To wonder why people have twitter and FB accounts for their pets or toddlers??

I have a friend who has her own FB and twitter as well as one each for her dog, cat, unborn child and 2 year old.

I can semi understand the 2 year-old one if it was for family and filled with recent photos instead of constantly filling up her own feed. But I've had a friend request off her dog and cat. This was a couple of days ago. This morning I've woken up to a PM saying "said cat and dog are upset that I've not added them "

I think rather than friending (is that a word?) the dog and cat I would be defriending her! Or send a message back saying "I am sure they can cope considering I very much doubt their ability to read or type anyway"

BlueberryCream · 12/08/2013 11:26

I've just ignored it. DH's answer to it was 'You certainly know how to pick them (friends).' I don't know weather to laugh or take that as an insult lol!

Why? Because some people have faaaaaar too much time on their hands!

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/08/2013 11:29

My friend has one for his cat as people kept asking him about it. Started as a joke but cat does update occasionally (talented animal), especially if he's caught a particularly magnificent mouse.

I have one for my dog Blush

In my defence, he didn't add any friends, he just waits for people to add him and it is where I put all my photos of him so that my facebook isn't littered with annoying pet pics!

I fully appreciate that this is mental behaviour and feep free to publicly humiliate me...although i've probably humiliated myself enough by announcing on a public forum that I have a fb account for my dog!

If it makes it any better, my DH set up a twitter account for the dog too, and he has more twitter followers than me and DH combined! Actually scratch that...it in no way makes it any better...in fact it probably makes you fear for our poor DS being born into such ridiculousness.

I think I really need a new hobby/life!

Glad i'm not alone MrsWolowitz Grin

think its just fun if a little eccentric.

the book about the Downing Street cat was funny so can be lighthearted.

BlueberryCream · 12/08/2013 11:40

I suppose it's a case of each to their own :) Tbh I think my thread is more aimed at why she would send me a pm about it. She knows I potter about on there when kids aren't here - so knows I'm online and would add if I wanted too.

Was the PM a joke? To be honest even if it is, it's a bit much! Taking it's one step too far I think!

BlueberryCream · 12/08/2013 11:51

I don't think it was a joke. She's one of those who idolises on her pets - which is great but she does take it too far sometimes. She once kicked her other half out of bed so that the dog had enough room on the bed. Seriously - no joke. She posted a pic of him asleep on the couch downstairs with the caption "Isn't OH great sleeping downstairs for Mamma's baby to have more room!" She treats them like kids and talks to them in a babyish voice too. She's mad lol

Oh jesus....that's extreme! I love my dog hugely, but she sounds like crazy with a capital C!

mrsjay · 12/08/2013 11:56

somebody wants me to set up apage for my dogBlush he is very naughty and folk think he is hilarious when i moan about him on fb Grin I suppose it is a bit of fun and nobody is being harmed by a silly page about a dog cat hamster pig toddler unborn baby I dont think it is a huge deal, i am friends with 3 chimps an orang and a pig,

KirjavaTheCat · 12/08/2013 12:06

Yabu! I have one for my cat as he's a maniacal genius.

He has more friends than me and gets more likes on his statuses (read: diary entries on his latest evil escapades).

His profile picture is a picture of him I took in the dark with a flash, caught just as he was yawning. He has bright green eyes and looks terrifying. Grin

I've given DS(16mo) his own FB page so it's easier foreveryone to see photos of him, without me having to let DH's see my own feed. Pets and unborn babies confuse me though.

GhostsInSnow · 12/08/2013 12:27

I had one for my late dog. There was a reason!

Jack was an 8 year old Scottie dog who was very much a huge character and loved by my family and friends alike. He became quite ill quite suddenly and an exploratory operation revealed he had an incurable, degenerative liver disease caused by an illness he'd been born with - Copper Storage Syndrome. The vet said we could take him home where he'd pass away peacefully within the week. I'm a stubborn sort and Jack was my life so I wasn't going to give up that easily. I researched everything I could and devised a 'liver' diet of home cooked meals and vitamins etc

All my friends were constantly asking 'hows Jack' and it began to clog my timeline. I appreciated that whilst Jack had a huge fan club there were bound to be friends who were a bit sick of the updates so we created his own Facebook and anyone who wanted to keep up with his progress followed it.

2 months after the week the vet gave him to live he was bounding along the beach in Wales having a great time. He fought and fought and carried on living life to the full for a further nine months before one morning he collapsed and we had to let him go.

Still miss him, still have tears in my eyes typing this out. He was a dog in a million and was so much of a huge character with everyone who met him I actually had flowers and cards from friends and family when he died.
Sad

Doodledumdums · 12/08/2013 12:53

Charlie Jack sounds amazing! Well done you for defying what the vet said. 9 months is a huge difference from one week! He was lucky to have you Smile

GhostsInSnow · 12/08/2013 13:10

Thanks Doodle. I was fortunate that as a SAHM I could dedicate the time to him. DH used to joke that Jack ate better than him as he'd have white fish in parsley with potatoes and asparagus because all were good for liver problems. Funny how these little animals can take over your life.

Some good came from it though, our vet took on board a lot of the holistic treatment I'd used such as Milk Thistle and as she could see the test results improving and stabilising she now uses Jack as an example to other dogs with similar issues and recommends the home care we used. We were lucky to have a great, supportive vet all through it.

GhostsInSnow · 12/08/2013 13:12

Have added a pic of Jack to my profile Smile

Doodledumdums · 12/08/2013 20:29

He's gorgeous Charlie, I love Scotties, beautiful little dogs. That is really good that something positive has come out of his passing, hopefully more owners can have more time with their pets if they do what you did Smile

WestieMamma · 12/08/2013 22:37

My dog has a facebook account. How else would he keep in touch with all his canine and feline cousins? Confused

Jubelteen · 12/08/2013 22:49

I actually follow a rescue dog on FB, he his daft owners post updates about what he's been up to, and cute pics which make me smile. I really dislike pages for unborn children and dead people though, although I realise people get a lot of comfort from them, but I find it weird - dogs not weird??!!

littlemog · 12/08/2013 22:51

Oh such lovely story about Jack. Well done you for giving him such a wonderful life.
