote for John Lewis ones. Used to buy M&S polo shirts but won't be any more.

LeonardWentToTheOffice · 16/08/2013 03:30

I've always been happy with asda - ds's last lot have been on the go for the last year and still fine - I don't boil the hell out of them or tumble though. I find Next ones fade and look grotty quite soon (pale blue for us)
I've only had to retire them as have the next size up waiting and it's his last year. I wash on a 40 degree extra quick delicate wash. Always clean :-)

LeonardWentToTheOffice · 16/08/2013 03:32

Whites also ok and they go on a bit longer 40 wash (wears for pe)

ravenAK · 16/08/2013 03:41

I just 'size up' by at least a couple of years & buy from whichever supermarket I happen to be in. If they turn out to be ridiculously large they just go into the giant drawer of schoolwear yet to be grown into (I have a catalogue queen mate with a dd a few years older than my lot who passes on stuff).

I wash them at 60 along with the rest of the pale stuff, but don't own a tumble dryer - it's all pegged out except when it's on radiators.

What is this ironing of which some of you speak? We'll have none of that here...Wink.

blanketyblank1 · 16/08/2013 06:07

Well have just put my ds's new asda sweatshirts through a quick wash just to get rid of the "shop smell" he doesn't like and already they look smaller and he hasn't even worn them yet! I hung them out as I always think the tumble drier shrinks them but it doesn't seem to have made any difference!
On a different note I ordered them online as it said free delivery on any school uniform orders over £20. As I reached the check out stage it still hadn't taken off the delivery charge. Rang their customer services ( in Cape Town!) and was assured that the full amount would not be taken out of my bank account. Did I really expect that to happen? Following me sending an email saying they had still charged me delivery I received an E voucher for £3 which I could spend on future online purchases. What? I hardly call that free delivery when I am being obliged to spend this voucher on Asda online and I have no need to order anything else. Very misleading methinks.
Has this happened to anyone else?

ILoveNoodles · 16/08/2013 06:08

Bring them back. I've just seen an advert you get 100 days Smile Smile

ILoveNoodles · 16/08/2013 06:10

And yes I find Asda delivery on anything pretty crap I don't really use it any more.

HorseyGirl1 · 16/08/2013 06:33

Hmmm, call me cynical but there's an advert for polo shirts on the right of this page!! Narrows eyes and asks - Who are you Witchface, MD of polo-shirts.com?? ha ha! Just in passing has anyone tried them?

dawnpreview · 16/08/2013 06:38

I find that if I iron the polo tops I can then stretch them out again to their normal size! Stretch them while they are warm from the iron.

witchface · 16/08/2013 08:14

Dawnpreview after moaning to my mum she has also told me to iron them to stretch them so will try that this morning.

As an aside her m&s pinafore has gone up a little bit too. Am now beginning to wonder if all clothes shrink and i just don't have doubles to compare them with. Am doing the washes at 40 so it's not that!

treaclesoda · 16/08/2013 08:24

my dd hates her Asda polo shirts because the fabric is so scratchy. They kept their shape not too badly, but they were really rigid, and no amount of fabric softener helped.

I now buy them from Dunnes (Ireland's answer to M&S) and they're much better. Matalan ones were good too.

I hate Asda clothes anyway. Have only ever bought kids stuff but everything I have ever bought, everything, has shrunk in length and stretched in width. Awful shape.
