To rant about my children's now ruined brand new clothes?

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 15:31

I know I am BU but I am so pissed off I don't care.

My parents took my children camping at their expense for two weeks. This is awesome and I am incredibly lucky to have such a close and supportive family.

As the weather was hot and they've grown since last summer, I had gave them their holiday clothes for our holiday this year.

My parents have allowed them to go a play park in their brand, spanking new white shorts. They have not soaked the resulting stains as soon as they occurred, they've been through the wash twice with surf, vanish in wash and vanish spray on stain remover, nothing has touched it, they're now soaking in the sink with half water, half vanish. They're obviously going top need replacing Angry

I know I am lucky that my kids got a free holiday and in the grand scheme of things they're only shorts, but I am so fucking annoyed that no-one thought to ask them to change into more suitable clothing for going to the park in the mud. They'd only worn the shorts once.

They're in the washer on 60deg with bleach now. The puppy is sitting on the printer Hmm Maybe two cat sized dogs won't be such fun after all.

Just assume that camping means getting dirty so old clothes from now on.

Turquoisehat · 02/08/2013 19:20

Am i the only one shaking my head here? 2 pairs of Tesco shorts ruined, but your kids had a great time playing and bonding with their grandparents for 2 weeks.

Even by my standards (and I admit to being controlling) you sound like very hard work.

But I feel like I need to ask - Is laundry your hobby?

lljkk · 02/08/2013 20:18

I think the shorts were stained & the playsuits were ruined by being washed with something that ran colours. OP probably spent around £30 on clothes that barely got worn.

That is why I scrounge kids clothes from jumble sales & charity shops.

lljkk · 02/08/2013 20:19

Xpost, I don't think 60 degrees is good idea, you'll just be baking the stains in. I would have tried napisan myself.

StayAwayFromTheEdge · 02/08/2013 20:21

Hot water and Vanish are not readily avaable on a campsite. I expected the shorts to be Boden or Joules at the very least, but this degree of anxiety over a ten pound pair of Tesco shorts is mystery to me. Buy some new ones out of the money you have saved by not feeding them for two weeks.

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 20:23

They've sold out or I would.

I didn't know about baking in stains? Sad I've just put them on another hot wash because the first one didn't work.

See this is why I hate stains, I don't know how to deal with them. What's napisan? Will it work on baked in slide mulch?

The puppy is trying to photocopy herself now. I need to clean up but she appears to be glued to my leg Grin

to be honest the amount you are spending on detergent, leccy, sweat and washing machine wear and tear, you'd be better off binning them and buying a couple pairs off ebay.

bit crazy, all this angst.

lljkk · 02/08/2013 20:46

Piratecat has a point.
You've baked the stains in by now, honestly, they're rags. Give your puppy a hug & forget all this.

Puppy's annual jabs will cost way more than value of the ruined clothes, anyway.

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 20:50

She's not my puppy yet so I'll only be paying for the nice things like fancy collars the rescue can vaccinate her Grin

I don't want any old shorts I want those shorts and they've sold out. I liked those shorts.

There must be a way to get the stains out? Or fade them enough that they're a greyish hardly noticeable color and not jet black?

OP posts:
FunLovinBunster · 02/08/2013 20:54

OP you need to get a life.
Seriously.
Certifiable over reaction.

imnotmymum · 02/08/2013 21:09

I like those shorts...seriously how do shorts differ they are eehhmm shorts...white...pink...

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 21:11

They had a pink pattern that matched the matching t-shirt.

Plain pink shorts would match I guess, but it won't be the same.

babybearsmummy · 02/08/2013 21:11

Wash them and stick them on the line in full view of the sun... The sun bleaches the stains right out!

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 21:13

We don't have a washing line and our yard hardly gets any sun.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 02/08/2013 21:17

Have one of these [buscuit]

jacks365 · 02/08/2013 21:18

Stick them on a windowsill that gets full sunlight instead then its what I do with stains in winter. However I wonder if this could be creosote from the wood in which case nothing will work sorry.

TheAccidentalExhibitionist · 02/08/2013 21:18

Bollocks, meant Biscuit Grin

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 21:21

A window might work. I will soak them overnight in vanish and then I'll leave them to dry in the window.

Would playground wood chippings have creosote on?

I'm dieting Accidental and don't much like Biscuits anyway but the puppy will have some.

White shorts for kids are always a bad idea

White shorts for a camping holiday when you aren't there to sort them out is a really really really bad idea!

Yabvu considering it was a free holiday for your kids!

wonderingsoul · 02/08/2013 21:32

I've tried really hard to muster up some sympathy for you...

Just can't do it.

Your kids had two weeks away having fun with grandparents.

You had two weeks of no real child responsibilities.

All This OVER two outfits.

Get over it and stop being so bloody spoilt.

Buy some new ones from eBay if you can't find Anakin store.. I'm sure your be able to use your holiday to get over this terrible crime.

O... and it's your fault for sending white clothes and fancy clothes to a campsite.

ScrambledSmegs · 02/08/2013 21:53

You need Biotex.

DH cycles to work. He has no mud guard. Most of his pairs of white pants have this horrific grey mud stain all over them where the dirty water has soaked through his clothes - yes, it really was general grime, nothing else! Nothing I did could get it out until I soaked them in Biotex for about 24 hours.

I swear I could see the grime coming out. It was amazing, and a little bit gross.

YABU about the white shorts/camping with GPs thing though. My DM can't tell the difference between DD1's day clothes and night clothes, to the extent that I have some wonderful photos of DD1 and her GPs at the Olympics last year, wearing her pyjamas Confused Your kids had a lovely time, you had a break. That's good enough, yes?

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/08/2013 21:55

Biotex? Will I get this in Tesco or will it need ordering from Amazon?

The kids are home, they've nicked my puppy Angry

I feel sorry for children who have to watch their clothes. Unless they are at a wedding or similar they need clothes they can roll around in, climb trees etc. For camping I would either get them really cheap or second hand and never, never white!
