to be chuffed at my charity shop find today?

I went into one of my local charity shops not really expecting anything. Anyway, there sitting looking at me are a pair of pink, high-top converse in my size, looking hardly worn (I think they are actually new) for £7.99. I have been coveting a pair of pink converse for ages and looked on ebay and new pairs are going for £40+. Am so happy, feels serendipitous.

What are your amazing charity shop finds?

I don't really understand these finds - the Louboutins for example, surely the kind hearted soul who dropped them off would have pointed out their worth?

Or ebayed them and donated the (much higher) price to charity?

ophelia275 · 12/08/2013 15:11

I've just thought of another one from a few months ago. 4x Polarn O Pyret kids tops that cost £19 each new for 75p each in bargain bin.

eBay isn't worth the hassle sometimes. Much easier to drop stuff off at the charity shop. Smile

Our local charity shop had a few Radley bags in over the last few months, every one of them has been a very very poor fake. The shop know as they are all priced around £2 - £3 but I have to admit I was a bit shocked that they didn't just bin them.

The nearest one to me tends to eBay a lot of their things if they think they can do well out of them. They often have Doulton figures and genuine Radley bags for auction. I understand completely why they do it, but it does take some of the excitement out of that particular shop because you know when you walk through the door you aren't going to be finding anything special really.

A rare Johnny Cash vinyl for 99p!! It's now proudly displayed on my bedroom wall :)

SueDoku · 12/08/2013 15:21

Went to our local Carnival last year and bought a Playmobile pirate ship for £5 for DGC -- DS was very miffed because he'd always wanted one and we could never have afforded anything so expensive when he was small (he's now 39..!).

I told him that GC are for spoiling (he agreed - but said he isn't ready to share his Star Wars AtAt - that's in my attic - just yet.....) Grin Grin

A Burberry black label bag. Cost me 6.99 I sold it on flea bay for 140. I did go back into the shop after that week and give a large donation as I felt a little guilty.

I wanted some Converse last Christmas after having DD and giving up on any kind of heel.

DBro was going to get them for me but they were a bit too much even on Ebay so I decided not to bother.

Then went into a charity shop I frequent and saw some Red ones for a fiver, I was so chuffed!

Lilacroses · 12/08/2013 15:39

Nothing incredibly valulable but tons of lovely clothes, Monsoon, Boden, Karen Millen. For my Dd a brand new Zara dress for £2. Fantastic!

MagratOfStolat · 12/08/2013 16:01

I was in my local city looking for a rucksack, found a gorgeous one in TK Maxx that was brown leather with owls on it and gold detail, but it was £29! I thought about it but walked away.

Cut to me going to all the different charity shops on the way to the train station. A woman follows me into the shop with a bag of stuff that her sister doesn't want - same bag there!! I got it for £2.50 because it was missing a buckle. I was so chuffed!!

Lilicat1013 · 12/08/2013 16:14

I had been looking up vTech shape sorter rockets on eBay for my youngest son for Christmas. I meant to get one for my oldest when he was little but never did and now they aren't made any more.

The eBay ones tend to get quite expensive for a second hand toy and the postage is high too as they are a largish toy. I found out in my local charity shop for £4 on Friday, in perfect condition.

My other best find was when I was pregnant with my older son, I had my second scan and at 12 weeks and it was kind of a negative experience, the woman doing it was a bitch and I was too paranoid to say anything in case she didn't check the baby properly (still regret not putting in a complaint).

My husband and I walked back in to town afterwards, money was low and we couldn't afford a bus or taxi. We decided to pop in to a charity shop we walked past impulsively and I found the sweetest little red and white striped babygro, new with tags for £1.

It was no special brand name but it was just lovely, it suited him perfectly and seemed to fit in to it forever. I still have it upstairs, it is my favourite of his baby clothes.

kungfupannda · 12/08/2013 16:21

I went to a carboot sale at the weekend and got a Mr and Mrs Potato Head with all their accessories for the grand total of £1, and an old-fashioned wooden bagatelle game for a fiver - the modern version sells for £50 on Amazon.

I was smug.

Lutrine · 12/08/2013 17:11

Motorbike leathers looking almost brand new, £20 jacket, £5 boots, £5 matching rucksack. The stuff was all in my size and favourite colours, it was just a shame the £10 trousers wouldn't go past my hips!

oldham70 · 12/08/2013 17:18

I did the opposite. Found a shampoo and conditional in a box on a charity stall for £1.75. Later found same ib poundland!

DamnDeDoubtance · 12/08/2013 17:20

I have had some amazing finds in charity shops, I get almost all my clothes second hand and have stumbled across some absolute bargains.

I love getting stuff home and giving it a bit of tlc. Latest bargain was a gorgeous Monsoon wrap dress.

oldham70 · 12/08/2013 17:21

O i did get a box of duplo for £3 though. Think it was worth about £20 in the shops.

SixPackWellies · 12/08/2013 17:27

I love a good charity shop find.

Recently - A full length Burberry ladies trench, as good as new, £15.00.

A black velvet jacket with mandarin collar, and silver embroider trim that I always get compliments on - £7

Some years ago (15 maybe) I found a handmade navy blue bespoke 'opera cape' with navy blue ribbon trim, and REAL seed pearls which I bought for £60.00 and then last year sold on ebay for nearly £700.

foslady · 12/08/2013 22:12

After dd was born I had so few clothes I fitted into and no money ('d'p - now xh!) was tight with money but made me feel it was my fault I couldn't budget better so I never dare ask for any more. I went into a local charity shop and there hanging up for the princely sum of £3.50/pair was 2 pairs of designer jeans - I forget which brand now bit remember they were £90's worth! Not only that but they had been shortened to my little legs length! I wore them until they fell apart and believe that someone 'up there' wanted me to find them thanks nannan and granddad, I'm sure it was you!

bearleftmonkeyright · 12/08/2013 22:21

A pair of green leather Josef Siebel boots I bought in January for £3 kept my toes lovely and warm.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 12/08/2013 22:26

Brought an old (and very dirty) Parker fountain pen at a boot sale yesterday for £1. Definitely worth a punt for that money (love pens in general, have a thing for old Parkers). Same pen went on Ebay yesterday evening for over £40. I'm not selling mine though, as after a good clean it looks mint and writes beautifully!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 12/08/2013 22:32

I also picked up a boxed Nerf electronic target yesterday too . RRP £29.99, is down to £14.99 at Argos, but I was still too tight to shell out for one ;-) Got this one home, opened box, and it was still in the original wrapping inside the box, with both guns still in their bags too. A steal at £2.

WandrinStar · 12/08/2013 22:41

Today in one of the local chazzies I found a beautiful Salvatore Ferragamo scarf with a print of jungle animals.

A quick Google reveals it to be worth a good couple of hundred quid.

It came home with me for the princely sum of £2.

ChillieJeanie · 12/08/2013 22:45

I found an Austin Reed jacket for £10 in one of my local charity shops - minimum on their website for current jackets is £159 so that's definitely a bargain! I also found an M&S trench style coat in a fabulous turquoise colour in the same place. It was more expensive in there than the Austin Reed jacket, oddly. I never saw those new though, so I don't know what it would have cost but I absolutely love it.

sparklechops · 12/08/2013 22:59

I got a lovely Banana Republic top for a fiver. I reckon it would have been fifty quid new.

I also found a Beatrix Potter musical book for DD at the same time. It was in perfect condition too - until she promptly chucked it on the floor as we left the shop and the corner ripped off....

SisterMatic · 12/08/2013 23:01
