Following on from ProudAs's wonderful fictional parents thread I am dying to know what some of the novels, plays and films that I don't recognise are.

Having stayed up far too late last night trying to work some of them out, I thought I'd start a 'solutions' thread separately as not to spoil the original. (Hope you don't mind ProudAS!).

I invite you to put me out of my misery! I managed to get a decent English Lit degree but clearly learnt nothing...!

To get things going, mine are easy, but are:

Mine were the Bible story of Joseph and the coat of many colors, the Bible story of Ruth and Naomi, King Lear, and The Grey King.

Then Dianna Wynne Jones:

I love DWJ pointythings and recently re-read The Time of the Ghost. It's fantastic, really creepy. She was so good at adolescents...

pointythings of course I got your time of the ghost (although did you poss get the number of sisters wrong? Since it was based on her childhood I thought there were just 3). Did you get my fire and hemlock?
