to object to dp leaving his used underwear on the floor next to the bed?

This has been a long running argument between us which really irritates me and mildly amuses him till he gets fed up with the nagging.

Every night dp removes his underpants, trousers and socks and leaves them concertina fashion on the floor by the bed. He flatly refuses to take them to the wash basket. Reasons he has given are that its his room and his clothes and that the wash basket is in another room (a room at n he same floor where he keeps his clothes).

His main and most revolting reason for this habit is that a lot of the time he wears his underpants and socks for 2 days running (even in a hot summer). Compounding this has been his no windows open rule during hay fever season.

As with other arguments we have, if I wear myself out with very persistent nagging and putting up with some very patronising and unkind responses, he will use the wash basket. If I let up and make no deal of it like I've done for a week till this morning he goes straight back to leaving underwear on the floor.

Can you please adjudicate? Thanks

It's fair enough to share out the household tasks so one person is doing all the washing - but I can't get my head round people who would leave
dirty clothes on the floor or wet towels on the floor/bed. It's surely just basic manners, hygiene and making-an-effort to hang stuff up/put it in the wash basket, isn't it? Hang up or lay out worn but clean clothes so they get an airing and don't look shit, hang up the towel so it can dry out properly.

I would be far more irritated about not opening any windows during hay fever season .... Stuff that ! I have hay fever as does ds1 , we take antihistamine and use eye drops. Now way would I not open the windows,

I wonder where in the world being in possession of a fanjo / the title Mum or wife makes it the law that we do most of the 'homemaking' surely we should be past all that 50's shit by now and sharing the duties of living in the same home with whoever we share it with.

I must be a horrible wife. If it's not in the wash basket it doesn't get washed, if it stays on the floor for more than2 days, it goes in the bin. No daily shower (or shower when he stank would mean no sex and relegation to the spare room.

I don't mind doing the housework as I work fewer hours but that degree of filth and laziness I would just find disrespectful.

Reading this, have just sent message to DP telling how much I appreciate him (because he does all laundry, ironing, tidying, works longer hours and I only really have to cook/wash up despite being mega untidy and he's totally happy- and of course I love him).

Off to buy ingredients to cook something particularly nice and maybe sweep a floor!

In good conscience I couldn't present anything that had sat in pants for TWO days as prepared ready for action.

This is why I will be teaching DD to not handle anything unless its been boiled.

I'm thinking of my DB. When he was in his early teens he would dump dirty clothes on top of clean, wait till the pile was blocking out the sunlight before putting it (clean clothes and all) into the washing basket then realise he hadn't got anything to wear so put yesterday's undies back on.
