Mrs husbands first name, husbands second name. It's on a card that's just come through the letterbox. I didn't change my name when married and always go by Ms.

I don't normally worry too much about people sending mail assuming we share his second name. But not even my first name? Grrerreerrre.

Yes in legal documents I going back to the mid nineteenth century Scottish women are listed by both their married and unmarried names as Morag Cannon or Ball.

On our wedding certificate my mother is listed as Ann Morecombe or Wise.

My Scottish grandparents shared the same birth surname, so I wouldn't have realised this from their gravestone. Interesting stuff.

Ann Morecombe or Wise is brilliant, Compos. Grin

When we checked out of the last place we rented, I wrote to the agents saying that DH and I would vacate the property on xx date.

I got a confused call later, asking "what about the sharer?"

Me: Confused

Agent: you know, the other man who lives with you...

Me: getting weirded out....

Agent: you said it's you and your husband, right? But we also have a record of another man called DHName living there.

This girl was 25 at oldest, but it was so totally inconceivable that I had a separate name to DH that she invented a whole mother tenant to account for this bizarre anomaly....

YANBU - I haven't changed my first name, so I don't see any reason why I should be addressed by it. I have taken my DH's surname, but I kept my old surname as a middle name. A number of people have "helpfully" corrected me on application forms.
