Aibu to have had two user names on another site?

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 13:20

I was a member on another chat forum and after been banned a couple of times for "daring" to question moderation or heaven forbid to speak my true opinion, I decided to create two user names, one where I could chat about everyday mundane topics and not have other posters drag up all my more controversial opinions from other more heated threads. Anyway I was quiet outspoken on a thread recently and insisted that I considered parents who let their older children (who has no illness/special needs) have soothers, were guilty of lazy parenting. Not only did they ban my outspoken account but also my normal one.
To be honest the site is pretty crap but there were a few posters on there whom I liked and we had a few ongoing discussions which I miss.

Anyway Aibu to think my quiet persona should have been left alone?

with this site to register you must have a valid email address as it sends a link before registration is complete. for years people have said they have multiple (probably no more than 2) log ins for different topics and as far as I am aware it was allowed. obviously if it was to troll they should be banned but it was not a black and white rule.

usualsuspect · 01/08/2013 13:58

You would cause uproar on here with your opinions on dummies tbh.

Runningchick123 · 01/08/2013 13:58

Another forum allows an unlimited number of anon log ins which allows people to post without giving away their regular user name - just as bad as being allowed multiple logins.

fluckered · 01/08/2013 14:00

but at least here usualsuspect you can debate the topic and even if it gets heated you are not banned or the OP deletes the thread.

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 14:05

No not pretending to be two different people, I can hardly remember my own real life facts so I wouldn't be able to maintain a second makeup one.

No on my second identity I gave my true opinions, not flowered up with "sorries". I didnt give any personal info or back story, just my opinion.
I didn't feel I could give my opinions on my true user name because it would be dragged up in every thread I posted in. You know like I might be discussing my diet on a weightless thread and next thing someone would come on and drag up that I thought living in an estate wasn't something I would like to do!!

BTW my son is 4 and sleeps with a dummy.

Judge away...

musicismylife · 01/08/2013 14:10

If you have a problem with another site, take it up with them.

She can't, she banned.

AlfalfaMum · 01/08/2013 14:10

We had a big influx of banned members from rc last year I think?

I'd say yabu for having two usernames, it's underhand and can be used for all manner two-faced nastiness.

usualsuspect · 01/08/2013 14:11

So will you use different user names for different opinions on MN?

fluckered · 01/08/2013 14:12

gosh that's too much like hard work having two log ins. besides mine does it automatically in work - only site not banned thank fuck!!

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 14:15

You are not allowed to take it up with the moderators, you get no replies and it is a power trip for them which they will not get from me.
Tbh I kept meaning to leave but I had started an ongoing thread months ago re healthy lifestyle and kept going back to chat on that.
The uproar wouldn't bother me, I like a good debate. I found the resorting to name calling tedious, the art of debate was missing. Also the term judgemental was whipped on a regular basis, some posters felt that it added substance to their post.;-)

usualsuspect · 01/08/2013 14:18

Goady posters are not tolerated very well on MN either. Wink

xylem8 · 01/08/2013 14:20

She can't, she banned.
Why not just switch the router off for a few hours (which will allocate a new IP address)and then re-register with a different email?

cushtie335 · 01/08/2013 14:22

This is the accepted rule on most forums to avoid "sock puppetry". I did it myself on digital spy because I was sick of seeing the same clique getting away with some awful, inflammatory posts and others being banned for next to nothing. I was more or less "me" in one persona and the other was a bit of a troll if I'm honest. I kept it going for months until for a laugh one day I decided to get into an argument with myself. They eventually spotted it and banned both accounts, but it was worth it for the lols.

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 14:35

Yes having two user names could be hard, but I rarely used second user name, I mainly used it when my opinion was against the norm as it was easier than been followed around every thread I posted in by an aggrieved poster. This happens a lot, new posters are often accused of been a troll if they don't share the popular opinion and lord help you if someone else who agrees with you joined around the same time, you are then accused of been the same person or friends.
No I won't have two user names on here, it wasn't something I was comfortable with at all, but I felt I had to as having previous comments thrown up at me months later was irritating. I probably should have just stuck with the one and sucked it up.

OP posts:
cushtie335 · 01/08/2013 14:37

More than troll hunters is people who trawl through your posting history and use it against you, even when it's really tenuous. I have no idea how to see someone's posting history on MN, and if people name change than it must be even harder. Most of the time I don't even notice the name of the poster, it's the actual post they've made I'm interested in.

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 14:45

You do need to verify the email account and turning off the wifi not working. I know if I were bothered I could get around it but I am done.
Usual suspect, is giving a true opinion considered rowdy on here too?
I want to be clear I was not trolling by any means just sometimes giving a different opinion for example there was a thread where the op asked if it was ok to let her four year old play out on the green unwatched, another poster said no four was too young and the op was been negligent and should wait until her child was five like she did with her little one. I pointed out that five was very young too and I thought this was negligent, it went down like a tonne of bricks, lots of name calling and following around ensued, this is what I was trying to avoid with the second user name.
I am making myself laugh now, I really don't know why I didn't get out sooner. Lol

usualsuspect · 01/08/2013 14:49

No there are lots of true opinions on here.

Start a thread on lazy parents giving their older children dummies and see what happens.

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 15:00

I wouldn't have any interest in starting such a thread, the person who started it was apparently in bits because her child had managed to give it up herself at age 4. I agreed with someone else that it was well time for it to be gone, it went down hill from there.

OP posts:
fattymuatty · 01/08/2013 15:16

I think it's a bit pathetic and two faced tbh. Have the balls to say what you want yo say under your own username or don't say it all. I am a member the site you are talking about and you don't have aw hun at everyone, I certainly don't but at the same time if you want to call someone a lazy parent you can't expect that they are going to be thrilled to hear it. That's life no one wants their parenting choices judged. It is two faced though to aw hun on one thread and blast on another under another username.

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 15:27

I never ever "ah Hun" it wouldn't matter what user name I had its not me.
It's a pity that many users on that site will not allow other posters to give a different opinion, as I said they usually resort to name calling, shouting troll and dragging the argument into the next thread you post on. If certain posters on that site acted more mature then I wouldn't have felt the need to give opinions under a different name.
I would never expect another poster to be thrilled to hear something critical about themselves but I would expect them to be able to hold a proper debate, sadly this is very much lacking on rc.

FrussoHathor · 01/08/2013 15:28

caca I ran stepped away from another site because I got stamped on disagreed with by a large number of other users.
I think you have learnt the same lesson I did. Some people will agree with you and others won't. A fight will usually insue when users differ, Often with other users adding wood to the fire, and at the end of the day the OP will still do what they want and so will others sometimes it's just best to let it go and walk away.

cacamilis · 01/08/2013 15:33

You summoned it up nicely frussohator, it's a pity it took me so long to see it and that I invested so much in one thread. Oh we'll lesson learned.

OP posts:
MalcolmTuckersMum · 01/08/2013 15:35

I thought they were talking about Soothers - the cough sweet. I had no idea they were controversial.

FrussoHathor · 01/08/2013 16:35
