To wonder if all 15 year old girls are like this

I have a friend and her 15yo DD staying with me, have taken the week off work to ferry them around the Isle of Wight where I live, been nice weather and we have been to loads of places as well as Ice Skating and Bowling, young miss does not seem to be very happy, spends all the time on her lap top/phone, grunts instead of talks, spends an hour in the bathroom, sulks and is picky with her food.

Her Mum says ignore her as she actually said on her FB page that she is having a nice time, my DS is only 4 so I am wondering if I have all this to come or is it only girls that a pain in the arse at that age.

Sounds like me at 15. Everything was an effort

FromageFrog · 08/08/2013 18:19

Sounds just my Step daughter at that age. Although she would spend a lot longer than half hour getting ready.

I think boys are the same with the added joy of games consoles.

lastnightidreamt · 08/08/2013 18:23

I was like that, but was always very charming with people other than my parents!

sonlypuppyfat · 08/08/2013 18:23

It seems they are all like this. My DS is 14 and has always been my best friend loads of fun and brill to be around, but this year he won't leave his room and if he does have to be out with me walks 50m in front of me, little shit

Goldmandra · 08/08/2013 18:24

They certainly can be if permitted. However, if mine was behaving like that as a guest in someone else's house she'd get a rocket up her a**e!!!!

gordyslovesheep · 08/08/2013 18:24

surely you have heard of teenagers? and no it's not just girls

Secretswitch · 08/08/2013 18:24

Sounds very much like my dd, except for the grunting bit. When we go anywhere with other people, my teens know their phones are to be off and out of site. I think it is just basic good manners. (btw, hate this rule, but know they would face mum's wrath otherwise)

Arisbottle · 08/08/2013 18:24

Sounds like my children, of both sexes.

Sounds normal to me. Everything in the entire world is boring unless they either

a) have a friend with them, or

b) have you running around a shopping centre with your credit card out.

runningonwillpower · 08/08/2013 18:27

They are not all like that but different stages have different blessings.

My daughter and her friends were total loveys in their teens. Charming, sort of, but very loud and in your face.

Just be glad she is giving you peace.

Arisbottle · 08/08/2013 18:27

You really must stop stealing my children fellatio.

PeriodMath · 08/08/2013 18:28

I actually wasn't like that. I was pretty easy-going and pleasant to be around as a teen I think. I often tell my parents they had it easy!

Now my older sisters...well, that was a different story. They definitely fitted the picture you describe. I think I had just spent so long watching them sulk as a child and it seemed so daft and futile, I went another way.

Boaby · 08/08/2013 18:29

My daughter is 15 & would never behave like this in our home let alone anyone else's. She has her moments (believe me!) but she knows to be respectful & chatty & if she knows if she is on her phone too much I'll take it off her.

softlysoftly · 08/08/2013 18:32

I wish my friends teens were like this, I certainly was!

They keep talking to me and trying to be helpful.

It's awful and means I can't be on my phone MNing Wink

StraightJacket · 08/08/2013 18:32

Sounds like my nearly 15 year old sister, although she doesn't always grunt and you do get a good laugh out of her when doing activities. But when on her iPhone/iPad, you mainly get a grunt.

At that age, I wasn't like that but I never had the luxury of a laptop or a mobile other than a brick so I was glad to be out and doing things rather than stuck indoors bored.

Onesleeptillwembley · 08/08/2013 18:35

Yes, with their parents. But she actually sounds very rude to be like this with you, and your friend should teach her manners.

TheRealFellatio · 08/08/2013 18:36

I don't need to steal yours Arisbottle I have three eternally bored and ungrateful wretches of my own. Grin

StrugglerSnuggler · 08/08/2013 18:43

young miss does not seem to be very happy

Maybe she isn't then? She might be dealing with all sorts if things that really really matter to her. Maybe she senses you find her rude and 'grumpy' and imagines everyone would like her more as a cute and biddable 4 year old.

And please don't embarrass your friend by referring to it!

Doilooklikeatourist · 08/08/2013 18:48

Sounds normal to me

inallmydays · 08/08/2013 19:01

surprised you got her out the house and off the laptop tbh sounds totally normal

cocolepew · 08/08/2013 19:06

Mine isn't. She would drive you mad talking about Once Upon A Time constantly though. You would wish she was surly and unreponsive by the second day.

Leeds2 · 08/08/2013 20:25

My 15 year old DD isn't like this. At least not when she is with me, lol. I would not tolerate rudeness.

Lackedpunchesforever · 08/08/2013 20:27

Oh god yeah. Girls are total bitches and boys are pwecious ickle puddings

Hmm
Justforlaughs · 08/08/2013 20:29

My 14 yo DD isn't like this - or not lost of the time anyway of course I have a year for that to change!, however my 15yo DS is, and my now 20 yo DS was, at this age, as well. They all go through a phase of it, but they do all come out the other side, so it's not all bad Grin
