Baby wipes

Why oh why can I never get just one put of the pack?? I always hold one and shake the damned packet whilst trying to hold dd still and prevent her from rolling/rubbing toys into pooey bum/getting feet and hands poo covered. And I don't get just one wipe which would do, I get a string of them out all stuck together and in trying to free them I need two hands and that's it. Poo smeared baby.
Am I just rubbish at this or are wipe packets just irritating?

I get a couple out before I take off the nappy. It's taken me 3DC to work it out though!

Melawen · 05/08/2013 19:57

That sounds SO very familiar!! Now I get myself ready and pull out a couple BEFORE I unwrap DD!!

Dirtymistress · 05/08/2013 19:57

Super drug and asda wipes don't do this. Unlike ludicrously overpriced huggies.

AmberLeaf · 05/08/2013 19:58

Do they not do those plastic wipe packet holders any more?

Pampers used to have them free with a pack every now and then and they lasted quite a while.

They made getting just one out much easier.

Grin That's where elbows and knees come in...I've been doing this a while Wink

I used 'cheeky wipes', can't do a link but google them. They are washable, I know sounds minging, but lots of other poo goes through washing machine! Little flannel like squares, in two boxes, fresh and mucky, the mucky box has a net inner which you just take out and pop in the washing machine, wipes and all. Saves a fortune, easier to clean bottoms and saved my hands from bad eczema which I got from baby wipes. Win win!!

Sirzy · 05/08/2013 20:04

Super drug and asda wipes don't do this Which is a shame because you need half a packet of them to clean anything!

Rowanred · 05/08/2013 20:05

That's why I like the boots own wipes- they have a proper plastic dispenser bit that snaps shut. Much better design!

Fakebook · 05/08/2013 20:06

Always remove wipes BEFORE taking nappy off. Hold both feet with one hand firmly, pushback, remove nappy and wipe away excess poo and then wipe. You have to be firm and quick. I never get why people would get poo smeared everywhere unless the poo went up the back.

PurplePidjin · 05/08/2013 20:08

Baby flannels from the pound shop soaked in camomile tea. One wipe per poo as a general rule, although teething splats sometimes need two. Stored in a resealable freezer bag.

Helps if you're also using cloth nappies though, so you can bung the whole lot in together :)

Layl77 · 05/08/2013 20:10

I got a pampers dispenser thingy free with a packet of wipes in the brilliant B&M bargain shop. £1 or £1.99 but prevents this happening. Love that crappy shop!

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/08/2013 20:11

I use fakebook's method to the letter. Never get poo anywhere unless I've missed the signs and DD has stuck her hand down and smeared it everywhere, Thanks DD.

Passmethecrisps · 05/08/2013 20:13

Oh I so know what you mean!

Particularly irritating now DD has developed a twitch like auto response of shoving both hands into her poo covered parts.

I don't have enough hands.

lillibet1 · 05/08/2013 20:59

what fakebook said and BTW we use huggies as we need one to do the job of 6 or 7 of the other types so they work out just as cheep especaly when you can get the huge box's on offer in sainsburys in the baby club weeks for the equivalent of 50p a packet

DoJo · 05/08/2013 21:17

Mine just grabs his bits, or twists around so no matter how tightly I am holding his (admnittedly enormous) feet he can smear poo into surprising places while I try to clean him up. Firmness is only possible to a certain extent as he is both strong and incredible flexible which means he often gets a hand in during wrangling too.

Splitheadgirl · 05/08/2013 21:25

The Huggies ones are really hard to get out. Has anyone also noticed how soapy the tesco ones are....the ones in the orangy packet. If you squeeze them, the soap drips out.

Passmethecrisps · 05/08/2013 21:27

We had Costco ones which were great - really big with a snap shut pack - but soapy as a soapy thing

MrsPercyPig · 05/08/2013 21:28

Because you should NOT be using them and should be using cotton wool to wipe the baby's bum like the MW told us!

Passmethecrisps · 05/08/2013 21:36

Oh blimey! I remember that. Trying to clean a meconium poo with about 3000 bits of cotton wool. I sneakily used a wipe when the MW left.

itchyandscratchy26 · 05/08/2013 21:39

ALDI wipes are brilliant, and dead cheap, as are the nappies

Emilythornesbff · 05/08/2013 21:40

Only now do I learn about reusable wipes Sad.
I like the sound of those.

ForgetfulNameChanger · 05/08/2013 21:43

Asda wipes are the worst for it! Pull one, get a huge clump! Tesco's are the best.

CelticPromise · 05/08/2013 21:48

Baby wipes are shit. Totally inadequate in the face of poo and they stink. Flannels are the way forward.

greenbananas · 05/08/2013 21:49

Asda wipes are terrible for this, but I still use them all time. I take a peek down the side of the nappy, assess how many wipes I will need and get them out in advance.
