To think the Lelli Kelly buy a school shoe, get a make up kit is outrageous?

Pretty shocked to see primary school aged kids prancing about on telly with sparkly school shoe tat + hideous pink make up kits that come FREE with them. DD is 4.5 and about to start school in Sept. How long before I have to endure requests for silly products like this? And why do little girls need lip gloss kits? pour a stiff drink

I agree with you, but there again I think lelli kelly things look horrendous - makes me pleased I have a boy!

LegoAcupuncture · 10/08/2013 19:13

Did you not like to wear make up when you were little then? I can remember getting Tinkerbelle makeup as a child loved it, it's harmless fun.

bearleftmonkeyright · 10/08/2013 19:13

Yanbu, they have even whitened the teeth of the little girls in the advert.

nokidshere · 10/08/2013 19:13

Unless you send your daughter to the shop to buy her own shoes it wont make any difference since presumably she wont be getting them?

Just say no Grin

bearleftmonkeyright · 10/08/2013 19:15

Loving Legoacupunctures name Grin

ouryve · 10/08/2013 19:17

I couldn't help but notice the teeth in the advert. How old are these girls supposed to be? Because I know no 5-9 year old with a perfectly straight set of adult looking teeth with no gaps.

LazyMonkeyButler · 10/08/2013 19:20

Do Lelly Kelly make school shoes now then? I thought they only did sparkly party shoe type things.

A bit of lip gloss with a sparkly party shoe is not that bad, with a school shoe is much more inappropriate.

LynetteScavo · 10/08/2013 19:28

LeliKelly have been selling sparkly shoes (and school shoes) with a lip gloss gift for years. (DD really liked the lip gloss, and it hasn't damaged her or made her girly in anyway. I wouldn't buy their shoes as shcool shoes in a month of Sundays though)

Clarks sell shoes with toys in the heel (well they did last time I looked). Startrite give you a cuddly toy if you boy on line. Previously they have given books.

Some companies are more...wholesome than others.

I constantly endure request for silly products from both my male and female DC.

thebody · 10/08/2013 19:32

think shocked is a bit ott.

I remember getting girls mags in the 70s with lip gloss in them. so what really.

Ericaequites · 10/08/2013 19:34

For American child beauty pageants, one can buy custom flippers that fit over scaggy teeth like partial dentures. I don't approve, but it's done. My teeth are still different shades of pale. Bleaching can damage teeth.

LynetteScavo · 10/08/2013 19:39

And TBH, I am no more shocked by primary school kids prancing about singing about shoes and lip gloss than I am someone needing a stiff drink after watching an advert.

raisah · 10/08/2013 19:48

My dd asked for a pair of Lelikelly shoes but she is 2 so I can fob her off for a bit longer. The ads are cringeworthy, really sickly sweet high pitched girly voices with beauty pageant queens prancing around. Just awful and shockingly my ds asked for a pair of sparkly ones! He is 4.

LynetteScavo · 10/08/2013 19:55

It's not shocking that your 4yo DS asked for sparkly shoes, raisah, these marketing people know what they are doing.

It's no more shocking for a boy to ask for these shoes, than a girl, surely?

Although boys do become very aware of they type of marketing going on. My boys, when 7 & 11, used to cover their eyes and shout "Arrhhh, don't look, don't look!" When the LelliKelly ad' come on.

Yonididnaedaethat · 10/08/2013 20:26

My DD age 15 pointed out how it's terrible that the free plastic phone has a FB app, as the shoes are aimed at 6 yr olds lol ........ as soon as she said it I thought she'd fit in well on MNSmile

expatinscotland · 10/08/2013 20:29

My daughters loved/love it. There are worse things in the world.

Pinupgirl · 10/08/2013 20:36

I swore dd wouldn't get a pair and then dh bought her a pair for her birthday a few years ago. I was converted! They are the best kids shoes ever-last much longer than either start-rite or shitey Clarks.

Her school shoes and boots from last year are like brand new and not a scuff on them

I am happy they give away free make-up as it stops dd raiding my good make up!

DD has 2 pairs of the sparkly shoes,a pair of trainers and has just got a new pair of school shoes

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 10/08/2013 20:38

dd hates lelli kelly shoes. She has to save up to buy her lip gloss at boots.

LegoAcupuncture · 10/08/2013 20:42

I like Lelli Kelly shoes, would have loved them as a child. I only have boys, boring boy shoes sans unicorn vomit :(

StHelenInPerson · 10/08/2013 20:45

The shoes are over priced and hideous and iv never seen teeth so white and straight in a 5+yr old.

I'm dreading in a few yrs when my dd will be suckered into these must have fashion items.

LynetteScavo · 10/08/2013 20:48

LegoAcupuncture I had two boys then a girl.

The first pair of LelliKelly shoes I bought were put on a shelf in DDs bedroom so I could admire them. Blush

LegoAcupuncture · 10/08/2013 20:50
Grin

I have two neices so I splurge and buy them each a pair a year. Dn1 is 9 now though and doesn't want a pair this year.

I'm wondering if I'm too old at the age of 32 29 to get a pair?

littlemisswise · 10/08/2013 20:55

I've not seen the advert, but I don't think make-up for children is a new thing.

I would have loved Lelli-Kelly shoes when I was little and had I have had a DD would probably have bought them for her had she have wanted them.
'Tis a pair of shoes not crack cocaine.

LynetteScavo · 10/08/2013 20:58

They are not must have fashion items.

Not according to my DD anyway.

As soon as she had an opinion it was converse high tops for her.

morethanpotatoprints · 10/08/2013 20:58

Lelli kelly are favoured by the chavs round here, who spend their money in Hurley.
Most mums buy shoes from Clarks or shoe zone a few times a year.
I learnt right from the start to teach our dc to be independant and not follow the flock, and I must admit it did pay off.
You don't have to get involved with requests for silly products if you teach your dd to be original.
I think they are ok if you like that kind of thing, but their party shoes are very expensive considering you can buy party shoes for the fraction of the price in many shops.
