They're popping up already.

Instead of planning Christmas now, go out and enjoy the summer.

I need to hide the Christmas topic until December, don't I?

Clearly I do Christmas way better than some of you. My children will love me more.

Turkey and a present. Tsk.

defineme · 31/07/2013 16:58

I use all the bargains I get off that thread for birthday presents-saves me a fortune.
I love planning for stuff that's nice like holidays, but it doesn't mean I'm not having a life whilst I'm planning stuff: on the contrary-I'm doing the stuff I planned 6 months ago!
I do find it hard to get stuff for Christmas because dc change their interests, but I do pile up stuff for other people likes nieces-does it really matter what time of year I bought the board game?

wonderingsoul · 31/07/2013 16:58

sirzy im putting a deposit down next week for a week hoilday in casiter that we will go on for next summer hoildays next year.. but hey i should just save up and pay on the day... missing out on BIG discounts that out now.

defineme · 31/07/2013 17:00

I don't plan the meal-dh does that and we just have chicken as we hate turkey so it's no stress. I do like to organize tickets to skating and theatre though-they're sold out by November.

Arisbottle · 31/07/2013 17:01

I don't even pretend to do Christmas that well.

if you come to mine you will get fed and watered. if I gave birth to you there is a gift under the tree . Job done.

wonderingsoul · 31/07/2013 17:01

exactlly tewisaves-- things are generally on sale or have bigger discounts than they do at christmas.

i cant see how people cant get their heads around it.

mrsrupertpenryjones · 31/07/2013 17:01

I freakin love Christmas ...

HopeForTheBest · 31/07/2013 17:01

Isn't it sort of the equivalent of planning your summer holiday in winter?

ExcuseTypos · 31/07/2013 17:02

In my house Christmas is much more Han a Sunday roast and a few presents. It's lots of overnight visitors and everything that entails, decorating the whole of the house, lots of drink parties, village events, meals out, presents for family, friends, teachers, etc etc, special food for the whole week, drinks, etc etc. I also have my DDs birthday on the 23rd dec.

I don't start planning until November but if people want to start early- good on them for being so organised.

lunar1 · 31/07/2013 17:05

I think the op is secretly a huge Christmas fan and has her decorations up already.

I am posting on the christmas because I enjoy planning and getting a bargain, but you are the first I have seen to post outside the Christmas topic.

Arisbottle · 31/07/2013 17:07

We do most of that, but it doesn't take much planning, certainly not to start now.

Decorate the house - the children do that. decorations in the loft, give them some money to buy extras and they can raid the woods for anything else.

Drinks parties - online order - although booze is not something we lack!

Meals out - you phone and book a table.

Presents - if I have birth to you, you get one. If the children want to buy presents for teachers etc that is up to them to sort out.

Food - I do start cooking in October/ November - but I am always cooking, preserving , baking in advance anyway.

Flobbadobs · 31/07/2013 17:08

I have about half my present shopping done. Plus the gifts for the 4 birthdays we have in December. I don't actually want to think about Christmas that much in December until the day itself!
I have a great life, I just like to be organised occasionally
YABU. merry Christmas Grin

thismousebites · 31/07/2013 17:11

YANBU bah humbugConfused

wonderingsoul · 31/07/2013 17:13

flobbadobs-- i also have a birthday in nov and dec.. but even with out them id start shopping now..

i find the 2needs to get a life" really quite vile and uncalled for really. quite easly offend and insult thouse who have limted funs into making them feel worse.

Mrsrobertduvall · 31/07/2013 17:21

How many presents do you all buy? Shock
or more to the point, how many do you buy for?

I think that's why people shop so early.....I only buy for dcs and dh.
They will tell me what they want...I will buy it. Or rather dh will buy it himself as it will be something wanky for golf, and I transfer the money.

Dh and ds may be away in Oz anyway from Xmas day (fingers crossed)

Arisbottle · 31/07/2013 17:23

Five children, two presents each so ten in total.

ArghFFS · 31/07/2013 17:29

but Christmas is awesome. we should already be counting down the days

FeegleFion · 31/07/2013 17:30

Bah Humbug!

Mardy YADNBU in the slightest.

Even seeing the word brings me out in hives. Despite the fact that it would be sensible for me to start now or dare I say earlier? I just don't like Christmas.

It's money spent on often unwanted/ unappreciated gifts and mountains of food that's guaranteed to feed 500 more than the 6 or so it's intended for, stress, forced happy extended families and a massive anti-climax before the post 'festivities' deep clean commences and everything is packed or in my case stuffed any old way away and it can be forgotten about for another year...

...except 'next year' seems to be getting earlier and earlier each year.

For me, and I am fully aware I am in the minority, it's Bah bloody Humbug!

MardyBra · 31/07/2013 17:36

"Isn't it sort of the equivalent of planning your summer holiday in winter?"

I don't do that either.

OP posts:
Arisbottle · 31/07/2013 17:46

I don't either mardybra but not because of some kind of ethical or moral stance but just because we are not very organised.

StuntGirl · 31/07/2013 17:54

Soo....don't read them?

Starting the first whinging AIBU of the year on it might be considered a bit sad too....

ThreesyDoesIt · 31/07/2013 18:16

Yabu, I'm already deciding what dds are getting as I like to have all 3dds in for septmber, I worry if I leave it too late I wont get what they want, people who leave it until last minute stress me. I just can't be disorganised it's to frustrating

christmas is all about mountains of presents, good food and loved ones how cany anyone moan about that, it takes planning, doesn't mean your not enjoying the summer or life laptops can be used in the garden while catching some rays!!
